All the previous was about Johnny Owen, but if you watch the other I am sure you would say everything you have all said here about this good kid from Korea. Tell you one thing they're both friends now -- no question.
How many boxers have died? The fight with Mancini and Kim is also REALLY sad. Terrible. I don't know how to react correctly anymore. To be honest: I'm 42 now not 22 and I want the kid back. I know that at 22-23 I would have said "He was an awesome warrior, a great soldier, etc.." and THAT is also true. He really looked like a nice kid everyone probably loved so much and that was really hard to watch. Rest in Peace. That is all I have left :( Looked like a GREAT kid and he is a champ -- forever.
This man had what so many men don't. Courage and the will to get up when they shouldn't. It can lead to you to your death. I suppose that why a lot of men don't want it. What word do you use for it???
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. Eclessiastes 9:12
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a Mexican boxing fan, and I'm ashamed of the way most of our fans behave in sporting events, mainly boxing and soccer. I think they're actions are disgusting, shameful, and classless.
I wish there was I way I could make them understand how lowly they make all of us Mexicans look, and I assure you we are not all like that. Some of us have appreciation and love for the sport.. If there was a way to change their way of thinking, I'd teach them to love & respect the sport.
Your thoughtful attitude and genuine respect for the competitors instantly put those assholes to eternal shame.
We know they are not entirely representative but it need guys like to you to speak out. Which you have done. Keep doing so and you will prevail.
English football banished racism from games within a few short years. The real fans had had enough of such crap - it wasn't the Football Association who changed things, it was the guys on the terraces.
I noticed Japan never does this, no matter where their opponents are from, they always applaud in respect to them. I wish more countries were like this.
I know every country supports their own boxers, and even boos the opponents, but it's a shame when they start throwing crap at them and disrespect them in such a horrible way.
Some times I feel like it should be the boxers who have to ask for that respect toward their opponents...
... If I was a pro boxer, I would ask the audience to please respect my opponent, and treat them as if he were one of our own. Some times the way a boxer acts does reflect on the audience, take Alexis Argüello for example, man what a true gentleman he was, always showing respect and appreciation for his opponents. His professionalism commanded the respect of the audience. Same with Salvador Sánchez, never cocky, never disrespectful, and for that reason he got respect back.
This arena back in the 70's was known as a rowdy place with wild drunks that wanted to see knock outs and blood, kind of like soccer hooligans that will kill each other unless seperated.RIP Johnny Owen.
WTF was the point of some fans acting like pigs?I see racism on their part. And if it was the other way around?Wah! Wha! You're racist.Fuck ALL those pigs
Bot5tom line pal-Pintor showa more class than You or those animals in the crowd..Tommorow when I wake up Im rich ,retired and happy.I hope I catch some of Your families herd in Arizona.Slimeball
its a boxing fight lad chap not the Queen's tea party, you should expect rowdy annoying Mexicans throwing beer around, knocking dudes out perhaps even sending them to their grave..
@cristopherkloeess Thats no excuse for behaving like that. Those fans are probab;y related tp the fn 2ANIMALS that attacted the Giants fan@Dodger Stadium. They were pieces of shit.
@cristopherkloeess Owen had an unusually thin skull, it was discovered. And as far as Tyson is concerned, let's be honest...Pintor wouldn't have lasted two seconds against a heavyweight like him.
What a big heart this kid Owen had!! I read the book The Big If and love it. Pintor was also one heck of a champion its cool how he gives Johnny props for giving him one of the toughest fights of his career and that says a lot coming from a guy who had wars with the best fighters of that era Gomez, Davila, Zarate, Lujan and Kid Meza.. So sad but Owen lived his life to the fullest doing what he love to do and got the of respect of the fighting community..
the last comments were so true, nothing tragic about Johnny Owen at all he lived his 24 years to the full and his motives were nothing but honorable, to take care of his family, makes me sick to think some boxers think trash talking and dirty tricks are the way to gain respect
