one example for the stupid misunderstanding of Hyenas is the ancient Ethiopian belief that the Falasha people were transforming into Hyenas at night and attack villages. Hyenas have no reason to prey on humans, unless the Humans take over their domain as expected from Humans and then Hyenas have to fight more ferociously to survive or if they are really hungry. the point is Hyenas are much more noble than Humans believe.

I love and admire the hyena; thanks for making this video. The two big complaints against hyenas are ridiculous and/or false:

—"Lions don't eat their prey alive!" Sorry, they do. Not always, but often enough; and viciously slowly.

—"Hyenas are scavengers!" Hyena hunts succeed up to 95% of the time. Lions? Maybe 30%. Before night vision, lions eating kill at dawn with hyena around led to the assumption the hyena were waiting to grab a lion kill. Now we know its the lions who stole a hyena kill.

I was just in Botswana. I got within about a foot of spotted hyenas (through a fence). At the time I had just petted a cheetah.....the hyenas were so much more impressive in person to me than the cheetah. They were huge, with ridiculous teeth like the one pic on here shows. They seemed so curious and smart. They would stay 20 feet away when we stood up. As soon as we knelt down to their eye level, they'd creep up close and sniff us through the fence, our noses literally inches from theirs

I hate lions, they are brainless oversized cats with claws, Hyenas bite is ranked 3rd on the planet for its bite, and are masters of chaos and confusion. They use something that no other animal uses as an attack, they use psychological warfare on lions, a highly sophisticated mental attack. Hyenas are great, and id stand by them before a lion anyday

Such great video with beautiful pictures! Hyenas are magnificent creatures who have gotten a bad reputation for something they are not. They are intelligent creatures with a highly sophisticated society. They deserve so much more respect than they get. And while, yes, they are highly trainable, I wouldn't recommend keeping one as a pet because they are, of course, wild animals.

Thanks. That said, I still can't wrap my arms around them like lions. To me, the male lion is the most noble and courageous creature around, and I love it when they give hyenas a taste of their own medicine. And lions seem to relish killing hyenas, like this is what they were born to do. I know the feeling.

I'm tired of hearing how hyenas have the strongest jaws iin the animal kingdom. Remember how supposedly learned 'biologists' used to dismiss them as scavengers, too? I have yet to see a definitive study that determined hyena bite force. Lions can crack bones and shear off limbs too. Maybe the Mythbusters tackled this, anybody knows?

Sometimes I check out alot of comments regarding hyenas and it blows me away how alot of people have such extreme hatred for hyenas. They look at them still as cowardly scavengers or animals who kill with hatred. They are just predators surviving in Africa. I think they are very fascinating.

i have news for anybody who hates Hyenas...the Hyena is the only animal in Africa that goes after top predators, they arent afraid of anything! they would kill, hunt, or chase down almost any animal in africa. They also hunt more then lions do, the Hyena is extremely intelligent and is a master of causing confusion...and they also broke the Vultures code too...give respect where respect is due, and these animals have suffered a terrible imagine for nothing.

Really, I don't understand why people hate Hyenas so much (unless they've been attacked by one, though most have not), I mean they're hardly praying mantis for crying out loud! And they're not so bad! They're intelligent, they hunt their own prey a lot, and they can eat ANYTHING! (Kind of useful, really!) And they seem less aggressive to humans than Lions are!
