Always cool when you got the chance to see Concorde with the blowers lit. It's a lot like watching the B-1 take off...only better looking (if that's possible).
My elderly great uncle lived under the flight path of Heathrow for years. Every time we visited them they would moan and whinge about aircraft noise non stop….except for Concorde of course where instead they would look out the window and watch in wonder.
@210482fmj Concorde was the safest plane ever made. The reason the crash happened was due to a piece falling off a different plane. It would have happened to any plane, and just unluckily happened to Concorde. They do runway checks now. Concorde was safer than any Boeing or Airbus plane, by far. 4000 people have been killed on 737s, for 32 years Concorde had 0
@Concordespeedbird YOu cannot blame a piece of metal falling off another plane entirely. THe fact this caused it to crash shows it had safety flaws. This is a little scenario they should of expected to happen at some point. IF something so simple causes a machine to crash then it cannot really be considered safe. If it was safe then it would not of happened. Regardless of the facts im still glad i didn't go on it after seeing the footage
@210482fmj Well I feel sorry for you. Anyway, they modified it afterwards, with Kevlar, so it couldn't happen again. And she is still the safest plane ever made. And the most technologically advanced. You cannot disagree with that.
@Concordespeedbird depends how you look on it i guess. After seeing it flying through the air on fire it really makes me glad i didn't go on it. Regardless of facts if it was really safe it would of been made so this could not of possibly happened. It just shows that no machine is really truly safe
@210482fmj But it was the highest class that anyone could offer, and at 60,000 feet there were wonderful views, flight times much shorter and you could see the sun rise from the west going east, because she went quicker than the earth rotates. Airforce one can not offer you any of those.
@Concordespeedbird no i was only joking man. I was meaning that commercial aircraft flights do not recieve the same level of attention as airforce one. Airforce one would likely have a team of people clearing the runway for something even as small as a tiny stone but commercial operations do not have the time for this. YOu are right tough people shold of made sure the runway was clean before it took off. it shows what happens when things are rushed
i remember being at the end of the runway at Hatton Cross tube station and all the car alarms would be set off as Concorde took off... it was amazing...
Amazing Bird, I saw....or heard her many times when I worked on the QE2 doing trans-Atlantic crossings...the two bangs and our Captain spoke to her Captain...."hello QE2 this is speedbird we are at 47 thousand feet weather perfect and mach 2+ here and you? Hurricane and 30 ft seas....
@lojasan88 That phrase you used there leaves a little nostalgic twang somewhere deep down, "Hello QE2 this is Speedbird" No-one will ever hear that on a Radio again, two great institutions that are sadly missed. We certainly knew how to do travel overseas, now we've got Ryanair and Easycruise....
Darn - I miss that old plane setting off my car alarm ;-)
She was a head-turner alright. I'll never forget the crowd leaving a rugby game at Twickenham. She was coming in to land at Heathrow and each and every man woman and child on the street just stopped turned around and watched as she flew past.
They didn't renege on anything. The agreement from day 1, was that if one stopped, they both would stop, because Aerospatiale/BAC (and later, Airbus) would no longer be obligated to supply mtx for only one carrier.
So when they French had enough, the British had no choice. That's the way it was set up, and would've worked the same in reverse. No sense trying to alter the retelling of history.
@ImmortalSynn Thats a moot point as Airbus overpriced the maintenance agreement anyway to keep concorde in the air.Safe in the knowledge that both BA and Air Frence would call it a day, even though not obligated the french wanted out that much was known for a long time.
...which was 100% within their rights to do. So again, they didn't renege on anything, which last I checked, was the point of contention in my post. Whining about how they chose to price their services, in a free market, doesn't refute that point.
@ImmortalSynn Yes i agree its wdely aknowledged however both by ex BA pilots and others in interviews i have seen that the french were rather keen to pull the plug on concorde, however yes you are correct it was within the agreement for them to do so.

Support the Save Concorde Group, on their website and on Facebook, so we can see this aircraft back in the skies.
