The western society, however, is the one that demeans women by objectifying them to sell products, and allowing relationships where women's rights aren't protected as when in the case of a lawful wife. Therefore, Islam is a better protector of women's rights.
Moslim women have held high positions in several Islamic countries: Pakistan elected Benazir Bhutto prime minister twice, Turkey elected Tansu Chiller as Prime Minster, Bangladesh currently has an elected female Prime Minister, and Indonesia's current president is Megawati Sukarnoputri. Most western countries have yet to match that record.
