Muang Luoang, actually is pronounce "Luang", it means Huge, Vast, Big or anything that is emphasizing on gigantic in size. Hoong by itself is means "bright" but uses with Toohr like "Toohr- Hoong" it is a Dragon.
The word Chiang means either Valley or Flat Plane or Flat Field. Now let's couple Chiang to Hoong and now we have got the most popular Tai City, which is ChiangHoong.
I don't they are Lao, but related to Lao people. Tai Lue culture is more similar to Shan and partly North Thai cultures. They used the same writing system that derived from Mon script unlike Lao and Siamese (modern Thai) that comes from Khmer.
Cye, let's focus on our within reach goal first and possible our definite goal. which is Yunnan, China. Fact is, it is our autonomy with our history records.
To be honest i understand this more then thai but i get what your saying though because i showed my parents and they were like ..... what are they saying and im like . i know what they are saying why dont you? but when they watch thai dramas its the other way around they understand so much thai when i know so little and can make out a few words but anyways i dont think it doesnt matter since we both came from the same familly we both have a sorta common language.....dont we ? X)
its the accent of the people...like esan people i sometimes dont understand what they are saying..and if i were to listen to slow song in thai..i understand perfectly..but if i listen to morlum...i dont understand the meaning of the song at all..
Not true! Lao Isan speak Lao, that is an answer itself. Present Laos is independent in name only, but in reality Laos is under Keo occupation. Keo holding every key government positions and Keo citizens have previledge and power than Lao themselves. Also, Laos is still one of the poorest countries on earth. Ehthnic Lao face discriminations and prejudices in every aspect of life. Hope this give you an understanding why many Lao do not feel comfortable being called or known as Lao.
To Flounder751 I agree that lao is underdeveloped country..but the way you say are rude and no manners to call them "poorest countries"...yes lao people faces "discrimination and prejudices" just like every other race but not in every aspect of life...if you say that you are totally wrong....i dont know who you are and where you live...but by the way you type about lao people..you are very rude...
ThaiBlossom! Sorry for making you misunderstanding. When i said Lao people face "discrimination and prejudices" i meant it has been happening more in Thailand where large ethnic Lao population are living. I know is not here in the U.S.A. I am Lao as well and consider to be purely and truely Lao. Most of all i am very proud to be born Lao. It is a fact that Laos is one of the poorest country in the world due to Vietnam's Lao puppet government mismanagement of the country economy and politics.
To Flounder751 I live in the USA..i'm asian....i know where i stand....and i know for a fact that in the USA no one is better then anyone....and for sure in the USA lao people dont face discrimination and prejudice like you say...so before you say about lao people or any other race get your fact straight....
ThaiBlommom! I am standing firm on believing that Lao ethnic people are facing discrimination every day in Southeast Asian countries where the Lao are minorities, especially true in Thailand and Burma. There are about 10 Lao villages located in the border area between Burma and Thailand. The Lao there have to pay tax for all 3 main groups such as Burmese, Karen and Shan. They were forced to be slave labor when conflicts broke out among the three. I would like to talk more, but I am out of limit.
you mean tai not lao. lao people r part of the tai tribes. if you ask any tai people they never say we r lao they call themself tai and thier language is tai kadai.
thats becuase thai bangkok language has change and they dont teach old thai language in school anymore. but outside bangkok like ayudtaya the ancient former capital of thailand they still totally different from bangkok thais they still speak thier thai derm language. they dont say pom khun ter like bangkok.
I can kinda understand a lot of this video thanks to the Chinese subtitle helping me(I am Thai and heard that Shan and Thai are mutually intellegible)
Oh,I though it is the shan song of burma,no wonder I understand ,it is the tai song from kumin,Yunnan. The writing is called "to korm" still use in laos and esan by the monks

In 1254 Lao ppl lost war to the Mongol Keng Kis Khan. Lao ppl escaped from Nong Sae in 5 major routes:
1. To the North Eastern section of India and become Assam.
2. to north of Burma and became Tai Yai in Shan State.
3. follow Mae Nam Nan and added to Lao ppl who came earlier in 740 and becaome Lao Lana
4. fallow Mekong River added up with lao ppl who came earlier & become Lao Lan Xang.
5. last group fallow Nam Dam, Nam Deng who became Tai Dam and Tai Deng.
We are all same race & blood.
