What an fantastic teacher. In watching these few minutes I've gained knowledge on how to be both a more effective teacher, player, and student. Hardenberger truly is brilliant.
His concept of air is so basic but one that is so disregarded by too many young players. Short but long. Exactly. Air moving forward always. Very simple. But astonishing when put int actual practice. If you can sing it, you can play it. Of course, his tone is so much darker and fuller than hers. But the concepts he is teaching are tried and true. Excellent video.
I joined the marines i ship out in march. I just graduated from high school. I also play the trumpet I was 5th chair symphonic band my senior year. I'm didn't choose band as one of my options but i think i want to try and see if i can make it. The only problem is that i my private lesson teacher at the time was telling me i need to change my ambisher so i can get more range and endurance and better tone in the upper range (5th line f# and up) do you think i have a chance of making it.
Wow you can hear such difference in his tone and hers, and she's very lucky to hear that live and right in front of her. That is awesome. She's got some good chops too. He has a got a big sound.
@bassbonemexie the thought is going that way and the air is going that way. It is a way to trick you brain when thinking a direction does not help you to blow constant, relaxed and even.
@bassbonemexie he means that she is projecting so well that the sound is going out and coming back instantly hard to explain but thats the easiest way to put it
Obviously two people missed the like button. This is absolutely incredible. He takes stale playing, and turns it into passion in a matter of minutes....wow! 1:20 just pops and it's fun again! nice! Thanks for posting!
It seems to me that most written-in staccato notation is superfluous.
I ALWAYS considered that to be a damn unnecessary tease when I was studying with my professor. And I told him so;He agreed
If you want full-value yet soft volume sixteenth notes, DON'T WRITE THE MUSIC WITH THE DAMN STACCATO NOTATION !! Eliminate the unnecessary crap. Then players will know leading up to the tonguing of the passage to just play it the way it was meant to be played.

Martinu can be tricky under pressure... dry mouth and lots of articulation can bite one on the backside. not to mention the chorale at the end. But hey, I'm so great I never get anything wrong ;-)
It's the RNCM's main concert hall. It's 450 seater hexagonal space. He sounds huge because you are hearing more sound reflection than the girl who is playing in the direction of the microphone.
Gentelmen, I am sure Hakan is an outstanding performer, Of course there are many turmpet idioms and always one who stands out the most.
In jazz to name a few , Winston Marsalis , If you like screamers Maynard Ferguson and the best of two worlds Doc Severinsen, so you see is a matter of respect and admiration for those who perform the trumpet to their most of their habilities. They are all great in their way of playing so enjoy it .
hakan hardenberger is awesome. but whoever you claim is the best trumpet player in the world, people are going to disagree. i feel that jouko harjanne is probably my favorite soloist, and philip smith and phil collins of cincinnati are two of the best orchestral players
Lol I love how it's one of the best trumpet players in the world with perfect technique, sound and intonation and the guy is amazed at the transposing.
That was incredible. She was totally terrified, it seemed to me, but she made it through and you could hear him transforming her sound right there on stage!!!

Having a very good ear for intonation is essential on any instrument if you are going to get even to a good amateur standard.
Some are born with this ability. For the rest it is a case of ear training.
Whilst the girl on the clip is very competent and can certainly play the notes, Hakan is teaching her the most important thing: MUSICALITY.
The acid test when playing a piece (or even a study) should always be "does this sound enjoyable or not?" It isn't an olympic sport, it's art.
