Spoken like someone who knows nothing about baseball and it's history. Ask someone who sits in the "limited view" seats how nice it is. Also, it does look nice on TV, especially half full because of the prices.
@Yoseman1 spoken like an idot. I've been to both stadiums multiple times and this one is beautiful. There is plenty to do so u don't have to sit in limited view, or better yet don't buy those tickets.
Yes, because when I go to a ballgame, I really want "other things to do." And I'm the idiot?? You just can't replace Yankee Stadium. It's the one thing that separated the Yankees from being just any other team. Now, they have a new Ballpark which isn't even the nicest in NYC (Citi Field is nicer) let alone the AL East (Camden Yards is nicer, and Fenway is the historic gem). You liking it makes you not only a moron who knows nothing of tradition, but a corporate lackey as well.
The real Yankee Stadium you speak of hasnt existed since the 70s. Fenway always was and will be the historic gem, camden is beautiful no doubt and city field is in my opiniion not as nice as the new yankee stadium, especially when ur actually in the seats is watching the game. but its irrelevant. N yes part of going 2 a game is makin it an event. Its going 2 eat dinner, visiting gift shops and seeing history, seeing monument park: all things that could have been accomplished in the old stadium 2
Yes, the Stadium was renovated in the 70's. That said, the original outfield wall, the clubhouse, the frame, the ramps that got you from the bottom to the top, all the way down to the courthouse in the backdrop that you could see when Gerhig gave his famous speech, was all still there. Fact is, this new corporate Stadium was built for you, the guy who is casual about the game, talks on the phone for most of it, and leaves in the seventh inning, and it sucks.
@Yoseman1 your opinion becomes moot when it gets clear you dont know a single thing about me. when i was a boy my dad who in turn was a die hard yankee fan his whole life, experiencing every minute of the bronx zoo and the hell that was the 80s and early 90s would be the one who wanted to leave and i made him stay.u pretend that movin a stadium 2 the other side of 161st and river tarnishes the history of the team.there is a difference between moving a block and moving to LA or san fran. a big 1
Not really. This was YANKEE STADIUM, not Ebbets Field. This was not just a shrine of baseball, it held historic fights, 3 popes, historic football games, concerts, and more. The Yankees made money hand over fist, and this new stadium, with it's $1,250 field level seats, $11 beers, and $45 hats is nothing more than greed. I am no sucker, so I won't be part of it...
@Yoseman1 and the new stadium will continue those traditions. it has already hosted football games (one of which i been to), boxing matches, huge concerts and the rest will come in time. if anything, the new stadium revitalized yankee stadium as a great center for events like it was b4. if the old stadium was till around im sure those prices would be up around where it is now anyway, maybe evn more so cause there would be less luxury seating n if u think prices r steep there go 2 a knick game
ima giants fan, and i love brian wilson and his beard. but hands down, Mariano Rivera is the best closer EVER! someday wilson will be a close #2, but he will never be #1, because thats Mo's spot....forever
Just love how the infield all stars give MO respect as he sprints to the mound. Then see Kinsler and Young just stand behind him as he warms up and watch knowing he is the greatest closer in baseball. Wonder what were they were talking about at that moment...
i don't like the yankees, i've watched mariano tool on the mariners way too often, but that's pretty awesome. to have your awesome entry and having thwe crowd chant your name as you warm up in the all star game. He's more than earned the respect
I remember how incredible it was witnessing that especially after all us Yankee Fans showereed Papelbitch with boos and then getting even more pissed watching K-Rod come in (I still like Frankie). But the entire Stadium felt like it was going to collapse, everyone was singing Enter Sandman and watching Mo trot in was like watching The Undertaker make his entrance from in the 90's. Mariano = Legend
Rivera is so graceful. He jogs out there and feels no pressure. He makes three outs and doesn't jump on the ground like papelbon. He gets the save and is happy. If he gives up a HR he immediately will say the hitter played him out and he doesn't take away the hitters accomplishments.
He didn't hand it to Papelbon because he knew that it was their last year in their home. Finally some actually shows some compassion for this great Franchise
@gigeorge16 The Yankees bought the World Championship? That's funny, not to mention a typical Yankee haters excuse. Let's see Rivera Posada Cano Pettite Cabrera Gardner Jeter Joba Hughes All played in the 2009 World Series and all came from the Yankees farm system I don't see how you say they bought it?
Easy answer to an easy question. LAST year you didn't have a quality starting pitcher. In the off season you went out and bought two. You could have used a strong defensive replacement and a lil more power at the top of the lineup. You went out and bought that too. You can't say money had nothing to do with it because it did whether your willing to admit it or not
First of all, I don't own the Yankees! I didn't spend cent #1.
2 - No quality starters last year? lol! Remember Mike Mussina? The only 20 game winner last year? Yeah, thought so.
Thirdly, I never said money had nothing to do with it! Of course money had something to do with it! That's the name of the game! Owners are supposed to spend on their team. Why get mad at the Yankees for doing that while other owners do not?
4th - the players I listed proves this championship wasn't bought.
Thank you!! Why? Because you make sense. I love how all these other teams and their fans bitch about Yankee spending. Well guess what that's what all businesses do.. Maybe if other teams actually spent their MONEY wisely they might make it into the playoffs.
dont get me wrong, i respect the accomplishments of the yankees... and i dont blame them for spending the money... hey they have it... but you have to realize the other teams plight. ok take the tampa bay rays for example...they are in the same division as the yankess AND the red sox... during a 20 year span, how many of those years do u think they could possibly make the playoffs?
Posada was gone for half the year, half the pitching staff was injured too, and they still managed to win 89 games last year. In reality, there was no huge boost from the pitching staff additions in the regular season. I will agree that having Sabathia is a big reason why they did so well in the playoffs.
true... but... without texeira, a-rod, sabathia, and burnette (all of which have contracts that i dont even need to mention) the yanks would not have made it to the postseason... sorry but it is the truth
"and without matsui, they may not have won the world series "
What exactly is your point? Matsui was a part of the team, and even so, how about the other 3 games that they won to put them into position to win the Series? It's not like Matsui was their only contributor.
Is your point that the Yankees have Free Agents? Well, then how about we detract the contributions of Red Sox Free Agents, how many World Series titles would they have?
@AnxietyDilemma Just because it is a part of the game, doesn't make it right. Child prostitution is part of everyday life in the Philipines.... that doesn't make it right... It is not fair to the small market teams in the AL East...
@GunUDwnAt2nd Actually look at the facts. Seriously the Yankees signing free agents is in our nature and it is in our rights. It's not like the free agency was made just for the Yankees, every other team has the same opportunity as us to buy free agents, however the choose not to. It doesn't make them bad and it doesn't make the Yanks bad. Comparing the Yankees/Red Sox singing of free agents to child prositution in the Philipines is really sick and retarded. It makes no sense what so ever
@Issack18 ok in hindsight, maybe that wasnt such a good example... there was a documentary about child prostitution and labor in the phillipines on tv when i typed that comment. but i think you should look at the facts... other teams do not have a fraction of the money that the Yankees have. the yankees have enough money to sign EVERY superstar in baseball, and STILL keep a-roid, jeter, and tex...
@AnxietyDilemma Which is exactly right and reopens the fact that the free agency is available to every team its not just limited to just the Yankees and Red Sox. Every team can use the market however they choose not to and thats ok. However once they home grow a player and his contract ends and they don't believe in free agency then that opens the door for the Yankees/Red Sox/ everyone else to capitalize and grab the next big thing in the MLB.
Whenever you hear the opening chords of 'Enter Sandman', you know the other team is shitting their pants, thinking, 'Oh crap, we're screwed, aren't we?'
I love Mariano's quiet confidence and cool demeanor. Combined with his assassin-like pitching skills ... the man is simply badass. I mean wow. Simply amazing, and such a classy guy.
i saw him,he came into where i used to work at starbucks white plains NY. Its funny i had as my under shirt a navy blue Mariano Rivera tee shirt with the number 42.he was very annoyed everybody was asking him for an aoutograph and yelling his name.i tried to give him free drinks he said " dont do that ill pay" when i gave him his change back i just looked at him and i said good luck with your shoulder may god bless you.he said gracias.iam a die hard yankee fan n hes my fav player.always has been
He didn't attempt to cheat at all you idiot. Learn to get your facts straight before you mouth off to the world.
By the way, 2008 was not "destiny" for the Phillies; it was the result of poor weather and a push into game seven...hardly destiny at all, more like luck. And, as a second note, the last time I checked, the word "dynasty" meant a family or group that maintains power for several generations- hardly the Phillies by any stretch.
@gigeorge16 HAHAHAAHHAHAHA How's 27 taste? How's Brad Lidge holding up? Boy, bet you wish you had the Sandman on YOUR team! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA
$3,586,000,000 thats billion with a b i know you have difficulty understanding big numbers but you guys bought the world championship for $3,586,000,000 congrats the most immoral pathetic team to play the game then new york yankme's congrats cunt
@gigeorge16 A sore, bitter loser is STILL A LOSER! HAHAHAHAHA!!! You know you guys could have won this series if you had Mo pitching for you instead of Lidge on a ledge! hahah your bitter tears taste so sweet!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
hes a closer mo is amazing so is lidge but in all honestly neither of them made that much of a diffrence in the series and you completely doged the fack the you guys spent $3,586,000,000 you obviously have very little knowledge of this game and just ride mo's dick but $3,586,000,000 and atleast 2 people on your team that are known to have used roids congrats
LOL Ryan Howard is an OBVIOUS roid user and Cole Hamels SUCKED this year off the juice. Keep deluding yourself. Everyone juiced. And neither of the closers made a difference? Pretty sure it was Lidge that the Yanks slapped around for 3 runs in a tied game. Pretty sure it was Mo that your vaunted Phillies offense couldn't score a single run off of in 3 games. Case in point, if WE had Lidge and YOU had Mo, the Phils would be the champs! LOLUMAD, you bitter, pathetic loser! HAHAHAHAH!
lols im done with you the fact that you pointed out zero facts and your the only one in america that thinks howard is on roids leads me to believe your a 14 year old yankee cock rider and know matter how right i am and how wrong you are your gonna reply with things like "LOLUMAD" your not worth the 60 seconds it took to type this comment dumb fuck
Was Howard on the list??? Arod and Clemens were.....Andy admitted he used HGH! Lidge gave up 3-runs in ONE appearance so I don't see how he cost us the series! And yes Rivera is the best that ever was!
HAMELS on juice..................that skinny fuck must be buying the fake shit from Mexico! Roger in Boston and then a Yankee.....BIG difference! Cole in 2008 to 2009.....NO difference!
I don't get you.. Seriously you are entitled to your views, first amendment right and all that. But that last line was uncalled for and shows that you have the maturity of a 13 yr old.
You call the Yankees immoral?? Why? Because they go out and spend money?? Bring big names to the Bronx to put on the interlocking NY, the most revered uniform in sports history? Well newsflash for ppl like you, Baseball is a business. The Yankees realize that? Do you?
If you actually read the news , you would know that MLB said there was no spit that landed on the ball, it was just the angle...stop tryin to make excuses for him cheating to become the greatest closer of all time
I'm a Yankee fan, die hard at that matter, and yes the fans are better and fuck Boston, but for the new stadiums Citi field and Yankee Stadium both have great exteriors and fields, but Citi Field has a better interior, Yankee stadium in some places already has cracks, it was dissapointing...
he totally fucked it up...saying he wanted mo to start, then brings in papelfag for the 8th and he almost loses it...and k rod gets one out in the 9th THEN he goes to Mo??! its amazing he won one world series let alone two, if he can't even handle an all star line up of talent...jesus
Yeah, you're right. I guess I should now root for the team with an untalented roster, who are overpaid, overrated and take illegal drugs so they can actually win.
who exactly is the starter on the yankees who isnt talented. they are a group filled with talent and nobody has taken illegal drugs as a yankee besides pettite. get an education. overpaid i cant argue with, but all athletes are overpaid
hey what the hell just cause we dont spend a 1/4 of a billion dollars on player who blow cock doesnt mean you have to bitch at sox fans. how bout you beat us in a game then talk.
You'll notice Francona is embarrassed, having to call Mariano (greatest closer ever) since he is the closer for the Red Sox's rival team, the Yankees, and also because his own closer blew it (Sorry I dont know his name..Papel something? :D)
After all the trash talking by faggot-ass Papelblown, he shits his pants and blows it on the mound in front of god and EVERYONE, then Mo Rivera comes out and shows crapelbum's inbred, hick-ass how it's done! Beautiful.
I'm no Jets fan (Raiders, shoot me now) but with GB in the opposite conference and the teams only playing once every 3 or 4 years why would a Jets fan care that much about Favre?
and props to terry francona. that was very classy and totally justified of him to bring in the best relief pitcher of all time in the 9th inning in his own park. i really respect that
Trevor Hoffman is the most overrated piece of shit. Scott Brosius home run is STILL going 10 years later!
PS: Does San Diego even have any fans? Last I checked they rarely sold out, and same with the Chargers! I imagine when my Jets play there Week 3 it will be all Jets fans!
Mariano deserved this moment in the all star game in yankee stadium. Im a yankees fan but that was nice of francona for putting Mariano in when he did. He is the best closer in the history of baseball.
I think you need to know it was a Yankee who saved baseball. Your ignorance and arrogance pretty much says what kind of baseball fan you are. Remember 1998?
Yankee Stadium is the most historic sports stadium in the world. When something like that closes it deserves it due and in this the all star game. Also the Yankees, like them or not, are the most successful and historic franchises in the world, IMO. Im not saying the Yankees are the best at all but but this stadium closing represents a new chapter in their history which is the best in baseball. The yankees arent great i know but their history does deserve something.
yankees fans arent loyal at all. if they lose one game, theres panic in the streets. lose 3 or more in a row and they want their mananger dead or out. derek jeter gets hurt and its the end of the world. miss the playoffs and the whole damn city shuts down
ok guess what im not that old so ive only been a yankee fan since about 2000 or so. incase you dont know that means i havent been a fan of them through too many bright moments and guess what ive never paniced in the streets wanted a manager dead or any of that shit, yankee fans are some of the greatest in the world its the new york media that says all that candy ass bullshit so guess what i am a loyal yankee fan they can lose no gmaes the rest of the season and ill still be loyal
greatest entrance in baseball and the greatest closer in baseball is amazing, especially 2008 all star game in Yankee Stadium

GunUDwnAt2nd 1 year ago
@GunUDwnAt2nd that is the reason for most of the yanks championships...
GunUDwnAt2nd 1 year ago
@AnxietyDilemma Which is exactly right and reopens the fact that the free agency is available to every team its not just limited to just the Yankees and Red Sox. Every team can use the market however they choose not to and thats ok. However once they home grow a player and his contract ends and they don't believe in free agency then that opens the door for the Yankees/Red Sox/ everyone else to capitalize and grab the next big thing in the MLB.
Issack18 1 year ago
Whenever you hear the opening chords of 'Enter Sandman', you know the other team is shitting their pants, thinking, 'Oh crap, we're screwed, aren't we?'

I love Mariano's quiet confidence and cool demeanor. Combined with his assassin-like pitching skills ... the man is simply badass. I mean wow. Simply amazing, and such a classy guy.
GO MO~! Don't ever retire ;)

gigeorge16 2 years ago
He didn't attempt to cheat at all you idiot. Learn to get your facts straight before you mouth off to the world.
By the way, 2008 was not "destiny" for the Phillies; it was the result of poor weather and a push into game seven...hardly destiny at all, more like luck. And, as a second note, the last time I checked, the word "dynasty" meant a family or group that maintains power for several generations- hardly the Phillies by any stretch.

@gigeorge16 A sore, bitter loser is STILL A LOSER! HAHAHAHAHA!!! You know you guys could have won this series if you had Mo pitching for you instead of Lidge on a ledge! hahah your bitter tears taste so sweet!
Galactic123 2 years ago 2
This comment has received too many negative votes show
hes a closer mo is amazing so is lidge but in all honestly neither of them made that much of a diffrence in the series and you completely doged the fack the you guys spent $3,586,000,000 you obviously have very little knowledge of this game and just ride mo's dick but $3,586,000,000 and atleast 2 people on your team that are known to have used roids congrats
gigeorge16 2 years ago
LOL Ryan Howard is an OBVIOUS roid user and Cole Hamels SUCKED this year off the juice. Keep deluding yourself. Everyone juiced. And neither of the closers made a difference? Pretty sure it was Lidge that the Yanks slapped around for 3 runs in a tied game. Pretty sure it was Mo that your vaunted Phillies offense couldn't score a single run off of in 3 games. Case in point, if WE had Lidge and YOU had Mo, the Phils would be the champs! LOLUMAD, you bitter, pathetic loser! HAHAHAHAH!
Galactic123 2 years ago 2
lols im done with you the fact that you pointed out zero facts and your the only one in america that thinks howard is on roids leads me to believe your a 14 year old yankee cock rider and know matter how right i am and how wrong you are your gonna reply with things like "LOLUMAD" your not worth the 60 seconds it took to type this comment dumb fuck
gigeorge16 2 years ago
dude, just admit that you got owned. Comparing Lidge to Mo is like saying reagan loved black people.
ChallengeVHS 2 years ago 2
Was Howard on the list??? Arod and Clemens were.....Andy admitted he used HGH! Lidge gave up 3-runs in ONE appearance so I don't see how he cost us the series! And yes Rivera is the best that ever was!
ozzy1351 2 years ago
HAMELS on juice..................that skinny fuck must be buying the fake shit from Mexico! Roger in Boston and then a Yankee.....BIG difference! Cole in 2008 to 2009.....NO difference!
ozzy1351 2 years ago
I don't get you.. Seriously you are entitled to your views, first amendment right and all that. But that last line was uncalled for and shows that you have the maturity of a 13 yr old.
You call the Yankees immoral?? Why? Because they go out and spend money?? Bring big names to the Bronx to put on the interlocking NY, the most revered uniform in sports history? Well newsflash for ppl like you, Baseball is a business. The Yankees realize that? Do you?

who exactly is the starter on the yankees who isnt talented. they are a group filled with talent and nobody has taken illegal drugs as a yankee besides pettite. get an education. overpaid i cant argue with, but all athletes are overpaid

You'll notice Francona is embarrassed, having to call Mariano (greatest closer ever) since he is the closer for the Red Sox's rival team, the Yankees, and also because his own closer blew it (Sorry I dont know his name..Papel something? :D)
5StarGeneralXenoCO 3 years ago 2
his name is Papelbon. and let's not forget the fact he almost blew the game.and all of his 'foot in mouth' disease before the all star game.

1998 Yankees are the greatest team ever...
Trevor Hoffman is the most overrated piece of shit. Scott Brosius home run is STILL going 10 years later!
PS: Does San Diego even have any fans? Last I checked they rarely sold out, and same with the Chargers! I imagine when my Jets play there Week 3 it will be all Jets fans!

tom300000 3 years ago 2
Yeah, he knew Mariano deserved the moment more :)
5StarGeneralXenoCO 3 years ago 3
I think you need to know it was a Yankee who saved baseball. Your ignorance and arrogance pretty much says what kind of baseball fan you are. Remember 1998?
fenny23 3 years ago 2
Yankee Stadium is the most historic sports stadium in the world. When something like that closes it deserves it due and in this the all star game. Also the Yankees, like them or not, are the most successful and historic franchises in the world, IMO. Im not saying the Yankees are the best at all but but this stadium closing represents a new chapter in their history which is the best in baseball. The yankees arent great i know but their history does deserve something.
-A very loyal Yankees fan
Azzurri1012 3 years ago 2
yankees fans arent loyal at all. if they lose one game, theres panic in the streets. lose 3 or more in a row and they want their mananger dead or out. derek jeter gets hurt and its the end of the world. miss the playoffs and the whole damn city shuts down
mlbplayer619 3 years ago
ok guess what im not that old so ive only been a yankee fan since about 2000 or so. incase you dont know that means i havent been a fan of them through too many bright moments and guess what ive never paniced in the streets wanted a manager dead or any of that shit, yankee fans are some of the greatest in the world its the new york media that says all that candy ass bullshit so guess what i am a loyal yankee fan they can lose no gmaes the rest of the season and ill still be loyal
