@ThePhodut you could say rudiments are our keys, i asked chris dave a month ago what he practiced and he said it was just rudiments and 4-way coordination. that was it.
as far as the chords go i THINK the bassline just goes C, Bb, Ab, G, C....and glasper is just doing a modal thing with a lot of 4ths in his harmonies, then some sort of altered dominant on the G. If you want it exactly you'll have to just figure it out
love how JJ plays with such finesse and so deep. listenin with headphones and loving how he drops it out at :50.... like he just muted his own track- that is just tasty
I can't believe I missed this show. I hope they come back to Houston soon. This the perfect fusion of hip-hop and jazz. Freestyle or written, who cares, this is awesome.
I'm not big on MCs but I do like most of the stuff coming from Mos and I fucking love Glasper and Chris Dave, but what I wanna know is if Mos is actually freestyling here or not. That would be more jazz based if he did a written chorus then freestyled for verses.
@petzaman1 no. it's one offshoot of jazz and jazz isn't relegated to a more hip hop direction in the modern world. a lot more is happening with jazz and some of it is still in the traditional jazz vein and progresses a lot in that direction as well.
its great to hear someone paying homage to black sheep...they are the most overlooked of the Native Tongues Family and one of the most talented...ill song here
Man thas ill that he used the black sheep cover over Thieves in the night...take that black star line, ride on home! Imagine how sick this woulda been wit Talib!!
The Experiment feat. Mos Def @ the Red Cat December 27, Houston, TX. Robert Glasper on keys, Chris Dave on drums, Jon Jon Web on bass, Mos Def on d mic! Classic material! The best musicians of our times on display playing hip hop!
I'm sure everyone out listenin agree that everything you see aint really how it be, lotta jokas out runnin in place chasin the style, a lot goin on beneath that empty smile
So so sick, Rob Glasper has changed my life in a week... I have to agree with Giagetto tho, Mos ain't doin much, but I think he's just appreciating the vibe, trying to flow with it vs trying to shine (or outshine in this case) An understated groove oriented show, would have been awesome to be there!

I love the feeling between Dave and Web. Glad that this is posted here - I missed when Glasper came to NYC Sympony Space, and I've been curious. Hip hop is better with live musicians. I like how Mos Def isn't afraid to quote the older joints - You can git with this, or you can git with that. Sweeeeetness.
Now that's jus' sick.
