I saw the movie before reading the book and thought it was decent. I never really thought of comparing it to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. THEN, I read the book and I was all like, "Wow, that movie SUCKED!!!" So yeah...
And one more thing: Before I saw the movie trailers, I thought the name of the book was pronounced EE-Ra-gon.
the movie sucked but the book was really good, and if you notice he is going through like 4 movies and books so its not like he just copied it, besides almost all movies copy off each other now a days.
Hahaha, I fully agree ! Masterpiece of our century ! ;-))) The novels were mediocre by far, so only a naive person would believe, that the film version will be as good or even better... ;-)
I loved the book. Considering the kid who wrote it was a teenage boy, I'm surprised it wasn't just LOTR with the names changed. Most of my guy friends can't write for their lives, so I'm (pleasantly) amazed that Paolini's work was so good. And slimeonthedimes, if you didn't like the book, you probably should stay away from fantasy books in general, since they're obviously not your style.
If you thought the book was good, you know absolutely nothing of what "good" is.
I don't care how your friends write. It does not excuse Paolini's terrible writing.
As for the Age Debate, he may have STARTED Eragon when he was fifteen, but it got published much, much later. Notice then that when he wrote Eldest and Brinsigr, which were arguably worse, he wasn't a "teenage boy" anymore, he was in his twenties.
As for Lord of the Rings, it's a compilation of Nordic legends that were featured in stories long before Lord of the Rings. Like Wagner's Ring Cycle. It's the staple fantasy work because it's what got popular, and went on to inspire things like Harry Potter and the Pern series, which all use fantasy elements drawn from LotR.
It's worth pointing out that for all that Eragon is inspired by Star Wars (and it is), the same is equally true of Star Wars being extremely inspired by Dune, and you could draw an equally long list of similarities between the two.
Lol and also that dragonriders (jedis) have been completely destroyed though there are a couple left, like the hermit that Eragon/Luke find. And then theres also Yoda/Oromis, the OTHER teacher that teaches them later
LMAO. I like the eragon and eldest books, but that review was fucking hilarious. You sir are Godly. But yeah when people don't think the plot of this book is similar to star wars, they are delusional.
No, he started writing it when he was 15 - the author's note/credits/whatever in the back of the book tells you this. It took him a few years to complete, though, so you're probably technically right.
Eragon and Eldest aren't the worst fantasy books...I own 'em, but I haven't read 'em; I'm too busy making rolling papers out of them, LOPOOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! This series=failget! Only noobs hold this series with critical acclaim and at a ridiculously high level of esteem.
Hahahaha, this is great.
Thank you so much.
The movie SUCKED.

With in 15 minutes of the Eragon movie you'll notice the rip off of both LOTR and Star Wars.
CyberShot001 4 years ago 3
Aragorn...
But Eragon.
He just spelled Dragon with an E instead....
The book is better definately. But it is kind of... star wars-ish
