penn switched her phone with another one when he puts the necklace around elton john, you can tell because iPhone cameras have auto-exposure and when he pulls the other phone out of what is probably a pocket of some type and the screen is all washed out as it was probably dark in the pocket, thus over exposing the camera when it actually receives light when it is removed. The whole elton john thing is just a gimmick to get her phone off stage as fast as possible.

It's from their Vegas act, so you can watch others' phone videos on YouTube to see how (most of) it's done.

Wasn't trying to be rude, just an invitation to guess again. always watch the hands and for anything to go out of view. the cardboard cutout was the misdirection, watch when he puts the necklace around the neck. Thats the switch, then they carry the phone away with the cutout and put it in the fish backstage. No plants. Plants are weak.

Hmmmm, seems to me that Stephanie was an actor (notice the american accent aswell). She just plays along with the whole performance.

They choose her (no random selection), the phone in the box is just a fake double, they dont even prove that the phone has the same video that was taken at the start on it. Her acting is a little obvious at times aswell... eg "what kind of fish is it?" --- "smelly?" thats not what people would naturally say.

Can anyone disprove this explanation?

@mewman999 Simple: the box only had a fish. At 7:10 you can clearly see that the phone bag is actually up against the back of the fish, not coming up from within the fish. I couldn't spot when Teller actually pocketed or reintroduced the bagged phone, but then, he's Teller and I ain't; I'm pretty sure the guy could palm something right in front of me without me noticing.

So I think that there's no need for them to use shills for this, just to palm the phone instead of bucketing it.

He switches the iphone for an identical one when he puts the necklace on Elton John. Tossing it into the red bucket gets rid of the phone double while also throwing off the audience. It gets taken backstage in elton john and put in a fish. No idea how it gets to the box

@monkeymind3 If you look closely when Stephanie hold the box so that the bottom is visible, you can barely see a little outline, just big enough for the fish. I hypothesize that there's another person working there that walks under the seats and puts the fish in the box after it's sealed.

I saw Penn and Teller do this trick at the Rio in Las Vegas. It's exactly the same live as you see here. Nothing has been edited or removed, they move at exactly that pace, the box really sits in the audience from the time they start seating to the time when they do the trick, and yes, the phone is inside a totally intact frozen fish. I don't know how they do it.

Penn and Teller are also some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. They stick around after every show to greet everyone.

@reservoirdog909 The fish is not "totally intact". When Teller takes it out to let the girl smell it, you can see the guts hanging out of it. The phone is already inside. The trick is in how they get the fish into the box.

It's easy, lol. Teller, a master of sleight of hand, placed the phone into the fish At some point before or after he was cutting it open.

The ringing itself would be easy, they had her friend call her phone once before. The only reason they would do this is to get the sound of her ringer so they can play it from the speaker hidden somewhere inside the box.

@reservoirdog909 The "bait and switch" happens when teller takes the box to be opened on the table. What happens is the box he originally uses is empty (Sound is played below the seat, not from the seat), then when teller gets it ready to be opened he pushes the fish into the false bottom. So when you open it the fish is there, with your doctored fish within.

Fabulous idea for a show... and Penn & Teller are just frickin' wonderful. Only weak spot on this show is Ross. I don't like him at all. Luckily his role in it isn't that central it seems, so I guess it doesn't matter :)
