they really know what they do hehehe arent they? the best heheheh so he uses live musicians for his tracks so is kinda jazz without lirics

  • Currently experiencing major white man's overbite...

  • naw.

HIP HOP is the mainstream version of RAP

  • @obi644 ,Naw Hip-Hop is the culture...Rap is the music of the Culture!

  • @obi644 Wisebrother is wise. Hip-hop is the culture

  • yup, knowing all 12 keys major and minor is mandatory for mastering your instrument.

  • @omleaninto & knowing more than just major & minor in each key is just icing on the cake XD

  • @omleaninto What if your instrument is the drums, lol.

  • @ThePhodut you could say rudiments are our keys, i asked chris dave a month ago what he practiced and he said it was just rudiments and 4-way coordination. that was it.

  • Robert is jus the best in my eyes, he is so different to most keyboard players out der,

bt as a keyboard player i cnt play minor on any keys, is dat a promblem as i keep going ???

  • minor has gone out of style i wouldn't worry about it

  • lol i hope this was sarcasm

  • it's whatever comes natural man, I can't play major.

  • I wish he would have sang his verse, its sick. Good performance anyway.

  • is thats B.Cox sitting down

  • @lojprod hell yea thas b cox bro....he suckin glasper lol

  • check out b cox next to robert glasper...much respect....

  • Cm,A7,Abmajor,G7alt.

  • EbMa7/Bb, AbMa7, AbMa7/G, Cmi7.

  • as far as the chords go i THINK the bassline just goes C, Bb, Ab, G, C....and glasper is just doing a modal thing with a lot of 4ths in his harmonies, then some sort of altered dominant on the G. If you want it exactly you'll have to just figure it out

  • the last measure sounds like a minor two five one

  • Brilliant song, does anyone know if this live version is available to buy anywhere?

  • Wow the bass is amazing after 3:00

    Great musicians, great Mos Def

  • this is great!wow robert and chris amazing...

  • dope

  • Glasper is a genius. So is Mos Def. Gimme the fortune keep the fame!!

  • LIVE HIP HOP. REAL HIP HOP THAT Is...

  • WOW

  • love how JJ plays with such finesse and so deep. listenin with headphones and loving how he drops it out at :50.... like he just muted his own track- that is just tasty

  • Dats da smooth shit..dats wat im talkin bout

  • Now this is good music from the soul !

  • amazinqq :]

  • YES.

  • I can't believe I missed this show. I hope they come back to Houston soon. This the perfect fusion of hip-hop and jazz. Freestyle or written, who cares, this is awesome.

  • Zach...thats an actual song by mos def and talib....he used da hook in the beginning "stop hidin yo face..cuz there aint no hiding place"

  • martial he said theres a difference between Hip POP and Hip-Hop..but i love this clip...as a musician, this is just sick

  • nice video and soothing

  • I'm not big on MCs but I do like most of the stuff coming from Mos and I fucking love Glasper and Chris Dave, but what I wanna know is if Mos is actually freestyling here or not. That would be more jazz based if he did a written chorus then freestyled for verses.

  • much of that was from Black Sheep - The choice is yours

  • good, but i was expecting talib kweli to come out...

  • This band needs to come on down to Birmingham, AL!

  • this is mad relaxing

  • this groove gives me eargasm ya;ll damn.. robert is sick on dem keys dmmnn..jon jon n chris are doing it bigg!! mos on mic is IT righ thr!!!!

  • What was BMC doing on his Blackberry the whole song?

  • Damn, I waited 6 minutes hopin' Mos would kick the damn verse! Great groove though.

  • This is the difference between Hip Hop and Rap

  • true true.

  • heck yeah... this is simply the natural evolution of jazz in the modern world.

  • haha yeah it woulda been so sick if he spat a verse.

  • He does... pretty sure everything including and after "we take the blackstar line" is improvised

  • Naw he's reppin lines from Black Sheep. This is all on "This Or That (Revisited)". Classic hiphop on Native Tongues.

  • Man, you're completely right. I was sleeping on Black Sheep, shame on me.

  • Aint no thang. I was just surprised cuz the song's pretty much an anthem. It happens.

  • @petzaman1 no. it's one offshoot of jazz and jazz isn't relegated to a more hip hop direction in the modern world. a lot more is happening with jazz and some of it is still in the traditional jazz vein and progresses a lot in that direction as well.

  • @rogersat that being said, this is awesome.

  • Its the difference between Hip Hop and Hip-Hop lol Glasper said that:)

  • haha hip hop and hip-hop good shit =P

  • glad to kno im not on my own :D

  • word

  • @AstrozaJ WHATS the different between hip hop and rap? you dont know?

  • @AstrozaJ o fo'sho!

  • RG and CD are so jelling with the bassist is sick!!!

  • hells yeah.

  • i wanna hear this live...amazing.

  • its great to hear someone paying homage to black sheep...they are the most overlooked of the Native Tongues Family and one of the most talented...ill song here

  • Man thas ill that he used the black sheep cover over Thieves in the night...take that black star line, ride on home! Imagine how sick this woulda been wit Talib!!

  • All these videos with Mos Def and Chris Dave are just so Groovy..I cannot tell which is groovier...

  • Wow, thats all I can say. My fav bass player and drummer, and Glasper is just ripping it and he's slow laid back

  • I love this shit!

  • yo when and where was that session ... i wish i was there ! guess in brooklyn somewhere...greetings 2 ya´ll music lovers.

  • The Experiment feat. Mos Def @ the Red Cat December 27, Houston, TX. Robert Glasper on keys, Chris Dave on drums, Jon Jon Web on bass, Mos Def on d mic! Classic material! The best musicians of our times on display playing hip hop!

  • at first i thought ?uestlove was the master of the hip hop beat but he ain't got shit on Chris Daddy Dave. SIC! wit it.

  • oooh, this shit is so beautiful

  • glasper is an upcomming jazz musician. its great to see hip hop guys hooking up with guys like that

  • damn i thought that was mos was going to do his actual verse, that would have been dope.

  • the song is called stop hindin

  • Nah dude, its called Thieves in the Night from the Talib Kweli & Mos Def Are Blackstar album..

..he got the 'stop hidin' part from an earlier hiphop or soul song...

  • HipHop 101.......no its not called "stop hiding"..it's Thieves in the night..if u havent heard it..please listen to the blackstar album..

  • dang mos do the effing song!! fuck

  • This is what real music is about

  • Real

  • dis just sounds amazing! wow!

  • Chris is the most solid drummer in the industry!

  • I C BMC!!! LOL!

  • I'm sure everyone out listenin agree that everything you see aint really how it be, lotta jokas out runnin in place chasin the style, a lot goin on beneath that empty smile

  • ...Most cats in my area be lovin the hysteria

    Synthesized surface conceals the interior

...i truly love that man Mos.

  • best rapper alive (lil wayne is sucks)

  • i wish i was there

  • So so sick, Rob Glasper has changed my life in a week... I have to agree with Giagetto tho, Mos ain't doin much, but I think he's just appreciating the vibe, trying to flow with it vs trying to shine (or outshine in this case) An understated groove oriented show, would have been awesome to be there!

  • Mos (in my opinion) really compliments what's going on, which is rare to see. Most rappers these days haven't had the word 'musical' be described to them as anything important.

  • Who can say it wit me? 'Not strong, only aggressive. Not free, we only licensed. Not...

  • ...compassionate, only polite (now who the nicest?), not good, but well behaved, chasin' after death so we can call ourselves brave, still livin' like mental slaves.

  • what tha hell is bryan cox doing? LOL!

  • from which album this track is?

  • The Name is "Thieves In The Night" from the Black Star Album with Talib Kweli.

  • the best 3 piece band ever!

  • i love mos def but he's not doin a hell of a lot here.

  • OH SHIT

Been listening to the original track the whole winter long. Mad respect to Mosdef, me heart Hip Hop played with live instruments.

  • what's the name of the original track?

  • The Name is "Thieves In The Night" from the Black Star Album with Talib Kweli.

  • thanks!!!!!!!

  • SPEACHLESS AGAIN!!

  • I love the feeling between Dave and Web. Glad that this is posted here - I missed when Glasper came to NYC Sympony Space, and I've been curious. Hip hop is better with live musicians. I like how Mos Def isn't afraid to quote the older joints - You can git with this, or you can git with that. Sweeeeetness.

  • this tells me I really gotta come to see how you do it in Houston! This is great

  • i was there and it changed my life

  • Nice shit man! This how Houston do it!!!!

  • I'm lovin this...
