Better than Husky's.! lyrics: Since you gone the moon, the sun, the stars in the sky know the reason why I cry Love divine once was mine; now you've gone. Since you've gone my heart, my lips, my tear-dimmed eyes, a lonely soul in me cries. I acted smart, broke your heart; now you've gone. Oh, what I'd give for the lifetime I've wasted. The love that I've tasted. I was wrong; now you're gone Oh, what I'd give for the lifetime I've wasted The love that I've tasted. I was wrong; now you've gone
During his lifetime I took Brook Benton for granted. When I read his obituary, I just shrugged and thought 'What a shame'. As I've got older I've come to realise that he was probably the greatest pop/soul/jazz singer ever! I can't get enough of Brook's singing. This is from a fan in the U.K.
@pranjot , I found it on amazon.com the music dept. It's on a double CD called "My Country/That Old Feeling. You can get a new CD for around $6.50 plus $2.98 postage. Have a nice weekend. Howie
What a fabulous discovery..Many thanks!!! I discovered Brook Benton in 1958 with "Just a matter of time." I've introduced many people to him since, though, sadly, too late to appreciate him LIVE. Saw him on BBC TV in 1963-believe it may have been Palladium. Any Karaoke songs of his music (besides Kiddio)??
"Gone" was one of the earliest hits of the Rock 'n' Roll era...it was done by Country singer Ferlin Huskey around 1956, but was a huge hit on the pop charts. Over the years, several people have recorded cover versions (B.J. Thomas, Joey Heatherton, etc.)
I've never heard this song - thanks for posting it. I've been listening to Brook's music for 29 years and can't get enough of his singing even today. Hearing a "new" tune was a delight! I saw Brook early in 1988 at a NY venue performing for a small audience - he was amazing. I met him after the show and had a nice chat. He passed two months later.
