Bouguereau is under-rated or dismissed, but I think his work is absolutely lovely. His wife's paintings were on the same level, some say, even better, but she was too busy raising his children to produce much of her own work
Well, it's understandable, especially for the times and still acceptable for today, after all, men weren't constructed to carry infants in their bodies. I am one of those who think Madame Bouguereau was the better Painter. Yes, their style is similar, they met in art school, but there's a certain determination/sense of ownership in her work (what little I've seen) which is so patently original that it seems to suggest he may have been working to impress her
Lovely: Unlike many films about Artists, this one is not corny. Klimt was a fabulous Painter, on a par w/Bouguereau but is known by mainstream only for the gold-leaf, erotica work
I would not even take one of his painting if offered for free. Without the name, the the paintings would surely get no attention.

un film davvero particolare...raffinato nelle sue espressioni...molto avanti...lo rivedrei volentieri...

It breaks my heart to hear that
I've heard her work was also very similar in style

I absolutely agree with you, that's what I've always believed
And it really is a shame that Bouguereau is never credited enough
