I loved my ereader until last week. Aug 17 i was having some battery issues so called again. We updated my software etc. Now all of my books are locked. The women was very friendly and tried to solve but was unable. Escalated to Teir 2. It is now Aug 26, no word, so I called again. They said i will just have to wait and nothing they can do. My Kobo is now a paperwieght. As my fellow book club readers are enjoying their ereaders I need to go buy the book again but this time in hard copy.
Amazon releases cheaper ad-supported Kindle. For details, go to Facebook and search "ereader" to access the ereader community page for the latest news and offers.
What disturbs me is that, from the Chapters/Indigo book chain in Canada, "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels is included as the 100 Classic books pre-loaded. Communism has killed at least 130 million people so far. 10% of all Canadians are refugees from Communism or the descendents of refugees from Communism. Tell the Chapters / Indigo bookstore monopoly you are not interested in buying mandatory Communism with your e-book reader!
@Dracopol capitalism kills thousands of people everyday but you probably don't know that because it only affects the people from third world countries. vietnam, irak, the whole african continent... the list goes on . I'm not trying to insult you or anything it's just that capitalism also has its victims.
@ramasosa No, capitalism doesn't kill. The Third-World is SCREAMING in favour of globalization, but spoiled suburban kids go demonstrate against it. We have even discovered that "Fair Trade" practices actually IMPOVERISH people compared to direct competitive bidding for prices. The very poorest coffee-producers are unable to front the money needed to certify their own coffee as "organic" and "fair trade"!
i know these e readers are good and all but i prefer the regular book pages because when i finish i can put them in my book shelf and it makes my look smart :)
@onelove4408 e-Ink doesn't play like that. There is no back light in the screen. It uses the light in the room instead, so it actually gets easier to read the more light you put on it. If you bring it outside in broad daylight, you'll have absolutely no problem reading at all. The screen is also matte, so it has almost no glare. It's impossible to read in the dark, though.
I’m starting to see the Kobo more and more which makes sense…once people find out about this easy-to-use reader, they will be buying it up. It also has space for an extra card to expand your memory – you don’t have to buy a new ereader like with some brands. I’ve had no problems with my Kobo and I love the convenience of having it with me everywhere. What a price, and with WiFi? I’m thrilled! It supports ePub, PDF, and Adobe DRM! ~Sandy, Kobo Community Manager

what a useless review. Why do you keep looking down, are you reading another website review? Also, every time you "show" us something you hold it in front of the laptop so we cannot see anything. Thank you for wasting my time.
@LLGoldstein It's pretty simple, I was actually using the MacBook as a teleprompter, and I also had the camera on it going. I was looking to cut the video together, but the MacBook stream didn't look particularly good, so I didn't use it.
@grahammwilliams I applaud your ability to keep a level head when dealing with youtube trash. Thank you for the review I am probably getting one of these soon.
@LLGoldstein Those were rather insipid reasons not to like a review. Couldn't you have reviewed the information in the review and not the way the review was presented?
My gf boght a book from kobo. It turns out the book was just converted by some utility and kobo didn't have anyone check the book in kobo format. The utility failed to handle tables properly resulting in large sections of scrambled text. Kobo support said a refund would be issued but after 2 weeks and another call it was just a lie. Try to avoid Kobo because of their proprietary book format and poor customer support.
@teensbrains hey you said it works with manga. i checked the ebook store from kobo itself and when i type names or word "manga" they dont know it. where can i buy mangas for my kobo?
My Kobo came today - no experience with e-readers so was a little put off that the text wasn't black on pure white (like a printed paperback) or that the screen couldn't be a little bigger, but as the day's wore on, I've started to like it more and more.
The fact it comes preloaded with 100 classics is a good move too.
Graham thanks for the review. I have a SONY Pocket Reader (the PRS-300) and and I am now considering a Kobo as a Xmas gift for my wife. One additional point worth mentioning is that unlike the Kindle which uses a proprietary ebook format, the Sony and the Kobo support both ePub and PDF ebook formats. This gives you the option of buying ebooks from many different sources and also, as I discovered, the option of borrowing eBooks from the local public library.
I have had the Kobo since the US release, & LOVE it... I looked at the Nook, but the added things on the Nook, didn't really impress me. I have downloaded 5 books, & wont need to reconnect it for quite a while. I didn't want an MP3 player, WiFi-don't need, fancy touch screen-what for.. I would buy the Kobo all over again, hands down!
@vondoken this comment of yours made my mind to get one. well, i got one just now and watching and reading vids and comments about this kobo and all i hear is ugly ass. i bought my for like 129 dollars and as i saw best buy nook for 99 dollars. i wanted to return my kobo but i think i'll stick on it. besides, the nook might be sold out now.
I picked one up earlier today and so far I'm quite enjoying it. For anyone who isn't a huge fan of the software, I should point out that Calibre works quite well with it for managing your library and also converting any ebooks you might find from other sources (such as other non drm'd ebook sellers or the usual other places).
Great review. You might like to shift the MacBook to one side. It blocked the view of the Kobo when you tried to showcase its side buttons at approx 1:55. I'd get the Kobo soon, once it becomes available in Singapore.

@exodous02 Given that the price of the nook and the kobo are the same now (for the WiFi nook and the Bluetooth) I'd have a hard time choosing. I'm going to be picking up a nook at some point in the future, as I do like the WiFi feature, but the simplicity of the kobo might make it my choice as everyday reader.
@grahammwilliams I was talking to a worker at a borders and they made mention that it might be possible for annotations and notes made on computers programs to be viewable or exisiting on the kobo. Is this true?

Can't watch this video because it lacks the sound on the right channel, pity.

@aurbina07 no the thing about the kobo is that the screen dosent hurt your eyes so you might need a bit of light to see.
