Ya' can;t retcon it, he's ALWAYS been a genius. Besides, in the most recent ASM, Slott writes Parker keeping up with Reed Richards. Ya' gotta be brilliant to do that.
Ok really when you think about it Marvel's events outcome usually sticks, the initiative is still going on, Cap's still dead, No more mutants still sticking, and as opposed to DC's Final Crisis at marvel Evil actually won. Osborn is running thangs, what really did FC accomplish? Nothing, even DC other titles ingored FC.
I like both companies (and hate both companies for some of the things they do) so I fail to see why people hate either one company or the other. At the end of the day what they're doing is selling comics (and merchandise and films) based mostly on decades old characters where the status quo can't really change.
Look at Spider-man and he's back to basically the same character he was in the 60's and 70's.
Cap is dead but that will change, so will the mutants thing, so will osborn in charge
Sure your right, in the end it all comes back to stat quo, but Marvel is pretty good at keeping things cohesive.
This ain't a Marvel v. DC thing for me, but I do give credit when it's due. DC all they really got is Action, Green Lantern & JSA as far as consistently good ongoings while marvel is even able to make 2nd,3rd even 4th tier characters work I mean Rocket Raccon is gangbusters in GOTG? DC can't get the basics together.
Name titles like Aquaman,Titans, flash,Blue Beetle they fail.
Thats a failure with DC editorial though and their publicists/promoters at a lot of levels.
Some of DC's best books have been allowed to die/be killed like Manhunter, Checkmate, Blue Beetle, the Chuck Dixon books. Its seems like theres a lot of political infighting in the DC "bullpen" whereas with marvel Quesada, Breevort, Alonso and the other editors aren't fighting with each other.
on the other hand Marvel is out to screw as much money out of fans with 3.99 books, endless tie-ins etc
I agree editorial at DC is FUBAR, It's not that DC can't make good solid books like you said Manhunter was phenominal, but the marketing and awareness was "Nil" to died a slow death.
One thing I've noticed at Marvel is that they have many creative summits, everyone has a voice from big names like Bendis/Loeb to mainstays like Slott/Pak etc..and it's paying off.
Does DC do that I have no idea, but they need to start taking some editorial/management ques from Marvel
Sure your fundamentally right, but Marvel is very skilled appearing to change. While DC has a rough go at making anything cohesive, it's the illusion of change.
Marvel has succesfully navigated 70 plus yrs of story while generally maintaining it's continuity only sliding the timeline when needed, no Crisis for them.
Things reset in comics, but Marvel will stick with a idea and work it for all it's worth.
The Marvel universe seems to revolve around Tom Breevort, I think if DC were to lure anyone away from Marvel the best person to take would be him.
He's got his fingers in every pie, almost all the big events of the last 5 years have had him as the comics equivalent of the "show-runner" would be in tv. he makes things run smoothly.
DC editorial dosen't know what the hell its doing half the time.
I recently took a look at Marvel's May previews, and saw the description on "Avengers: The Initiative" and it basically said that Osborn is taking the Initiative apart.
Thats Life Model Decoy. Its basically an advanced android copy of a person that Shield created. Its sort of the same as the Doombots that Doc Doom has.
I don't think Steve Rogers was cloned, if I remember right the super soldier serum attacked his blood like you said so his blood was replaced with a transfusion from the Red Skull that cured him.
Shit I feel like such a f**king fanboy, someone shoot me :P
LOL. I'm trying to remember what happened in the whole 'Operation Rebirth' story arc that Mark Waid and Ron Garney did a few years back. I do believe that the Red Skull was involved as you said. I need to go through my long boxes and find that trade.
These Avengers aren't my Avengers anyway thats for sure.
The Roger Stern/John Buscema Avengers was my Avengers, the the Busiek/Perez Avengers was my Avengers and I hope that the Avengers can go back to that tradition soon.
