Nice - I've wanted to get one of those backpacks - I've been pulling the plug out of my CX4 and putting it in a regular backpack - it's a tight fit even in two parts - if I could have gotten my hands on a Sub-2000 I would have been pretty happy - but the Beretta is soooo nice.
I did a bunch of research on .223 vs 9mm and I figured a 9-carbine in urban areas would be best - most Uzis and MP5s are 9; carbine-fired 9 beats basic body armor.
I also preferred having the same ammo as my pistol.
Whatever you get I would highly recommend .45 ACP it is one of the most if not the most common handgun ammunition. And is almost always easy to find, even over the past year I haven't had much problem finding it on the shelf. Have a 20 year retired cop friend and that is the only thing he would trust his life too. Also he affectionately refers to a S&W as "Short and Weak"
get a glock 17, it's extremely accurate and reliable. Glocks are reliable because they are easy to maintain (due to having less parts). Not to mention that it is a beautiful looking pistol...I would choose glocks as a battle weapon anyday...

Choosing between a Glock and a Sprigfield is tough but I think I'd go with the Glock because they are pretty reliable and easy to strip & clean plus Glocks are light weight which is something to consider in a bug out scenario.

45 cal. pistol or 9 mm ......they are very well tested and reliable and ammo is pretty easy to get....stay with something that has easy access to available ammo...
I have both a Glock 22 and a springfield XD i prefer the xd over the glock. They are both in .40 S&W I have shot the xd in .45 and would spend the extra money for it if i was going to buy again.
a .45 is a great man stopper, but if you want something easy to use, a little less powerful, no tools to tear down, very easy to take apart and put back together, get the .40 cal Beretta. Super reliable, with good ammo capacity. Love you commets on your video's, keep on going.

There's an ammunition shortage all over the US for just about every caliber. I would get a Glock since they are easily more durable than even Sig, and they hold a large amount of ammunition. Otherwise try and the caliber before you buy it. XD's are a joke don't buy them, just a glorified and less durable Glock.

like I said before...do not discount a 22LR pistol the ammo is cheap enough that you can practice shooting with out breaking the bank. then later you can get a larger caliber- In a bug out situation you will have to contend with weight too. in alaska a mosin nagant 7.62X54R can still be purchaced for around $100 and is powerful enough to bring down a grizzley.

like whats already been said before go with the weapon you can find ammunition most easily. im not sure what your pistol shooting experience is but its a skill that takes solid and continual practice to maintain.
you'll be able to practice more (and carry more if you take the woods) with 9mm at a greatly reduced cost than either of the heavier calibers. a couple 100 round bricks of 45 is not light.

Glock 22. My preference. I haven't shot many different types lately, but did compare it to a Para 45 last weekend. I'm a girl though, so the lightness, grip, and easier to maintain Glock helped in deciding. Good luck! I could tell a lot just holding them, by weight distribution, safety functions, slide releases, etc, that I liked and didn't like.

I have shot lots of different types of handguns, Glock 22 is a very well balanced, light, accurate, +++high capacity+++, self and home defender. Fewer moving parts than other pistols (takes less time when cleaning), and all internal saftys. I have had 1 stovepipe in over 3,000 rounds through my 22, but it was foreign manufactured ammo. Learn how to make your own bullets and you will never go without bullets. I knew a guy who had his workshop set up to make any bullets he needed. He also had an arsenal for a small platoon in a safe. Get a copy of "The Anarchist Cookbook" if you can find one it is a wealth of information that will be needed in the coming "Change".

Go for the Glock. Springfield XDs are cool, but I have had issues with magazines. Also, it's likely 40-cal ammo is used by your local police (check on that)--which may mean it might be less scarce in the local area...
The .45 cal is a MAN STOPER. It will knock him down. But the 9mm is cheaper in terms of rounds plus it can allow you to carry more rounds in the mag. It you go with a 9mm pratice the "double tap" 2 rounds will bleed him out very fast. And go center mass. But in the woods ie..bears. go with a 450 or idealy a .50cal Desert Eagle and aim at for the teeth. hence hitting the brain stem!
Yeah, DC, you want knockdown power. If you have to get into any firefight you want a RIFLE. Like someone earlier said, a center fire rifle (AR-15 as a minimum - preferably a semi-automatic .308). There is only one reason you should ever buy a pistol: you want to carry without anyone knowing you are packing heat.
If you want baddies to know you are packing heat, then carry around your shotgun. Pistols should be seen as a backup to your rifle - if you have to pull the trigger, rifle is best.
I think a rifle is a very bad choice for home defense, especially if you live in an apartment. You'd probably end up shooting your neighbors through the wall with rifles going off. Shotguns or hollow tips are good for those situations. I think to say that the only thing a pistol is good for is concealed carry is a pretty far stretch of reality.
9mm is easier to get, has reasonable knock down power and a higher rate of fire due to less kick. You can also typically hold more in your gun.
If your in a gun fight you would want a .40 or .45. The knock down power reduces the risk of return fire. On the other hand you would want to be good at using the gun because you would have less shoths, and a lower rate of fire.
With poor light, such as a dark room, you are only expected to make 1 in 5 shots on a moving target at close range.
I'm a big fan of the 1911 frame in .45, but it's not a great carry gun due to size/weight unless you get into the generally more expensive short barreled versions (Kimber or the short XD for example). .40 is the lowest you should go in caliber if you expect to carry in the woods IMO, it's bear country!
Never buy a pistol without first breaking it down at the dealer and putting it back together a few times. Some pistols are a real b*tch to maintain, best to know what you are getting into!

Shoot the guns at the range first, if possible, Demcad. I ended up buying an S&W pistol as my first hand gun. After shooting the Glock 19 9mm I wished that I had bought it instead. Good Luck.

I own and strongly reccomend a Springfield XDM.40 which holds 16+1 and makes it easy to hit what your shooting at.
.40 seemed like a worthwhile compromise to me. With a 160 grain bulet you get the speed of a 9mm with more size and weight. With .45 you get even more size and weight but less speed and ammo capacity. I find .40 to be a little easier to get than either 9 or 45. I don't think you can go wrong though, even with a 9.
Demcad, I would not get too hung up on the caliber or which handgun you choose. All handgun calibers are weak in comparisn to nearly all centerfire rifle cartridges. What I am telling you is you would you your handgun to get back to the rifle you should have never left behind. I'd go for one of the taurus semi-auto's. Lifetime guarantee and reasonable cost. Don't le the gun snobs talk you into a gun that costs twice as much as it should.

You should go with a glock, if you can get a glock 17 9mm, ammo is still abundant and reasonable, if all you can get is a glock 22, you can buy a conversion barrel and extractor for it, this will essentially turn it into a 9mm firing glock22
you can also check-out davidson's (galleryofguns . c o m), great deals on guns - used them numerous times and they give you a lifetime warranty when you buy through them.
The .40 is usually the police round. It's become very common and is a great compromise in the argument between the .45 vs. 9mm argument. All handgun ammo is scarce right now, but where I am, I find the .40 S&W quite often, and less often do I find .45 auto (which I use). So the Glock would be a good choice, and if you see ammo, stock-up like crazy, and then you're set.
S.A. XD45 rocks! 13 round clips of.45 will get the job done with a BIG thump! Its my main handgun. I also have a Browning High Power 9mm, also w/ a 13 round clip, again firepower rules! High capacity mag handgun is the way to go. I prefer the .45 because of the BIG hole it leaves in all targets. No need for follow up shots to finish the job with chest or head shots. Make sure to research the ballistics. What ammo is cheap in your town?
XD is nice, but getting expensive. Browning High power is a work horse, but browning is usually expensive. I have the Israeli Jericho 941 .45 cal. - excellent and well proven.

I'm not a big gun nut, but i have a Glock 22, .40 cal. I like it alot, but the ammo is about 18 bucks per box of 50. Pretty pricey. But aside from that, it's great.
Alot of people are really partial to Glock. My cousin is in DHS and she says that her department recently went with H&K and everyone wants their glocks back, lol.

You should almost consider a .22 (Ruger 10/22)- if you can hit an "assailant" in the lower throat a couple times (even once) you will eliminate everybody except Christian Bale and that guy from Watchmen.
You can use the .22 for all sizes of game. It is illegal in many states for hunting large game - such a small bullet cannot, under usual circumstances, humanely kill a 400 lb animal (deer).
But we speak of self-defense against two-legged predators here - state law possibly dissolved...
Demcad...you can get your guns cheaper by getting them off the net(auctionarms, gunbroker, etc) and having them shipped to your local gun dealer for pickup and paperwork....your local gun dealer will probably charge you $20 or so for the exchange but you can save a ton of money off the price of the gun....plus you can get whatever you want instead of shopping the limited selection of a local gun store.
I can see what you are saying about the presentation... I guess I just believe in being brutally direct in situations like that. We are far too docile these days... like sheep being led to the slaughter house. A wild pig won't go as politely, and that might not save his individual ass, but it makes people less likely to try to herd up a bunch of wild pigs.
For the pistol... go with a glock 45 acp. Accurate, reliable, cheap... there's a reason most police departments use it.
Glock and springfield xd are very good weapons. I own both. But keep in mind that both of them have no safety. So I do not think they make good carry guns if you are inexperienced. I would go with 9mm and a real safety.
My carry gun right know is a walther ppk/s, but it's hard to find ammo (.380acp). My favorite gun is my CZ 2075 rami. If you are on a lower budget check out Bersa, they are excellent.
There is an aftermarket option for them to install a manual safety. Just google sliderlock. It will cost you about $ 50,- and you can install it yourself very easily.

Nice - I've wanted to get one of those backpacks - I've been pulling the plug out of my CX4 and putting it in a regular backpack - it's a tight fit even in two parts - if I could have gotten my hands on a Sub-2000 I would have been pretty happy - but the Beretta is soooo nice.
I did a bunch of research on .223 vs 9mm and I figured a 9-carbine in urban areas would be best - most Uzis and MP5s are 9; carbine-fired 9 beats basic body armor.
I also preferred having the same ammo as my pistol.

Whatever you get I would highly recommend .45 ACP it is one of the most if not the most common handgun ammunition. And is almost always easy to find, even over the past year I haven't had much problem finding it on the shelf. Have a 20 year retired cop friend and that is the only thing he would trust his life too. Also he affectionately refers to a S&W as "Short and Weak"

get a glock 17, it's extremely accurate and reliable. Glocks are reliable because they are easy to maintain (due to having less parts). Not to mention that it is a beautiful looking pistol...I would choose glocks as a battle weapon anyday...

Choosing between a Glock and a Sprigfield is tough but I think I'd go with the Glock because they are pretty reliable and easy to strip & clean plus Glocks are light weight which is something to consider in a bug out scenario.

Thanks to Wilson, their are a lot of people checking up on Obama Speech. If it weren't for his outburst, a lot of dumb down people would of never checked up on his speech, they would of just believed him as they always do. I have both a Glock 22 and a springfield XD i prefer the xd over the glock. They are both in .40 S&W I have shot the xd in .45 and would spend the extra money for it if i was going to buy again.

a .45 is a great man stopper, but if you want something easy to use, a little less powerful, no tools to tear down, very easy to take apart and put back together, get the .40 cal Beretta. Super reliable, with good ammo capacity. Love you commets on your video's, keep on going.

MAYBE was an accident, but I think it was intended and planed and IF he is lying about the fact that he was just playing the game, that is the only thing I don't like. I think he at least thought about about before he did it, these guys have better temper control then that. There's an ammunition shortage all over the US for just about every caliber. I would get a Glock since they are easily more durable than even Sig, and they hold a large amount of ammunition. Otherwise try and the caliber before you buy it. XD's are a joke don't buy them, just a glorified and less durable Glock.

like I said before...do not discount a 22LR pistol the ammo is cheap enough that you can practice shooting with out breaking the bank. then later you can get a larger caliber- In a bug out situation you will have to contend with weight too. in alaska a mosin nagant 7.62X54R can still be purchaced for around $100 and is powerful enough to bring down a grizzley.

like whats already been said before go with the weapon you can find ammunition most easily. im not sure what your pistol shooting experience is but its a skill that takes solid and continual practice to maintain.
you'll be able to practice more (and carry more if you take the woods) with 9mm at a greatly reduced cost than either of the heavier calibers. a couple 100 round bricks of 45 is not light.

About the outburst, normally I would agree with you, but in the current circumstances of the US, more people need to stand up and call liars, liars.
Glock 22. My preference. I haven't shot many different types lately, but did compare it to a Para 45 last weekend. I'm a girl though, so the lightness, grip, and easier to maintain Glock helped in deciding. Good luck! I could tell a lot just holding them, by weight distribution, safety functions, slide releases, etc, that I liked and didn't like.

I have shot lots of different types of handguns, Glock 22 is a very well balanced, light, accurate, +++high capacity+++, self and home defender. Fewer moving parts than other pistols (takes less time when cleaning), and all internal saftys. I have had 1 stovepipe in over 3,000 rounds through my 22, but it was foreign manufactured ammo. Although fullsize, I still am able to use this as my CCW. Check out my vid from yesterday

Learn how to make your own bullets and you will never go without bullets. I knew a guy who had his workshop set up to make any bullets he needed. He also had an arsenal for a small platoon in a safe. Get a copy of "The Anarchist Cookbook" if you can find one it is a wealth of information that will be needed in the coming "Change".

The .45 cal is a MAN STOPER. It will knock him down. But the 9mm is cheaper in terms of rounds plus it can allow you to carry more rounds in the mag. It you go with a 9mm pratice the "double tap" 2 rounds will bleed him out very fast. And go center mass. But in the woods ie..bears. go with a 450 or idealy a .50cal Desert Eagle and aim at for the teeth. hence hitting the brain stem!

Yeah, DC, you want knockdown power. If you have to get into any firefight you want a RIFLE. Like someone earlier said, a center fire rifle (AR-15 as a minimum - preferably a semi-automatic .308). There is only one reason you should ever buy a pistol: you want to carry without anyone knowing you are packing heat.
If you want baddies to know you are packing heat, then carry around your shotgun. Pistols should be seen as a backup to your rifle - if you have to pull the trigger, rifle is best.

I think a rifle is a very bad choice for home defense, especially if you live in an apartment. You'd probably end up shooting your neighbors through the wall with rifles going off. Shotguns or hollow tips are good for those situations. I think to say that the only thing a pistol is good for is concealed carry is a pretty far stretch of reality.

9mm is easier to get, has reasonable knock down power and a higher rate of fire due to less kick. You can also typically hold more in your gun.
If your in a gun fight you would want a .40 or .45. The knock down power reduces the risk of return fire. On the other hand you would want to be good at using the gun because you would have less shoths, and a lower rate of fire.
With poor light, such as a dark room, you are only expected to make 1 in 5 shots on a moving target at close range.

I'm a big fan of the 1911 frame in .45, but it's not a great carry gun due to size/weight unless you get into the generally more expensive short barreled versions (Kimber or the short XD for example). .40 is the lowest you should go in caliber if you expect to carry in the woods IMO, it's bear country!
Never buy a pistol without first breaking it down at the dealer and putting it back together a few times. Some pistols are a real b*tch to maintain, best to know what you are getting into!

I own and strongly reccomend a Springfield XDM.40 which holds 16+1 and makes it easy to hit what your shooting at.
.40 seemed like a worthwhile compromise to me. With a 160 grain bulet you get the speed of a 9mm with more size and weight. With .45 you get even more size and weight but less speed and ammo capacity. I find .40 to be a little easier to get than either 9 or 45. I don't think you can go wrong though, even with a 9.

Demcad, I would not get too hung up on the caliber or which handgun you choose. All handgun calibers are weak in comparisn to nearly all centerfire rifle cartridges. What I am telling you is you would you your handgun to get back to the rifle you should have never left behind. I'd go for one of the taurus semi-auto's. Lifetime guarantee and reasonable cost. Don't le the gun snobs talk you into a gun that costs twice as much as it should.

You should go with a glock, if you can get a glock 17 9mm, ammo is still abundant and reasonable, if all you can get is a glock 22, you can buy a conversion barrel and extractor for it, this will essentially turn it into a 9mm firing glock22

The .40 is usually the police round. It's become very common and is a great compromise in the argument between the .45 vs. 9mm argument. All handgun ammo is scarce right now, but where I am, I find the .40 S&W quite often, and less often do I find .45 auto (which I use). So the Glock would be a good choice, and if you see ammo, stock-up like crazy, and then you're set.

S.A. XD45 rocks! 13 round clips of.45 will get the job done with a BIG thump! Its my main handgun. I also have a Browning High Power 9mm, also w/ a 13 round clip, again firepower rules! High capacity mag handgun is the way to go. I prefer the .45 because of the BIG hole it leaves in all targets. No need for follow up shots to finish the job with chest or head shots. Make sure to research the ballistics. What ammo is cheap in your town?

I'm not a big gun nut, but i have a Glock 22, .40 cal. I like it alot, but the ammo is about 18 bucks per box of 50. Pretty pricey. But aside from that, it's great.
Alot of people are really partial to Glock. My cousin is in DHS and she says that her department recently went with H&K and everyone wants their glocks back, lol.

Demcad, keep up the good work man. A GLOCK can be left underwater, run'd over, dropped, kicked, beaten and buried in sand or mud for years, and still shoot straight with no misfires. "Plastic guns really do ROCK! at least GLOCKS THAT IS. The G37 uses a .45GAP round instead of the .45 ACP that all other .45's take. this is good and bad: you can always find ammo as it is not popular yet in law enforcement/ will be harder to find after collapse (no stores) .45 is awesome and will take a limb off!

It's only been 7 months give President Obama a chance! Bush drove the economy in the ground for eight years. The S&W 9mm compact is a very reliable gun. Thats what I hear. I'm not a fan of weapons.

I'm going to be nice because you seem like a sincere person, but please realize that Obama is doing everything Bush did to screw the economy up, but only more so. He's expanding our military presence in the Middle East, massively increasing the size of government and our debt, and generally expanding federal control of our lives. I don't want to give him a chance because he'll destroy the dollar and our freedom.

Colt or Springfield 1911 model, these will
last you a lifetime and are easier to shoot.
There is a reason why competition shooters use these. They are also easier
to conceil having a flater profile. This design has been popular for close to a

You should almost consider a .22 (Ruger 10/22)- if you can hit an "assailant" in the lower throat a couple times (even once) you will eliminate everybody except Christian Bale and that guy from Watchmen.
You can use the .22 for all sizes of game. It is illegal in many states for hunting large game - such a small bullet cannot, under usual circumstances, humanely kill a 400 lb animal (deer).
But we speak of self-defense against two-legged predators here - state law possibly dissolved...

Demcad...you can get your guns cheaper by getting them off the net(auctionarms, gunbroker, etc) and having them shipped to your local gun dealer for pickup and paperwork....your local gun dealer will probably charge you $20 or so for the exchange but you can save a ton of money off the price of the gun....plus you can get whatever you want instead of shopping the limited selection of a local gun store.

I can see what you are saying about the presentation... I guess I just believe in being brutally direct in situations like that. We are far too docile these days... like sheep being led to the slaughter house. A wild pig won't go as politely, and that might not save his individual ass, but it makes people less likely to try to herd up a bunch of wild pigs.
For the pistol... go with a glock 45 acp. Accurate, reliable, cheap... there's a reason most police departments use it.

Glock and springfield xd are very good weapons. I own both. But keep in mind that both of them have no safety. So I do not think they make good carry guns if you are inexperienced. I would go with 9mm and a real safety.
My carry gun right know is a walther ppk/s, but it's hard to find ammo (.380acp). My favorite gun is my CZ 2075 rami. If you are on a lower budget check out Bersa, they are excellent.

Glock's got to be the best handguns, I think.
There is an aftermarket option for them to install a manual safety. Just google sliderlock. It will cost you about $ 50,- and you can install it yourself very easily.
