big difference between 80's pg and modern pg, 80's were designed for EVERYONE meaning both kids and adults liked hogan and the company in general, the stories were better, the talent was better, everything was good. in modern pg the posterboy for wwe (cena) isn't even that great in my opinion, he was much more entertaining when he was a heel. plus the stories are stupid, laurinaitis, i dont think any other words are needed. they took away the attitude era purely for greed, thats fucked up
ok so I've seen how people are blasting the current WWE PG era. Im 28 now and I fell in love with wrestling during the "other" PG era of Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter and The Million Dollar man. Thats what brought me in. Then I grew up into the attitude era. WWE'S puberty i spose you could call it.
The current PG era is just wwe coming full circle. So another generation can learn to enjoy what is essentially a weekly soap opera. You hate John Cena? You hate wwe? simple. STOP. WATCHING. IT. THEN!!!

For starters, John Cena is no more of a superhero than Hulk Hogan was. Vince McMahon has always treated wrestling as a live action comic book anyway. The two go hand in hand. Based on your comment, it doesn't seem to me that you've truly followed WWE programming that intently as of late. WWE appeals to a wider audience than you think (i.e. SES story?)
So yes, it may be more geared toward younger audiences than during the so-called Attitude Era, but that doesn't mean there isn't something for everyone there. Besides, plenty of children watched during Attitude as well. Of course, most of them are known today as "UFC fans". My best advice would be to try to watch it and just have a good time. Sure it has flaws and fallacies but it always has. Attitude was a haven for crappy gimmicks and storylines at times too.

@JudgeDoom500 Actually, they no longer interrupt matches to clean off wrestlers, and I was not in favor of that either. However, the reason they do so in post match situations is based on health reasons. Especially after Bob Orton gave them a bit of a scare in 2005. It isn't really a censorship issue. As far as realism goes, is it not true that medics clean up boxers between each round of a match? Boxing is unscripted as far as I know.

THEN all of the sudden wrestlers don't bleed in Hell In A Cell matches anymore (again I don't need blood for a match to be good but it makes it faker that wrestlers all of the sudden are immune to bleeding when they werent before.) Anyways I have Youtube and DVD's where I can watch wrestling matches from when for ME it was better.

@JudgeDoom500 Actually, they no longer interrupt matches to clean off wrestlers, and I was not in favor of that either. However, the reason they do so in post match situations is based on health reasons. Especially after Bob Orton gave them a bit of a scare in 2005. It isn't really a censorship issue. As far as realism goes, is it not true that medics clean up boxers between each round of a match? Boxing is unscripted as far as I know.

@Nate2764 Yeah, I guess so but the thing is they didn't do that before. Before they didn't interrupt whenever someone started bleeding. Then they bladed like crazy to. THEN all of the sudden wrestlers don't bleed in Hell In A Cell matches anymore (again I don't need blood for a match to be good but it makes it faker that wrestlers all of the sudden are immune to bleeding when they werent before.) Anyways I have Youtube and DVD's where I can watch wrestling matches from when for ME it was better.

@Nate2764 I was at a show in OKC where Chavo G got cut and they interrupted the match to wipe the blood away. Of course they do this now with the threat of AIDS, not so much because it scares the kids. Then I remember Mick Foley bleeding and his kids going nuts and freakin out so I understand your point as well.

It's because soo many wrestlers were hopped up on pain pills and steroids and they were all dropping like flies, Linda's running for senate, so Vince decides to take the wwe towards a different approach so his wife would win. They're not doing these make a wish foundations / support the troops shows out of the goodness of there hearts. He's just helping out his wife, hence the PG rating.

No, they made toys for kids, well how would the kids know these characters? In their minds, wrestling should only be for adult males, but it has and should never be that way. Pro wrestling since the early 1900s have been something for the ENTIRE family! We can look here on YT for old matches from the 60s and 50s and you can hear and see children and women.

@REVKOEHLER The only reason why the attitude era ended in 2001 was because WWE acquired WCW. since wwe bought out their competition and didn't need to take the risks anymore If WWE didn't buy WCW and, the attitude era will still be going on today. This is what's sad about the kids these days. WWE caters to kids like this and this is part of why Cena never loses, and why there's so little main event stars for the future. Rock & SCSA two of the best ever, if not THEE best, are legendary and they lost... a lot. Those were my heroes at this age. Cena & Orton are humans kiddies.
