  • this guy makes me hate the classical guitar

  • ouch

  • Awful.

  • 0 / 10

  • Eliot likes to play on the edge his abilities. His technique is impecable but at these speeds it hit and miss which makes his play contraversial at times. Last time I saw him play it was awesome. Was able to attend the master class with my son and his knowledge of the music was impressive.

  • If you think this is fast, you should see Gabila Vale doing Caprice no. 24

  • @baelzinga fast doesn't always mean better. this is the speed when played on the Violin and is true to the composition.

  • @ShawnTebaldi Sorry I wrote the name wrong Galina Vale

  • this sounds awful...

  • He might as well have picked an electric guitar , this sounds way too rushed amazing playing though could be cleaner and smoother, sounds like the guitar is stuttering

  • bill gates plays guitar?

  • the only thing I can say for him defense is that maybe he was very nervous and because this piece is very difficult It messed up his playing completely, it can happen

  • he´s fast but he needs to be more clean on his notes ^^

  • Stop hating! You guys couldn't have done a better job if you tried. Maybe he ruined the musicality but his skill is certainly admirable...

  • eww

  • Un massacra pezzi.

  • Um, ew. D: Poor Paginini...

  • this video shows us that paganini's caprice 24 is composed for violin and should be played with a violin...

  • The problem with Fisk is that he doesn't care what his music sounds like. This is a disgrace to Paganini and classical guitar.

  • Absolutely dreadful!

  • I didn't know Andy Dick played classical guitar.

  • @nterry78 hahaha

  • Electric guitar would be fitting for Fisk. He could sound as sterile and lifeless as Yngwie Malmsteen.

  • el es increiblemente loco jajajajaja todo un irtuoso!!

  • CHE TROIAIO!!!

    si capisce niente.

  • Fisk likes to take his abilities to the edge when he plays. I watched my son take a master class from him. He knows his stuff.

  • Li Jie and John WIlliams version are much better. I know he has tried to keep the originality of the peice, but it just sounds like utter crap. Never subsitute speed for quality.

  • Eliot "Fist" Fisk

  • Good god his tone is terrible.

  • What i hear is not my favorite version, but i sometimes think people fail to remember the person playing is just another human being, who might not have good days for doing certain things. None of us is at their 100% every day.

  • @KillBloodRaven Who would want to play 100% retarded on any day?

  • @Knocktua why retarded? If you ask me, the guy got nervous cause he had that string out of tune and fucked it all up. He's far from being someone I admire, but I don't consider that retarded.

  • sujo assim até eu!

  • esse é o melhor !!!

  • Sick, Fisk plays this piece aggressively. Li Jie sounds nice and melodic and clean, Fisk is on the edge of his chair pushing the limits of the guitar.. I wanna play like Fisk.

  • he fucked up in a few places but he did it well , good upload

  • If I were Eliot Fisk, I would have "Yngwie Malmsteen is a pussy" tattooed on me somewhere.

  • @JaredTLord You don´t need to have such a tattoo to know that Malsteem is a pussy

  • Please link your performance of the 24th Caprice. Oh you don't have one?

  • Jeez, my guitar teacher and the guys at the classical guitar store talk about Eliot Fisk like he's some kind of god that they would orally pleasure if given the opportunity. This is him?! I can't believe they speak so highly of him.

  • sucks.

  • @wheezdajuice I myself dont like it and am not a hater. I just tell things as they are seen.

He doesnt play this good. He missed tons of notes and has to slow down a bit.

Type Li Jie in the search bar and watch her rendition of this piece. After listening to hers and then this, this one sounds simply bad.

  • I don't get you people, you seem to ignore the fact that about 40% of the notes are missing. Sure mistakes every now and then are fine, but 40% is crazy - he'd borderline pass an undergraduate degree in my opinion. If he's lucky.

  • @RandomMocker Couldn't agree with you more.

  • @RandomMocker Exactly my thoughts... People just dont seem to have a musical ear or they are really stupid...

  • @wheezdajuice

Check out Michael Rabin's 24 Caprices.

  • He's a beast! lol...did this guy just eat Li Jie's lunch? nice to see a guitarist attack this piece like a violinist..

  • What you got on that Van Halen? :P

  • @LilDrummerBoy74 hahahaha i am a die-hard eddie van halen fan but you are spot on there...

  • @brohanskiguitar Lol. Van Halen is really good as well. They are just better in their respective fields.

  • haha if you dont like it then do better yourself :)

  • @wheezdajuice indeed.. after long time searching youtube.. everyone else

just do a slow melodical easy version that doesn't look anything similar to how

is being played the original by masters in violin.

  • Why does he get cracked on so much? He does a his interpretation, and way faster than anyone else.

  • OMG he's so fast!!! (this is me ignoring sloppy shit pointless playing)

  • hes really good but he faces are retarded as hell haha

  • as for the 24th, i saw a girl perform it "perfectly" like williams at a masterclass but once eliot started to go into the history and interpretation i was blown away, especially the focus on the rhythmic importance of each variation. i didnt like his version as much because i didnt understand it, now i do and its my favorite. i dont care if anyone likes him or not but i would just like them to meet him and hear him in person instead of making judgements based on youtube videos

  • i shouldn't be arguing on youtube but its upsetting to see so much ignorant negativity in these comments. i saw eliot play this and the 20th caprice live a month ago. for all those who criticize his tone, you should've been there, it was soft, round, dark, and warm

  • alright why i don't see more guitarist on youtube

trying to play this ? :D

  • @Vann7 because they can't ,so they come here to sulk in envy. You don't hear me talking any shit. This is perfection in my eyes.

  • elliot fisk is the shisk

  • why he seems to change the tension of the strings? is that the way the music had to be play ? O_o

  • @Vann7 he is tuning

  • I would have loved to have heard him learning this; he gets to about 2 mins in, and then it collapses ... all the way back to the start, then repeat.

  • 1000 one to like the video (;

  • why 508 people dont like this video ??

  • @TheExplosive199 Because it deserves it.

  • Comment removed

  • I heard this on NPR the other day and Laughed at how ridiculous this is! I love his interpretation of Sevilla! This one came off as sloppy to me at first.... which you never hear from classical masters. Upon listening to it again though.... it's starting to grow on me. This is really amazing

  • I listened to him live playing this caprice at a concert. I nearly fell off my seat halfway through. I would not have believed that it can be played with a guitar if I had not seen it with my own eyes. It is an impossibility. Bravvo bravvo

  • ÖöÖöö

  • HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!!? 981 LIKES AND 507 DISLIKES!!!??!?!? THIS PROVES HOW FUCKED UP THE WORLD IS... -_-

  • Eliot is definitely a master of his instrument. To all the naysayers; do I detect a little jealousy? Flawless!!

  • its steven hawkins playing the guitar lol he is good though

  • If he'd slow down a bit, he might be able to play the thing

  • My God he is amazing!!!!

  • A lot of sight reading to play crap!

  • He is the antimusician. The traitor!

Look at video Dimitris Kotronakis, guitar

  • take it ieasy man, its not a fight its a piece to play..

  • Love it or hate it, he's crazy fast.

  • @sammyers81 hate it. yes.

  • just bad people must have been pissed

  • horrible listen the version of su meng or john williams but not this shi

    t

  • Fisk is like a "Long Drive Champion" in golf: The lemmings love that 390 yard drive, but he can't putt and has no zero imagination around the green.

  • I understand this is an almost impoosible piece to play, however am I the only person who thinks alot of this dosen't sound very good?

  • 0:24 - 0:31 xD LOL

  • if it is impossible don't play it. It sounds terrible. Start with yankee doodle then maybe twinkle twinkle little star.

  • @bin224 your a retard......if everyone had an opinion like you...the world would suck ass.....

  • There is really no doubt that Mr. Fisk plays at an EXTREMELY high technical level. You just cannot deny the chops that it takes to get through something like this. He is a master of the instrument. That said, his interpretation is horrifically ugly on just about everything that he has ever recorded. You wouldn't think that it would be possible to make the classical guitar sound so cold and empty but, here it is.

  • I don't even understand why people is giving him excuses. It's obviously not good ! Come on !

  • @superyab and that must be he makes more than you at something that some consider a hobby

  • @wdm0201 I am French, and I didn't understand very well what you said. But if you said that he is doing more than I can do, I will tell you that I don't need have cancer to be a doctor.

Yes I am a guitarist. But you don't need to play an instrument to judge someone. If I don't like his playin it's my right. For me what he is doing is not music.

If that's not what you meant, sorry.

  • Even though this piece is meant to be up tempo, It's still played ridiculously fast. I've heard Fisk play Spanish romantic pieces too fast. I hate to listen to something and feel I've been railroaded through it.

  • I thought Paganini was supposed to be played fast...

  • I'm like shit to see coments like " He just have speed and bla bla bla " i think he is just a person that have done a interpretation of a violen piece,

PD: And don't say nothing about my english i'm froms spain! :D

  • hahahahahhhaha

  • haha, some people are funny. Whoever thinks that this master of guitar "sucks", please play a song ON GUITAR and post it on youtube...we'll see who's better =D

  • @taifsuhail Your comment is simply stupid. Movie critics dont make a movie of their own when they criticise a movie. Sports commentators dont go on the field and play the game after they point out the mistakes someone did.

Just watch Li Jie's version of this, after that one, this just feels extremely sloppy and played as if in a rush.

  • @ScarletMagenta that´s doesn´t mean this version is wrong ;) is different and this doesn´t make this guitarrists better or worst ;)

  • @ScarletMagenta Li Jie's version sounds like the playing of a young talented Oriental student...duh. Nothing very special there other than her impeccable technique. Fisk is a sloppy player, true, but his version at least has some emotion.

  • dude u suk

  • First of all he is pushing the classical guitar beyond its sound projecting abilities. This is probably considered cool in the mainstream rock and hardrock realms of music (if your bold enough to call mainstream rock "music"). Classical music is a combination of musicianship and years and years of practice. Oscar Ghiglia said it best," ...when music is loved it lives..."

I think Fisk has moved backwards in his playing and can only see speed and technique. (which requires zero musicianship).

  • @Knocktua I agree. He needs to take a step backwards & re-evaluate his direction on this approach towards music. He is a great player who is playing for himself. That's not a bad thing but there will be blowback

  • This guy is fkn amazing. People saying he's sloppy, I'd like to see you try lol

  • Paganini used to write this stuff on guitar but only as a tool...he played it in public on the violin. This amazing dexterity is why Eliot taught at the Mozartium in Vienna.

  • ESE CABRÒN ES EL "`GRAN ELIOT FISK" DEL QUE HABLAN? ESE WEY DISTORSIONA MUCHO LAS NOTAS DE ESTA BELLA OBRA; HACE UN DESMADRE. EN MI OPINIÒN LA TOCA 100 VECES MEJOR "LIE JIE" ADEMÀS. PINCHE PELO FEO QUE TIENE !!

  • woody allen on cocaine?

  • is this a homeless man covering the new mars volta. thats what it looks and sounds like

  • I guess there are compositions that aren't made to be transcripted for the guitar..

  • Wow, I didn't know Andy Dick was such a sloppy player.

  • QUE ASCO ESTE TIPO,EN TODO MI TIEMPO COMO GUITARRISTA CLASICO JAMAS AVIA VISTO ALLGO TAN FEO Y PODRIDO,ESO NO SIRVE,HACE UN ENBARRADERO DE NOTAS,ESE GUITARRISTA NO SIRVE PARA NADA,NO SE QUE ESTA HACIENDO ALLI,PERO LA VERDAD ES DE ADMIRARSE POR EL VALOR QUE TIENE DE PARARSE HAY AUN SABIENDO COMO TOCA,DEBERIA LLAMARSE "EL ASESINO MUSICAL"NO SIRVE.

  • He can definitely play but shit this is so sloppy

  • non si capisce niente

  • and 0:37

  • Did anyone else notice him correcting his tuning at 0:17 and 0:21?

  • All those who hates Fisk, please, don't forget he's the last pupil of Segovia.

  • @Vladislaw81 and so what?

  • @brakancat13 And so, he's the one who have the very Segovia style.

  • I had no idea Andy Dick was this good at playing guitar. Makes you wonder why he would choose the dim spotlight of a mediocre t.v actor. Thumbs up Andy! Great interpretation.

  • What an insane guitarist! Fisk is a hoot!

  • I prefer Li Jie's version (she was only 13 when the video of her playing it was made as well)

  • He doesn´t have to play it so fast..

  • i guess you guys don't understand how impossible it actually is to play this on guitar with the correct interpretation. This guy is amazing

  • @raven35 the song just wasn't hard enough for him so he decided to speed it up.

  • Comment removed

  • @raven35

eliot fisk is amazing but this version isn't really good compared to john williams,li jie or su meng and other pros version.

  • The first time that I heard Eliot Fisk playing this song I hated it. I found it dirty and out of control. After watching some other players who play this same song with loads of pizzicatos, tremolos and harppegios with impeccable technique, I thought: ‘this is not Paganini neither.’ I think Eliot is closer to the right interpretation of this song. It is a shame that he sacrifices the clarity of the sound in some parts.

  • This is amazing... It would take me a few lifetimes to get this good. Elliot is playing Paganini's caprice #24 exactly how it should be played on guitar. It's a show piece not necessarily something soft and gentle, but brilliant and expressive. Glad that his is available for us to witness.

  • he makes me nervous, shakey, wanna run out into traffic

  • There's still so much work to do on the guitar construction...

I hope some genial lutist will take this huge chance soon...

  • Amazing! I wish I can play like this, probably, if I the patience to practice day and night.

  • @EvilEyester

trust me you wouldnt like to play like this... watch li jie's video

  • @ScarletMagenta I saw her's, she was amazing!

  • añorigjñrqjñgorjigñAWRGIJñwgoarñgavkjanlvjKAVNLVAADFBAKLÑDjñzlfkjvasd ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? ?? ? ? ?? :S

  • What a mess.

  • @zakalwe101 You're a mess...

  • One of the Andres Segovia protege's hehehehe.... just look at the right hand placement, just like Christopher Parkening's = the The Andres Segovia "right hand".

Bravo... this is the way it should be played, with FIRE AND GUSTO!....

  • horrible

  • I didnt know Andy Dick played the gitar. Looks like hes in pain.

  • I didnt know Andy Dick played the gitar.

  • Don't defend him by saying "its his style" He played too fast and he messed up. If it were any other player you'd be on his ass too. Its sad to see so many other better players get called "robotic" and "boring" when they play with more feeling and love than this guy.

  • @GooGiGooo he is not playing the guitar here. he changed his guitar into a fuckin violin, and it's amazing. why you can't understand this

  • Ive heard what paganini on a guitar sounds like. I heard what a cello on a guitar sounds like. This is not a violin, its pure horror. I don't know why you like this guy, sure I dont mind the guy, Ive seen other videos of his and they were pretty good, but his attempt here was just pretty bad. He should learn how to play the song first before he embarasses himself in a recital packed with people and all over youtube. Look up Su Meng or Li Jie if want to hear violin on a guitar.

  • @GooGiGooo

I just checked out Su Meng (like you recommended). She's just unbelievable!!!

  • Ewww

  • Also for all the Fisk haters - listen to the reaction of the public! Look how many people loved this performance. He was playing on the NY Guitar Fest, probably after some other great guitarists. It shows how the audience appreciates a refreshing change, improvisation of some kind and courage to play in such reckless manner! Even Segovia appreciated Fisk and his playing. Check out his official website for more testimonials. The guy is truly successful. Regardless of our opinions.

  • It is simply his personal, intimate decision - how to play a particular piece. He always seems to play in a very emotional (for some chaotic, energetic, zany for others brilliant, invigorating, refreshing) way. The point is, Fisk in my opinion is an incredible performer, since he has enormous music wisdom and knowledge. His interpretations on the other hand are unique and inimitable. You may love him hate him but still you will never say that his concerts are a bore.

  • I'm torned apart. If I was there, listening to him live (paid for the ticket etc.) I MIGHT just get up and leave, since he is playing in such a chaotic matter (missing notes, hand slipping, left hand - right hand synchronization errors etc.). BUT, it is not true as some people are saying here, that Eliot Fisk has a poor technique. He has an brilliant technique actually, but tends to play some of the pieces very very fast (sometimes maybe even faster than a composer intended).

  • yucky bass notes, learn some control

  • Si algún día llego a tocar ésto, espero no tocarlo tan mal como Fisk

  • 472 dislikes?

    Wtf!?!?

  • el caballo rojas tocando guitarra despues de su accidente que le dejo un gran daño derebral

    jajajajajaj hijo de la chi.............

  • The Malmsteen on classical guitar 1:30 lol

  • so rich on emotion!! but quite poor on technique.. =S

  • BRAVO

  • scopa un po di più...

  • Outch...my ear~

  • lol at the responses seriously. The emotion in this is of an angry fat 10 year old pounding the wall cause he didnt get any chocolate from mommy.

He ruined this piece with his terrible playing. He swallows all the notes and still acts as if he is transfixed with the music as if he is playing it beautifully

While I know some of you are going to say "why wont you play a piece like this if you are so talented" Ill say that this is exactly why I wont play. Because it would sound crappy like this.

  • He's got a lot of fire when he plays. I liked this very much. Great job!

  • ohh god ....its Stewart copeland!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:24

    unleash the retardation

  • Comment removed

  • @ScarletMagenta 34 ass holes don't know how to appreciate music!

  • @phersnickerd I appreciate music much more than you, believe me, and this wasn't it.

Watch Li Jie's, Su Meng's or John Williams' rendition of this piece. Elliot Fisk's sounds like an abomination after hearing those...

You shouldn't play a piece like this publicly if you don't haven't mastered it. He is a grown man, he should be knowing that. He certainly lacks practice, speed and emotion. And PUBLICLY reciting a masterpiece like this even though you SUCK at it, is simply stupid...

  • @ScarletMagenta Oh really?!?! Appreciate it more do you? I would love to see the device you invented that measures such a thing. I bet you're better at smelling your own fecal matter out of the glasses you fart in too! I understand that it's not the best performance, but it's not like you can triple S rank a song every time you play it.

Oh, and don't forget to APPRECIATE that the piece was composed for the violin.

  • @phersnickerd First of all, be a man, dont talk like a 10 year old child.

Second; just do what I said, listen to those renditions, and come and listen to this one. You will see the major differences and see that I am right.

If you have devoted your life to guitar and playing a masterpiece to thousands of people, you actually MUST "triple S rank" it. This is not some amateur video that was taken at someone's home. He is playing it to thousands of people, and he shouldn't play like this.

  • @ScarletMagenta I not disagreeing with you, I just think "unleash the retardation" is more childish then anything I've said. What is so childish about flamming some A-hole who is doing the same thing to some guy who's trying to keep the music alive?

His performance may be a bit stale, but I'm sure he's doing to keep these beautiful works of art around than you are. If I'm wrong post a video. Idk I'm done

  • @ScarletMagenta fucking hilarious!

  • well to say at least something positive to this, which I truly do mean.. I think this really captures the vigour and energy of these caprices. I think in terms of intensity/feeling this one is more correct than Li Jien's version..

  • #OMG

  • I didn't know Andy Dick played guitar!

  • Eliot is a real virtuoso guitar. Amazing work!

  • esta loco..

  • If we could combine Eliot's intensity of attack with Li Jie's precision and dexterity we could have something good here. In my opinion, it sounds like music when Li Jie plays this and it sounds like a frustrated madman on high doses of caffeine when Eliot plays it.

  • @aimjames86 Your right, Elliot Fisk and Li Jie play this song so differently doesn't even feels like the same song. I like Fisk's version better thought because there is more emotion in it.
