so based on the comments, most people like houdini better than maya? Now this may sound noobish, but because I intend to move more into 3-D animations... what's the biggest and most important difference, and if so, what's like-- the best 3D animation software out there?
@storm351035103510 it depend on what you want to use it for for a noob i would go with 3ds max its very easy to learn compare to the others in my, maya is full of stuff nan its learning curve is steep + max has a crap load of tuts online am most of the times its what you see people using online in tutorials but its always good to learn both to some degree if possible but its up to you try 3ds max first an see how it feels don't be intimidated just have fun go to cgtuts for free tutorials :)
@multiverses2009 Everything has its strengths. There's a reason Maya is used for modeling and animation on every workstation in almost every studio in the world while generally FX Houses only have a couple copies of Houdini. It's so hard to master and so difficult to do simple tasks in no one would ever really want to model or texture in it.
Yes, all of the shots on this reel were either created entirely in Houdini, or Houdini was used in conjunction with other software to achieve the final rendered result.
