I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
Its not mechanical, on these engines the mech tach is connected to the back of the cam shaft through the rocker cover at the back, there was no cable mod plate there, it is a very rare modification!
He has an earthing problem, which is causing the eratic tacho movement!
love the way morons that clearly have no idea at all, give you a thumbs down! lol what i said is 100% correct! I only own a 71 s30z, a 68 510sss and a 73 610sss, have been modifying & racing them for about 15yrs now, so yeah i dont know what im talking about do i! {roll eyes}
The clicking is the valve lifters. Nissan L28 and VG30E engines start to make that clicking as the lifters start to wear out. The fix is to rebuild engine.
The ticking (its hard to tell from a youtube vid) in this style of engine, is often the sound of the intake valves seating, amplified by the open trumpets on the Carbs (easier to notice this in person)! Otherwise it is also commonly the lash adjustment being out (too loose), which is very easy to fix (takes me about half hour to adjust)! In a HiPo L this adjustment should be done every 1-5 thousand Km's!
His engine sounds healthy, carbs are well balanced too!
