It's been 20 years since I saw this but it's always stayed with me. Thanks for uploading it, I like to think that these ads played some part in saving lives.
Senior Harvard AIDS Prevention Researcher Dr. Edward Green
According to Dr. Green, science is finding that the media is actually on the wrong side of the issue. In fact, Green says that not only do condoms not work, but that they may be exacerbating the problem in Africa.
Dr. Green found that part of the elusive reason is a phenomenon known as Risk Compensation or Behavioral Disinhibition.
Yes, but he's one of the relatively few doctors who feel this way. The current general consensus amongst the World Health Organization (WHO) is that condoms, when used properly, greatly reduces the risk of transmission, although it does not completely eliminate the possibility.
Well, abstaining is still the only 100% way to make sure one doesn't get STDs, though condoms have almost that high a success rate. Just so you know, I'm not abstinence-only because that won't work. (Religious conservatives are actually more likely to not use condoms and other contraceptives and become pregnant than non-religious liberals.)
And about the Jonas Brother's purity rings, let's just see how well they do. I don't think they're going to stick to their commitment.
This commercial reminds me of another commercial I saw. Maybe It's me but all I can remember is that there was a couple at a beach at night, I didn't get the point of the ad because I was 5 years old back then in 1992. Probably it was related to this one but the last thing I saw was the Ad Council logo at the end. If its on You Tube I would like to see it.
I think it's pretty sad how people manage to convince themselves (in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary) that they're bulletproof and making a small effort to protect themselves isn't "macho". This commercial tells it like it is. Thanks for uploading.
I remember this one. What's weird is I remember thinking it was an anti-drug commercial and that the guy's brother said that drugs made him macho. It was a long time ago that I saw it though. (I was 4 in '88)
very inspiring.

Correct..I hate to say it but I think that too many people rely just on the bill for birth control and don't think about disease prevention.

the way i see it is that if you dont know the person well enough to know if they have aids or not then you shouldnt have sex with them
scrfce454 3 years ago
The problem is that you might get AIDS from someone you think you know well.
