oh, i was taught a different way where the pinky comes under the top of the deck and you grasp that part with your pinky, ring, and middle fingers then your pointer finger(already under) pushes up the bottom using the thumb and over the original top half. this is a lot easier...

This tutorial is absolutely terrible. It's not that his instructions are WRONG, it's that too much is omitted, and he's just terrible at explaining things. Look, here's the KEY to the charlier (one-handed cut) that he doesn't even mention. You MUST have the deck resting high on your fingers. The bottom card should be resiting on the 3rd joint of your ring and middle fingers. Small hands are NOT a factor (unless you're an infant, I guess).

an awesome trick with this cut is to force a card to the back of the deck and before you complete the one handed cut you tilt your hand slightly back so that your middle finger gets in between. Now you release the pressure from the thumb and you can slowly slide the bottom card up with your middle finger using only the friction from your finger and card. Once it's almost out it's easy to land the card facing up on top of the deck. Is THIS your card? ;)
