well this is the problem as steel round balls in .177cal are really called BB's then airsoft came out and every one thinks of airsoft as BB's now. An airsoft is 6mm (smallest, I think) so they wouldn't even fit anyway, but if there were such a thing as .177cal, (4.5mm) airsoft bb's it wouldn't hurt the a pellet gun as long as it was desgined to shoot steel bb's. Pellets are just that pellets like .22cal hollow-points, or .177cal feild hunting pointed pellets etc. but I'm sure you knew this.

yeah and watch that 7.5mm steel bb simply roll out the barrel before you even pull the trigger, and even if there was 6mm seel bb's an airsoft gun shooting at 300fps wouldn't shoot steel bb's any more than 30fps, lol talk about close range shooting. But it wouldn't work as steel bb's (.177cal, 4.5mm), is way smaller than a 6mm airsoft bb.

Daisy might claim the Powerline 617x gets 485 fps but it I bet it doesn't. I have a Daisy Powerline 008 which is just like a 617x and it says 485 fps on the package and in the instructions, I chronoed it and it got 411 fps average with bbs and 380 fps with pellets.

All these air pistols are a joke. I was almost savaged to death by my dog i shot him in his lip to get him off me he did'nt even feel it and continued his attack. All that happened was the bb was stuck in his lip for a few days before i pulled it out. My one is an Anics A101 and i have the A112. The only possible use for self defence is if you emptied a whole clip into someone but i was'nt gonna do that. Their just for fun.

The next step up from a blank is a BB. If you shoot someone point blank range, in the temple, through the eye, underneath the rib cage, and just about anywhere with a high powered BB rifle, they CAN kill somebody.
