in response to your point; much of the profit generated doesn't actually affect the UK economy. Private equity does not look to productive investment such as fixed capital investment, but rather to the acquisition of shares/creation of institutional investors. As a result, money goes round and round, not affecting the UK economy. The problem lies, of course, with highly leveraged companies who will coincidentally look to stay liquid, rather than invest, so that debt can be serviced.
