In sum, what Gurdjiff was saying, was that everyone, would hold up, be responsible for, their own world and thus the larger world.Government is power. Bullies & psycho's gravitate towards power. And one more thing, detoth67, I don't particularly like this guy Roskam because he and I don't agree on a lot of things and I don't concur with his voting record either. However, I do have an open enough mind that I can actually LISTEN to the very valid & relevant point he is making in this PARTICULAR argument. Can you?
@ detoth67...you haven't figured out yet that this "penalty" and "tax liability" is really nothing more than government theft for noncompliance. Hello?
Ask yourself: "What tools does a government have other than force and theft?" Listen to the REAL question being asked here, detoth, instead of just being obediently compliant. Critical thinking or cognitive dissonance? Which is it?
Sen. Roskam is correct. This bill will make criminals out of poor folks and those who simply don't want to use their money for insurance they don't need. FORCING people to put their money into some bureaucrats pocket is what's criminal! The dums who proposed this are the ones who should be locked up!
The idea is that poor people will have exemptions so they can be part of the government provided plan without having to pay a lot, but they are still required to have a plan. The rich of course will buy their own.
Yes. That is the "idea". Perhaps look more into how this "idea" is implemented and think of potential, logical consequences of such implementation. A good "idea"...is nothing good at all if the implementation of efforts to achieve it are inherently flawed.
Every American should have food. But that doesnt mean the government should dictate to us all what food we can eat, how much of it we can eat, when we can eat it. Your argument is very flawed. The government taking over healthcare (which is what this is and/or leads it) isnt the solution. I doubt the Senate passes a health care reform bill. If they do, it will likely be challenged on Constitutional grounds. The government cant force you to buy a product. Stranger things have happened tho.
Public "option"? To "compete" with private insurers? Its about the same as if one NFL team were allowed to provide all the referees (who are diehard fans of the team of course), and to create all the rules of the game, impose ticket price restrictions on the other teams, restrictions on how much the other teams can charge at their concession, restrictions on how much the other teams can pay players(not themself have none)....then tell the rest of the league....its going to be a fair contest.
you have to criminalize it because the teabaggers are too stupid to notice that it's a good thing. that's the only way you'll get them to pay their fair share.
that is always a problem with cetralized government, people resist because, damnit, they just don't know whats good for them.
((((I have an idea))))) we could have a special police force(call them Khmer Rouge ss or gestapo) round up all the dissidents and lock them up so the rest of us could have our way.
THIS is an effective way to debate something. Finally someone found some sense and read the bill correctly and without much bias. Someone give this man a cookie. Im a democrat and Id like to find out whats in that bill. Democrats wont help me, its up to the republicans but up until now Ive been disappointed with propaganda. If such a thing is in this bill it has to be revised!
It's a legitimate question, don't respond in anger, respond with substance.
The left allegedly cares about the poor and the little guy and this, like our BS war on drugs, will only put more poor people in prison and destroy any hope they had to improve their lot in life.
It's an effort to get rid of the preexisting condition problem. I understand why insurance companies deny preexisting conditions. If they didn't people would just stay uninsured until they got sick/hurt. Once that happens, they would pick up insurance, get nearly free care, then drop it.
The counter is to make sure that everybody is always insured. You can't mandate that it's illegal to deny coverage unless you mandate that it's illegal not to carry coverage.
That doesn't make a lot of sense. Why can you not mandate to gov't-subsidized health insurance companies that they can not deny coverage based on a pre-existing condition without criminalizing those who can not afford coverage?
They are receiving a subsidy from the government, they do not need another subsidy in the form of forced participation. That subsidy is already our money.
In my opinion, just another way to sneakily get more money out of us.
What's your solution to the possibility of people only carrying coverage after they get sick? To me it's a choice. You either have to force people to carry insurance or you have to let companies deny people that pick up insurance after they need it.
If you let people game the system by only carrying it after they get sick the prices will rise for everybody and those that do not game the system get screwed.
My solution is to make all medical costs 100% tax deductible and not throw people in jail, it's not perfect, but people's lives aren't destroyed because they can't afford something. This solution criminalizes the most poor of the poor. A sick person who can't afford this will have their entire life destroyed by being in hoc to the gov't for a quarter million dollars.
It's also not Constitutional to force citizens to buy a product. I'm sure you know that.
Tax deductions do not help the "most poor of the poor". (I do like the idea as a benefit to the middle class.) Also, it doesn't address the possibility of gaming the system to only carry insurance when your sick.
As for it being against the constitution, I'm not a constitutional scholar but until I'm shown otherwise I'm betting it's not mentioned in there.
There is probably a Medicare type solution for the poorest of the poor, since we already have that in place and at least it doesn't further make things worse for poor people.
In regards to the Constitution, it's not in there. That's part of the point--those things that are not specifically outlined in the Constitution are relegated to the states. Yes, the Fed gov does lots of un-Constitutional things, and we should not continue to let it run out of control.
Oh I forgot. I didn't read the version that was passed by the house but there used to be a hardship waiver for the poorest of the poor. I'd guess that it's still in there and Rep. Roskam just ignored it for the purposes of his speech.
If that's the case, then why isn't that mentioned anywhere as a rebuttal? I read up a bit and I can't find anything about it. Would the waiver mean that they go uninsured or would it mean that they wouldn't be fined/jailed? Like I said, I can't find anything about it.
However, even if there is, the bill is still un-Constitutional and lines the pockets of insurance companies. It will not take one dime out of a rich person's pocket.
I ask myself the same question when I write out the checks for my auto insurance here in Georgia...if I don't have any coverage on my car and drive it, I get locked up.
I'm no Republican or Democrat. they're on the same Big Government team. I just want to have freedom of choice in medical decisions, including allowing alternative care and not the government-approved MD monopoly slash, drug, burn, chemical model. so yeah, his question about handcuffs is a very good one.
You are uninformed. Numerous alternative practitioners are disbarred from treating many conditions. Right now Dr. Andrew Weill is being threatened because he promoted astragalus, a traditional herbal remedy. Many natural physicians are persecuted, sellers and producers of herbal products are persecuted, government insurance mandates do not cover natural alternatives. Conventional treatments kill people often. More government in medicine means force, no choice, monopoly, higher prices,
Fake medicine deserves to be highly regulated.... the title of Doctor bestowed upon those who practice rigorous, peer reviewed empirics based research science. Go kill people with your "herbal alternatives" just as the doctors you vilify kill people with unnecessary medicine. We need single-payer health care now, overlooked by an independent agency comprised of top medical professionals independent of hospitals or government staffed positions. An academics review board, if you will.
Medicine at the point of a gun is fake medicine. If narrow government approved modalities are so wonderful, force wouldn't be required to keep the monopolies.
The H1N1vaccine propaganda is a perfect example of government "medicine." NO double-blind tests were performed on the rushed vaccines. No long-term followup of vaccinated people. Babies are shot up with multiple vaccines with no followup. BigPharma is given a pass for their fatal mistakes. Vaccine manufacturers are exempt by law.
that has really nothing to do with funding public health care - that's a practice issue to be taken up with the medical community
I know plenty of doctors who practice both, some remedies are covered others aren't.
Time and study.
Maybe you don't want an x-ray for that big lump in your breast, but most others do and not having health care has hindered people from seeking treatment.
You can still use salve if you want, (still pretty cheap) others want the mammogram or x-ray.
It has everything to do with public funding: from absolute monopolies which only license narrow fields of practice, enforced by fines and arrests if people don't obey, to FDA tyranny and favortism.
Costs rose dramatically AFTER government got into health management. Notice Medicare and Medicaid are broke? People used to deal directly with doctors without middlemen; charitable care was common, even barter. Now it's managed by bureaucrats and unaffordable; and chronic disease is epidemic.
So your story is the poor little government was unwillingly co-opted by the lobbyists? And we need all those noble, supernaturally omniscient bureaucrats to divine what drugs are good -- based on Pharma's own tests? Yes I'll take my chances with charity from neighbors any day instead of totalitarian dictators.
You live in a fantasy believing in benevolent bureaucrat angels who really care about you and aren't lining their pockets and increasing their budgets.
maybe you took a little too much of one of those herbal remedies - you're all over the place - smokin way too much weed me thinks
If you want to ingest you're own feces please knock yourself out, maybe your herbal god or spirit will protect you from what lives in that dark dank Chinese back room where they are prepared the remedies
Here, drink this hemlock, regulators say it'll kill you, but what do they know?
I'm not surprised that you react with violent wishes and thoughts. You and your ilk who want Centralized programs that deny individual choice are so threatened by independent thinking.
OMG, someone who doesn't gulp the establishment line -- arrest them, taze them, jail them, kill them.
It's people like you who cheer and aid tyranny.
And when you run out of your statist arguments your first defense is to try to knock off your opponents with rude comments.
No, my lead is peace toward all, no use of force against non-aggressors. Your philosophy is based entirely on forcing people to do what you want.
I trust common folk who want to peacefully run their own lives over those who lust for power over us. Wars and genocides riddle history because people allow the few tyrants to impose their self-serving goals on others under the disguise of a Big Daddy government that will take care of you; just give up all power to your caretakers, kill dissenters.
And you speak like a person trapped inside a rigid little box. No room for new thoughts, independent ideas. Anything outside your tiny security box sounds scary to you. "you're not wearing a tight box around your brain? You must be crazy!"
no matter what you say or do you can't stop progress - There will be a public option and those 44,000 people who die every year because of your selfishness will have health care and live.
Bullies and tyrants have their day because fools like you support them believing you'll get free stuff.
When it blows up in your face and you find out you're in chains along with all the people whose rights you were eager to trample on, maybe you'll gain a speck of humility and own your complicity with the thugs.
Right now you're stuck believing the government has something to offer other than brute force. True, we who are "selfish" enough to wish freedom will suffer with you who sold out.
Individual Mandate is a bad idea no matter how you spin it.
Almost get the impression that the politicians that are pushing this have a vendetta, Maybe this bill should be labled a hate crime against the public... Just a thought.
No, it is just normal... If you dont have health insurance, you are doomed to use the emergency and have everyone pay for you. You also have the risk to carry a disease for longer than if you had insurance and go see a doctor at the very first sign. If you carry a disease longer, it will have two results : you have more chances to transmit it to more people, your infection will have a higher cost to treat it.
Melpheos1er, Since you have no damn clue who i am i will cut you some slack but not having insurance does not prolong my illness no matter how much you would love for that to be true. I don't take medication i dont go the the hospital for any damn reason, It is a Personal preferance. Don't tell me how to live my life... Last time i checked the United States by definition is still a place of freedom or until the Democrats muck that all up. Don't ever reply to me again sheep.
your freedom ends right at where the others' begins.
It weird. You say that its a place of freedom and just after that you want to put a barrier on my freedom by asking me to not reply. You sounds like a good pro life reublican who wants to prevent aborption (hence want to deprive freedom)...

These assclowns in DC just love stupid bastards like you, because you believe anything they tell you!!!

Wonderfull. Now you want me to believe you have actualy read the bill ?
I bet you'v got your information on this bill from fox news and company...
Guess what, each time Fox News or crazy Bachmann says "the bills says blablabla" i go read the page and most of the time, the bill does not says that...
Do you do the same thing or do you solely rely on Glenn Beck to tell YOU how to think ?
I guess it's the last because you do not seems to have enough patience and intelligence to do the 1st
I'm not even in this debate, but I have to point out that if you are as capable of reading and understanding as you claim I would expect your ability to write to be considerably better than you demonstrate with your posts. Your clear inability to put together a coherent post has completely undermined any credibility you may have had with me.
As for the rest, I offer no argument because I am only now starting to read up on this and have yet to make any decision on my stance.
Both sides are playing for the same team. Republicrats and Democans. Them against the people. Better than the WWE, Now there's $24 TRILLION your kids can handle or great grand kids..When that dollar goes to hell tell me how that's working for ya ?
Those insurance companies are so evil that we should make it illegal to not use them.
So many have suggested Tort reform and legalizing interstate insurance sales which would cost nothing and could be implemented to bring costs down immediately, but for some reason this is ignored.
Anyone who cannot see through the rhetoric into the heart of this bill is blind.
"Now I'm not talking about FIGURATIVE handcuffs, I'm talking about CRIMINAL PENALTIES... which uh, alright, I guess I was being figurative with the handcuffs before. Fuck, I need to rehearse these."
I support the public option, but I STRONGLY OPPOSE criminalization by the individual mandate. It's basically trying to force people to buy a product from the insurance companies, etc.
that won't be in any bill, why the Supreme Court will strike it down. that mandate shit comes from insurance companies. it won't be in there and it will not work because no one would pay the fines. do you see how evil health care insurance companies are yet, they want forced private care and if you can't afford it they want subsidies from the government or you get fined. fuck them public option remember its only an option keep what you have if you like it
LMFAO! You still haven't read it, what do you want ME to read it for you? typical BRAWNDO drinker. ......you still haven't explained how you support a bill and you don't know whats in it.
ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!! it's got what plants crave! first person to get that, great movie huh? so what do you think bout the cominy ? do ya think Prez Mountaindew Chamacho is doing a good job?? lol
Well it passed and you still don't know what is in it!, well your not alone there b/c the 220 asspuppets that voted for it... didn't either! so you are in good company.
Rick Perry already attempted this as governor of Texas. He attempted to compel all girls over the age of 12 to take an anti-HPV vaccine that hadn't even been properly tested when he was trying to pull his ("less government"?) heist of the Texas treasury for the benefit of big pharma.
South - I do not believe we have capatalism in America. What we have seen with the banker bailouts is SOCIALIZATION of the risk aka the tax payers pay. That's not capitalism.
Plus capitalism has not killed hundreds of millions of people like socialism, communism and fascism have.
I call killing hundreds of millions of my fellow human beings bad. What do you call it?
That's where you are wrong. Socialism and Communism killed no one. Dictators did. Socialism is big right now in Europe and they are doing fine. And it isn't pure, as I said. It is a mix, it's called Democratic Socialism. Real big in Scandinavia and it has a proven track record. That would work beautifully here.
The Communist Cultural Revolution Killed 60 plus million Chinese. Stalin's revolution killed around 40 million. Hitler and Mussolini killed around 30 million.
They did not do it by themselves they used the politics of SOCIALISM, COMMUNISM and FASCISM which are closely related ideologies.
The Congress is now passing a hard core socialist eugenics program on all Americans as we speak.
No, as I said, it is in existence now with no problem, in Europe.
It is the dictators that did it. And I am not talking about Communism, it's a stupid idea. I am talking Socialism.
Ask People in Sweden if they think Democratic Socialism is evil, they will laugh at you and say pure capitalism is evil. Take things in moderation and stop calling a system that is working right now better than our own evil.
Socialism of today is nothing like Communist Russia or Nazi Germany. Get it straight.
Hey Southtardgtaca Sweden also uses rabbits for bio fuel, and I'am thinking you should move there and partake of the splendors of being Swedish!! You meatball!!!!!
"It is the dictators that did it. And I am not talking about Communism, it's a stupid idea. I am talking Socialism."
And I am not even talking about "Socialism" as you see it, but as it is today. "Democratic Socialism". It is nothing like what many think of "Socialism".
And they didn't. Dictators did trying to implement the system quickly. If you look at the cause and effect on these instances, you see that in reality the systems never killed anyone. The bad implementation did. Europe seems to have found a good form of "Socialism" ans a good means of implementation. (Democratic Socialism, I am telling you, it is good. Look at Scandinavia.)
well you are half right. Socialism killed no one but communism. I think you have to read the records of people like Castro and Stalin. They did kill people.
@MooseOfReason I live in sweden a contry with socalism as system and that is nothing like communism since you have the right as ex: a doctor to open up a independentent hospital as long as you are qualified (competly independent hospitals are unusual)
but there is also a tax payed healthcare system which essentialy means that doctors are ofered to have their services payed for in tax money essentialy making them employed by the state and this system works. plz reply.
@airborne373 explain why I am conciderd a crimminal in your eyes what is wrong with Swedens political system are I branded a crimminal becuse of my opinion (and no it isn't the same thing as communism) whatever your point is that was a horribel choice of wording.
I will not say that Obamas' ideas are representing what I see as socialism and I do not concider socialism a bad thing tough I have 100% against the so called communism where the state execute anyone with "dangeros ideas".plz reply.

You can't mandate that it's illegal to deny coverage unless you mandate that it's illegal not to carry coverage.
vanguardanon 2 years ago
That doesn't make a lot of sense. Why can you not mandate to gov't-subsidized health insurance companies that they can not deny coverage based on a pre-existing condition without criminalizing those who can not afford coverage?
They are receiving a subsidy from the government, they do not need another subsidy in the form of forced participation. That subsidy is already our money.
In my opinion, just another way to sneakily get more money out of us.
Amy31415 2 years ago
What's your solution to the possibility of people only carrying coverage after they get sick? To me it's a choice. You either have to force people to carry insurance or you have to let companies deny people that pick up insurance after they need it.
If you let people game the system by only carrying it after they get sick the prices will rise for everybody and those that do not game the system get screwed.
vanguardanon 2 years ago
My solution is to make all medical costs 100% tax deductible and not throw people in jail, it's not perfect, but people's lives aren't destroyed because they can't afford something. This solution criminalizes the most poor of the poor. A sick person who can't afford this will have their entire life destroyed by being in hoc to the gov't for a quarter million dollars.
It's also not Constitutional to force citizens to buy a product. I'm sure you know that.
There are better solutions.
Amy31415 2 years ago
Tax deductions do not help the "most poor of the poor". (I do like the idea as a benefit to the middle class.) Also, it doesn't address the possibility of gaming the system to only carry insurance when your sick.
As for it being against the constitution, I'm not a constitutional scholar but until I'm shown otherwise I'm betting it's not mentioned in there.
vanguardanon 2 years ago
There is probably a Medicare type solution for the poorest of the poor, since we already have that in place and at least it doesn't further make things worse for poor people.
In regards to the Constitution, it's not in there. That's part of the point--those things that are not specifically outlined in the Constitution are relegated to the states. Yes, the Fed gov does lots of un-Constitutional things, and we should not continue to let it run out of control.
Amy31415 2 years ago
Oh I forgot. I didn't read the version that was passed by the house but there used to be a hardship waiver for the poorest of the poor. I'd guess that it's still in there and Rep. Roskam just ignored it for the purposes of his speech.
vanguardanon 2 years ago
If that's the case, then why isn't that mentioned anywhere as a rebuttal? I read up a bit and I can't find anything about it. Would the waiver mean that they go uninsured or would it mean that they wouldn't be fined/jailed? Like I said, I can't find anything about it.
However, even if there is, the bill is still un-Constitutional and lines the pockets of insurance companies. It will not take one dime out of a rich person's pocket.
Amy31415 2 years ago
I ask myself the same question when I write out the checks for my auto insurance here in Georgia...if I don't have any coverage on my car and drive it, I get locked up.

when are republicans going to give up their tax payer government health care?
marniespeaks 2 years ago
I'm no Republican or Democrat. they're on the same Big Government team. I just want to have freedom of choice in medical decisions, including allowing alternative care and not the government-approved MD monopoly slash, drug, burn, chemical model. so yeah, his question about handcuffs is a very good one.
leafwatch 2 years ago
who is stopping you? This isn't about practicing medicine this is about saving lives. You can see anyone you want.
marniespeaks 2 years ago 2
You are uninformed. Numerous alternative practitioners are disbarred from treating many conditions. Right now Dr. Andrew Weill is being threatened because he promoted astragalus, a traditional herbal remedy. Many natural physicians are persecuted, sellers and producers of herbal products are persecuted, government insurance mandates do not cover natural alternatives. Conventional treatments kill people often. More government in medicine means force, no choice, monopoly, higher prices,
leafwatch 2 years ago
Fake medicine deserves to be highly regulated.... the title of Doctor bestowed upon those who practice rigorous, peer reviewed empirics based research science. Go kill people with your "herbal alternatives" just as the doctors you vilify kill people with unnecessary medicine. We need single-payer health care now, overlooked by an independent agency comprised of top medical professionals independent of hospitals or government staffed positions. An academics review board, if you will.
blackpyr 2 years ago 2
Medicine at the point of a gun is fake medicine. If narrow government approved modalities are so wonderful, force wouldn't be required to keep the monopolies.
The H1N1vaccine propaganda is a perfect example of government "medicine." NO double-blind tests were performed on the rushed vaccines. No long-term followup of vaccinated people. Babies are shot up with multiple vaccines with no followup. BigPharma is given a pass for their fatal mistakes. Vaccine manufacturers are exempt by law.

very good start - and also get rid of corporate personhood - put a lobbyist out of business
good for the country
marniespeaks 2 years ago 3
that has really nothing to do with funding public health care - that's a practice issue to be taken up with the medical community
I know plenty of doctors who practice both, some remedies are covered others aren't.
Time and study.
Maybe you don't want an x-ray for that big lump in your breast, but most others do and not having health care has hindered people from seeking treatment.
You can still use salve if you want, (still pretty cheap) others want the mammogram or x-ray.
marniespeaks 2 years ago
It has everything to do with public funding: from absolute monopolies which only license narrow fields of practice, enforced by fines and arrests if people don't obey, to FDA tyranny and favortism.
Costs rose dramatically AFTER government got into health management. Notice Medicare and Medicaid are broke? People used to deal directly with doctors without middlemen; charitable care was common, even barter. Now it's managed by bureaucrats and unaffordable; and chronic disease is epidemic.
leafwatch 2 years ago
Who's going to monitor drugs, be it natural or synthetic? You?
COST: Only because government was co-oped by private insurance lobbys. Step back a bit, get rid of corporate personhood first
Further private Insurance & care went up because private admin fees r over 20% - the VA is 3%
CHARITY: with modern advances you want charitable service for 45 million people? r u nuts?
Stop living in the past, catch up with the world of modern science, which btw ur tax payer dollars funded & cured ur mom
marniespeaks 2 years ago 4
So your story is the poor little government was unwillingly co-opted by the lobbyists? And we need all those noble, supernaturally omniscient bureaucrats to divine what drugs are good -- based on Pharma's own tests? Yes I'll take my chances with charity from neighbors any day instead of totalitarian dictators.
You live in a fantasy believing in benevolent bureaucrat angels who really care about you and aren't lining their pockets and increasing their budgets.
This country is broke. Wake up.

Those insurance companies are so evil that we should make it illegal to not use them.
So many have suggested Tort reform and legalizing interstate insurance sales which would cost nothing and could be implemented to bring costs down immediately, but for some reason this is ignored.

The reason you have to coax people into a plan is because people, especially young ones, believe they are invincible or theyhave no care in the world
They believe things wont ever happen to them
How many go drunk driving thinking they wont crash, they wont kill somebody else
How many do heavy drugs thinking they wont overdose
Binge drink thinking they wont die from it

Socialism for health and education and things that are already socialised (police, fire, etc.), everything else Capitalist.

airborne373 2 years ago 3
That's where you are wrong. Socialism and Communism killed no one. Dictators did. Socialism is big right now in Europe and they are doing fine. And it isn't pure, as I said. The Congress is now passing a hard core socialist eugenics program on all Americans as we speak.

No, as I said, it is in existence now with no problem, in Europe.
It is the dictators that did it. And I am not talking about Communism, it's a stupid idea. I am talking Socialism.
