  • dr Alice said we wer all black then we evolved further and become pale skinned.

I think it's all rubbish bcos we addapt to our environment more the evolve to somthing else.....

think of it this way humans are the most advanced creatures on earth in every way but we are not the oldest.... why didn't the other creatures evolve towards human like creature. clearly the crocodile would've been changing towards us. natural selection isn't it.....

  • I say the next century is the end of natural selection and the beginning of intelligent design. Who will be the designers? WE WILL. I'm sure by the end of the century we will be life designers. And make our brains better because seriously it is a fact that all humans have brains, but p only some use it.

  • The premise of this is silly. Of course we're still evolving, it is arrogant and anthro-centric to assume otherwise. To say that humans aren't evolving is to hold on to the antiquated belief that we're perfect as is.

A better title would be "Where is human evolution going?"

  • this documentary sucks

  • Stuff the religious nutters, let's control our own evolution using genetic engineering. Do we want to go in the future wondering once again, how far and advanced could we be by now if religion wasn't in the way.

  • Thank you so much for uploading such a beautiful documentary :-)

  • Does anyone know why I can't like other peoples comments? It never works... In no video... Why??? Same for the comments... why do I sometimes have to retype it 3 times and always renew the page to make sure it's in the list..... Why doesn't it work here like it shouldddd.?.. It's really starting to getting enoying!!!!!!!! Anyone???? Any Idea? THX

  • Does anyone know why I can't like other peoples comments? It never works... The same for my comments... sometimes they just don't come in the list and I have to do it a second time and always renew the page to be sure it's maybe in the list..... Why doesn't it work like it should???? Anyone? Help please

  • Does anyone know why I can't like other peoples comments? It never works... I can comment, answer, like the video, but can't seem to like other peoples comments... wwwwhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, cause it's enoying!!!!

  • As you can see, because I have taken one aspect of one human body from 33,000 years ago we have all clearly stopped evolving.

If you want the answers go into maths.

If you want to assume go into science.

  • in the future humanity will evolve into two separate species.. nerds and jocks

  • We are always evolving. Because of the environment that we created for ourselves, Natural Selection has slowed down, but we are always still evolving. It's either live to evolve further, or die because you didn't evolve fast enough to survive the changing environment around you.

  • @ethenga11 natural selection is still taking place. Our physical evolution may have slowed down, but our mental evolution is still expanding. What we define as disabilities may just be the result of evolution. Autistic Savants are evidence of that. And having an ideal mate doesn't matter in evolution. If you carry the mutation that advances evolution. As long as you procreate, and your offspring survive to pass that on, and so on, then evolution has done it's job.

  • 36:00 Bollocks. What about all the current exposure to pollution and poor health care in the least developed world (and increasingly in the so-called developed world, in the name of austerity measures)? That's certainly driving our evolution. Maybe radiation-resistant children in Japan after a few generations? Or lead-resistant children in small 3rd world towns that happen to be located near a big transnational-owned mine?

  • @simiyachaq They still have a massively higher chance of surviving than the would of hundreds of years ago.

  • @22.40 it,s all good. bedroom then classroom.

  • she colored her hair red, cute, makes her eyes look even deep! u look cute hun x

  • It's strange that most people had lactose intolerance, yet I would assume would have been brought up breast feeding

  • @Orlando2914 Notice they also call it "lactase persistence" several times. In most mammals, the ability to digest milk is lost at weening, some of us just happen to be an exception to that rule. Think of it this way, we're also all born without teeth, yet for some strange reason adults need dentists... physiology (at both the gross and cellular level) changes over the course of an organism's development.

  • @AutodidacticPhd Isn't it more accurate to say that there is a gene for lactose digestion that some people have and others don't?

  • @vjohn82 No, because we all have a gene for lactose digestion... but in most mammals, including people who are "lactose intolerant", the gene is shut off when the individual is weened. So the way you are putting it is somewhat missing the point.

  • god, I do like her, but her accent is driving me nuts... as a non-native speaker, I want my nice, plain internet-english!

  • @neoZykl That is an English accent.

  • WHO DISLIKED THIS??!?!?!

    I WILL DESTROY YOU!!

  • why can't more scientific documentaries feature hot red headed women?

  • I'm glad the creationist havn't made any comments on this video yet ...Ha Ha

nice show , thumbs up !!!!

  • That's interesting with the earthworm, does that mean smokers can evolve to breath carbon monoxide in the lung?

  • @gerjaison Yea, in maybe 1M years there is non-zero probability they could. But worms have much faster reproduction rate than humans, they live 2-3 years and every year have new generation. SO insects evolve much faster than humans do. I would assume that insects evolve 10000 times faster.

  • @MaryMartinish Not believing in Evolution is a defect in your ability to accept evidence, and believe in something which has never been proven instead. There has never been anything that has ever come close to disproving Evolution, but endless amounts of evidence for it. To come to a different conclusion to the rest of us is a flaw in your intelligence.

  • @Wolfhaines Who is, "the rest of us?" MILLIONS believe in God now and since the beginning of time-History tells us that alone...Evolution is popular NOW, but... There is plenty of evidence for the existence of God- People of great intelligence like Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas have set out the proofs and the common sense of the rest of us tells us that the world around us has such perfection and order to require a supreme intelligence to create it and keep it running. Flaw or fair logic?

  • @MaryMartinish The religious who live in ignorance and fear. You claim there is evidence for God? WHERE?! The world is nothing but evidence for the word itself, not a cause. You skip the link and claim God is a creator- where is the link?! Aquinas was laughed at 500 years ago wit the 'Perfect Island' argument. They aren't as intelligent as you claim. We are more intelligent now. Stop living in ignorance.

  • @MaryMartinish plenty of evidence? which god yours. are you a virgin mary? this doc is about evolution shouldn,t you be watching something else. dump your holy bla-bla and get real. i,d pray for you but that,s for fools.

  • @userwl2850 My ACTUAL point is, that there is plenty of reasonable evidence for fair-minded people that God does indeed exist; whether He chose to use some kind of evolution is IRRELEVANT. Darwin' s particular evolution theory is ARROGANT in its absolute rejection of a CREATOR. Dr. Roberts showed great esteem for the beliefs of the monks of Skellig Michael- It is not difficult to see why people like you find atheism more attractive- "No God, No rules"- Let's see how long the illusion lasts..

  • @MaryMartinish /watch?v=K2TZOAENUhs ... /watch?v=CTRS2herpbQ

  • She could tell that old skeleton was a male's because it got a boner ( 13:12 ) after all that gently caress.

  • This girl is Beautiful!!....... smart, sexy..... amazing!

  • of course we are, we're evolving mentally. We're in a transitory area, known as civilization. We are moving from barbaric savages to rational human beings.

  • everything comes to an end, the question is how and when if we plan on fighting the end

  • That was great! Evolution/natural selection is making us shorter and fatter: That means that I am at the cutting edge of evolution! I'm really short and fat! : )

  • basically, Orlando, Florida has some of the ugliest people on earth.

  • The dodo was originally a flying bird releated to pigeons and doves. When they arrived in the Mauritius island there where no predator and no need to fly so they becamed flightless. This is a case where less selection lead to evolutive changes. The human specie have been throught this kind of change in the selection patern. This will almost certainely lead to evolutive changes. We are in an accelerating stage of are evolution.

  • evolution will never stop. it will only slow or accelerate as there will always be "feedback" from the environment no matter how imperceptable it is. see "the secret life of chaos".

  • I think Dr. Alice is a great presenter, and she does have a Ph.D. in paleopathology.

    Her focus on deceases is OK, but;

She seems totally to forgotten the question about sexual selection. That was one of the main themes in Darwin's theories.

The peacock factor for sure is active among us as well!

  • @skinnyjohnsen sexual selection is overrated. stupid people tend to have more offspring than more intelligent ones. also people with disabilities breed all the time. if sexual selection is a major driver of evolution then it seems we are devolving when you think about it. also who is doing the selecting? when it comes to sex, the vast majority of people get what they can rather than selecting the ideal. your ideal person to mate with in all likelihood will not select you. in humans no way.

  • Ethengar11, thank you. It was refreshing to read an intelligent post.

Or you could think of the bell curve. The average IQ for Caucasians is only 100. That means half of all Caucasians are even dumber, eeeuuuwwww.

And yes, the dim people are out breeding the intelligent people. Think of the favellas, the very poor neighborhoods in South America, full of drugs and crime. Could you talk about Jane Austen's novels with those people?

  • @ethengar11 Is there such a thing as "devolving"? Whether we're getting fatter or fitter overall, it's always in accordance with the environment (or in our case, how we manipulated the environment). It means we're shifting towards a species that doesn't rely on physical strength anymore, and more on brain power. Although I agree that dumb people mate more, I don't think we're getting stupider overall. The collective knowledge of the human race is constantly building on itself thanks to science.

  • @creamypouf8

    Fuck yeah!

  • @creamypouf8 "I don't think we're getting stupider overall." ...can you say irony?

  • @ethengar11 It's not "devolving" as much as just generic stagnation

  • @ethengar11 what do you meen devolving? there is no such thing. we could evole into something "dumber" or weaker but you cant devole

  • @ethengar11 but, now we humans choose the person to have offspring. before, it was with persons from all village or town that had survived several times fatal diseases.

  • @ethengar11 The scenario you describe would actually tend to lead to divergent evolution driven by sexual selection. The individuals with the most desirable traits pairing up would lead to one line, those settling for second best would lead to another... One clear example of how sexual selection is still in play is the fact that racial traits have remained quite distinct through most populations. If we weren't selecting mates by race, we'd all be "grey" by now.

  • @ethengar11 evolution does not have a goal so claiming that dumb and disabled people should not breed is not valid. we are not "more evolved" than other species, we've just evolved to this state. intelligence worked for us, speed works for a cheetah, size worked for some dinosaurs, etc. Just because we are the only animals that do things the way we so doesn't mean we're more evolved. It's just nature. Except for panda's they're retarded because they almost never reproduce freaking idiot animals.

  • A good place to look for newly evolved traits in humans might be North Korea, where the population has been hungry for decades. South Korea provides a ready-made control.

  • Easy question to answer, yes. Our selective pressures are different now than they were throughout other stages of evolution, but there are still selective pressures. Only time can tell how our new ways of living will change us.

  • Aprilshowersss, you don't have to wait that long. My generation WAS the fattest, laziest generation in the history of the world. But teens today are even fatter than their parents.

In the 1920s, 7th and 8th graders were reading books by Mark Twain, Charles Dickens and Daniel Defoe. Today those books are only on the reading lists of ADVANCED 11th and 12th graders.

It's tough enough for teachers today to get teens to finish any book!

  • @AppleSouffle I'm not a huge fan of reading (I'll rather do math and science problems, something interactive) but what's so hard about Mark Twain and etc?

  • Of course, we are always evolving. Pushing the limits of physical, mental, or technological limits IS evolution. Evolution is not merely to grow or not grow canine teeth. Building giant physical structures IS evolution. Deleting or inserting an gene into our chromosomal scaffold IS evolution. Adapting to arsenic or using it instead of phosphorous in the DNA IS evolution. So is altitude adaptation, or skin pigmentation, or adjusting surface area exposed to extreme temperatures for best survival.

  • Love your uploads, thank you so much!

  • thanks for the upload :)
