@awesome220 true, I am proof of that. 25 lbs in 5 weks, practically no increse in exercise, but major decrease in portions and quality of food. if its low fat , I would enjoy as mmuch as I wanted. (no dressing on my salads tho, the cheese and turkey were yummy enough with those nice little cherry tomatoes.....drool! once you get used to good food, fat turns u off...ruke #1 was if i am craving something really bad, eat it. dont eat a damn box, but kill the craving and move on. its controlling it
@arabjin666 i find calories less important than fat content. dont eat anything with more than 5 g fat per serving, unless its meats/eggs/cheese, cuz they are good for you =). I practically lived off salads, boiled eggs/egg sandwiches, never touched carbs (pasta,taters,bread-NONO!) but No Yolks egg noodles is great if u have a hankering for pasta , quinoa or wild rice was good too....i didnt really exercise. I danced in my room a bit before bed to boost my metabolism, lost 25lbs in 5 wk
Learning to recognize when you're hungry and eating only to satisfy that hunger is the most important thing. More important than eating 'healthy', more important than limitting portion size. Ever known 'those' people who eat fast food, etc and are still lean. Well what you dont see is that when they go home and are full from their food they dont snack, dont obsess about food, etc.
@Silvertrine NO. You are dead wrong there, at least for anyone beginning. the whole POINT of limiting portion size is to reduce stomach to a reasonable size so appetite is manageable. if u eat until ur full when ur used to large servings, whats the point? your stomach is stretched and holds too much b4 u FEEL full.how many ppl stop JUST when they r full or RECOGNIZE they R full? they dont. reducing portions eventually means they feel satisfied with less. smaller portions=eat less of fave food
i agree with this man 100%! DIETS DID NOT WORK FOR ME! When people say just cut out ALL of things you enjoy and transition to the foods that are good for you even if you don't like them is a bad idea! I should know, it did it and all it did was cause me to crave and binge, fall off the wagon! But if you eat healthy and have small portions to the food you enjoy then it's MUCH MUCH easier to get the weight off and keep it off! Some will disagree but it's the only thing that worked for me.
@bethal1998 eating the same food if its not quality food means you may be getting smaller, but you wont be much healthier for it. take skinny junk food fiends for instance. sure they are thin, but they can have a stroke as much as anyone. if u crave something , eat it, just dont eat the whole damn thing. control yourself. YOU are boss of yourself, dont blame cravings when you have a good head on u that knows better. healthy and skinny are not synonymous
@bethal1998 , you would be sooo happily surprised at what replacing your dinner with a huge salad a few times a week will do for u :). please trust me on this, it works wonders. put meat and cheese and a touch of dressing, toss it well so u dont need a lot of dressing but taste it with every bite....its amazing what just a little corner cutting will do :). i lost so much weight so fast i almost saw a doctor to make sure it was ok....nearly a lb a day....insane!!! :) good luck :)
Portion control is hard - period! Not everyone can stop after eating just one potato chip. Basically, it's supposedly okay to eat anything you want as long as it's within portion. Unfortunately when the food is too tasty, it's just not possible. Very hard to do, even harder sometimes to understand how to do it.
chinagrrl, that is so true. I am having to struggle with that now. Plus additives in fast foods (like msg and others) truly do get people addicted so it IS hard to control portions!
@chinagrrl well, it helps to chug a bottle of water to fill u up physically before you indulge in a treat. and the trick is to NOT bring the box with you. put a bit of treat in a small bowl and put the box/bag awayyyyy. u are your master. of course its possible. i dont believe that for a second. its a bad excuse. when you want to binge, get naked, stand there in front of a full length mirror and eat your snack...tell me how u feel ? it will change the way u percieve ur snacks. is it worth it?
@killerkitty777 Hmmmm........! Eating potato chips naked! Sounds like a real comfortable weekend afternoon! LOL! Seriously, what you wrote make sense. It really all depends on will power after all.
I do think that regardless of portions, there are foods that humans should never eat. The quarter-pounder is a straw man argument. He acts as if his nutritionist friends are looking over his shoulder when he eats a cheeseburger. Most nutritionists are not saying never to eat cheeseburgers. However, twinkies and Pan pizzas really should never be eaten by humans. If u exercise and eat real food, you can eat large portions. Most people just don't understand how far from real food their diet is.
You are so right. I am sure that it is these chemicals and the packaged garbage that have gone a long way in giving people diseases as well as making them addicted and fat!
@Robfenix ya, my diet consisted of gorging myself on salads, but good ones with cheese and turkey shredded on with boiled egg...a big stainless steel bowl full for dinner. I cut my portions in half and never ate anything with more than 5 g of fat per serving in it (like no granola bars..ever see the fat in those!!? wow!). i dont count calories. I drank more tea juice and water and no word of a lie, I lost 5 lbs PER WEEK. in 5 weeks I lost 25 lbs.exercise was dancing or running to bus stops lol
I think his point was contradictory. First he said it's all about portions. To prove this he said eating a cheeseburger or three chicken strips was ok, but then he said that loading it with cheese and bacon doubled the calories and was dangerous. The fact that he gave particularly high-fat foods (cheese and bacon) shows it isn't just about portions.
@Robfenix You don't understand portion control. Taking a cheeseburger and then adding bacon, additional cheese, extra sauce, etc. is effectively increasing your portion size correct? If you order a chicken strip combo...which is about 600-700 cals with the drink and then supersize it getting a larger side of fries and drink and boosting your intake to 1000 cals in one sitting, isn't that increasing your portion size.
Cheeseburgers have a lot of shit in them and they're obivously not healthy, we agree, but saying their nutritional value is low, is just untrue. They have a lot of calories and quite a bit of proteïn, which IS nutritional value. It's still better than eating nothing.
I know what you mean. A good friend of mine who is into bodybuilding said: "Actually a cheeseburger would be a well rounded meal if it were made from whole foods, and with a whole wheat bun instead of bleached white buns." I agree. If the meat were organic and healthy, the lettuce, tomato and onion and a piece of organic cheese would be a healthy meal with a lot of nutritional value.
there is very little nutritional value in cheeseburgers and fried chicken strips but there is a lot of trans fats, saturated fats and preservitives that will make you depressed and fat... best advice is cook healthy food at home.
@ThinkingLeft Its all about the calories when losing weight. It doesn't matter if you're eating healthy or not. You could be eating a bunch of healthy food and if you're not burning up all those unused calories those calories will get stored as fat. I think the key is to eat mostly healthy but also treat yourself with the foods you like as well but just keep the portions under control. 500 calories from healthy food and 500 calories from unhealthy food is still 500 calories.
Hello have you studied the Acuspeed 24 Diet (search on google)? I hear some extraordinary talk about it and my friend shed tons of pounds using it.

is it possible to lose weight without exercising? I have been cutting my calories down to 1800 per day and eat 3 meals. I weight 225 pounds.

@arabjin666 absolutely. in fact, change in diet is more effective than exercise when it comes to losing weight
