I've got loads of Russian friends & they all had the same sorta thing going when they first started speaking English. The humour comes last.

Bear in mind, he's had to do all his learning on tv, with mics in his face. If he says the wrong thing, BAM, a thousand youtube comments about how retarded he is (or isn't).

Scrutiny doesn't exactly help the confidence.

He understands heaps more than anyone realises. He gets all the quick-spoken English jokes, and he has done for over a year now.

And you can't really compare english languate and russian. English language is one of the easiest languages to learn. I tried learning german, spanish and swedish , all their grammar and rules and all I can say that english is most easy language of them all. So there.

Neversaynever, Is english your first language? English is certainly not one of the easiest languages to learn. Between the grammatical rules and tenses that change in various occasions, and not to mention the fact almost no one speaks proper english, it is an incredibly difficult language for someone who does not naturally speak it, or for someone who was taught to speak it at a young age.

Kudos to Malkin for his efforts, if english is not your first language, it is a difficult challenge

Im russian, and I have learned english all by myself. Mostly by reading literature and watching movies. It took me 5 years. BUT! If I had an oportunity to communicate with english-speaking people on daily basis I would certainly handle it in 3 years. And if you really think that english tenses are hard to learn you should check out spanish tenses and verbs. I bet it would give you a headache.
