In Memories of our beloved brother Charles C. McKinney Jr. 2011
you are really miss our heart long to see you again, But we know god know's best, He had a greater plan for your life than we could see. bro, You rest we will be seeing you, we will always miss & love you,
WHEN I HERE THIS SONG I WANT TO GO TO THE RIVER TO BE BAPTISTIZED PRAISE GOD THANKS MRS.NORWOOD. SANG THAT IT'S A TRUE SONG IT MAKE ME THINK ABOUT WERE WE'VE COME FROM AS BLACK PEOPLE AND HOW FAR WE'VE COME THANK YOU LORD
I heard James Cleveland do a version of "Down To The River" in the late 60's or early70's. I have been lokking for his version for a long time. It had an awsome B3 Organ part in it. Anyone know where it can be found?
Aug 24-09: Today is the first time I've ever heard Dorothy Norwood, The way she tells life stories through her music is more than a song, I' am so moved by her energy & love she has for God. I' am currently going through a spiritual battle, but hearing Dorothy today truly made me smile. I was told the minute I except Jesus, it dosen't get any easier. Im holding on to Jerimiah 29:11, John 15. These verses give me hope, but it's so hard. I feel so empty!
Hold on God will never leave you or Forsake you. I know how you feel. I have felt many empty days but I fill them with the Word of GOD. Hold on and keep the Faith. Listening to Gospel music is also fulfillng and based on the Word
Yeah, I remember the version of this song by Maggie Ingram & the Ingramettes. Does anyone have that song by Dorothy Norwood called "The Rich Fool" (I think that's the title of the song)? It says something about "thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee for building your treasures here on earth..."
I've heard of Maggie Ingram before, but I've never heard her version of the song.
Also, there are a few other people from that same time period who have recorded this song, like Mahalia Jackson, Cleophus Robinson, and Bessie Griffin, among a few others. I like Dorothy's version a little more though!
I see why this one of your favorites, she sangin this "Jesus, none but the righteous shall see God". Yes Lawd! and that piana, not piano but piana lol was being played. Great post man.

She still sounds the same. You know she's always got to tell everyone that she's from Atlan-TA Georgia, LOL.

I love it that she likes to pronounce that T so hard....Almost like she's from my home state of Minnesota, where they do the same with those 'T's...
