  • Awesome job...

  • light a quarter size pile of mag in high wind............let the fourth of july begin

  • Thank you for your comments. Vaseline cotton balls are great, and one of many options available. I personally carry 3 or more methods of fire starting, the Mag Stick kit is one of them. I use the wax paper to collect the shavings keeping them away from the wind and concentrating them also. Thanks again!!

  • The problem I found with magnesium block, is that even a slight breeze blew the magnesium tinder all over the place, but I'm wondering if the magnesium shavings could be scraped off into one of your stainless steel cups so it can't blow away, and would be concentrated to some degree at bottom edge of cup, to be tipped out and lit straight away with kindling? but still think vaseline cotton balls are easier, at least you can pin them down in the wind:)

  • @mlndstream I watched a video from "goinggear" where he scraped his wood scrapings onto the sticky side of duct tape before lighting it, I think that idea would work well with the magnesium bar too.
