I started my VG playing on the Sega Saturn. I loved this system. Still lament it's passing. I played almost all titles but this one I never did. Always wanted to. Well Ebay here I come
This game just made me FEEL despair. One hit kills, limited ammo, limited saves(a battery that can never be recharged) absolute silence followed by loud horrific screeching/noises, accompanied with very intelligent/logic based puzzles. It's a rare treat for a GAME to make you feel like there's no hope in surviving. It's really meant for hardcore gamers... but it was an exhilarating experience.
A game with an atmosphere of incredible tension .... who played know the despair that is finding an enemy through the halls of the scenery ... Survival of the best in the genre. Good times!
The only games comparable with this, are D and D2 (They both star the same character as Enemy Zero),Fatal Frame,Call of Cthulhu:Dark Corners Of The Earth (Your guy will actually try to shoot himself if he gets to creeped out),and LSD:The Dream Simulator for PS1.(It has NOTHING to do with the drug, though the game is the weirdest and most bizarre of the ones I've mentioned, since everything including the area textures and scares are random.)
Oh wow memories. I always got stuck at the very end. That piano thing to decipher the monsters location was awesome. This was my first survival horror game I ever played
@derBene It's an alarm sound actually, one that sounds when the enemy is real close to you. Laura doesn't ever moan when in the FPS parts (no point to it since you are killed just as you are reached by an enemy). She does that only in the CGI cutscenes and when she cries and else.
Which is a great thing. Too often these days games are far to easy that you don't reallly feel your getting your money's worth. Enemy Zero was a man sized challenged. Once you learnt the technique its not hard at all. But keep yoyr nerve is very hard indeed. This game still scares me at night.
i remember this game wen i was little i have never owen i saturn back in those days i got a ps1 insted but i have heard about this game that it's one of the scaryest game ever released on the saturn actully i have heard most people have played it got nightmare at night and they take a long time to go back and touch there saturn.
At one point my hands were shaking I was so nervous when I played this. You could only load the game a limited number of times, I got right to the end, where the bleeping stops and a guy tells you where the monster is instead, and died and ran out of loads. This is the first time I have seen the ending...
Man, this was the most amazing game I ever played on a Sega Saturn.
I remember, my English wasnt so good at that time and the final scene when someone (cant remember who) give you instructions, I just got crazy, but with a good luck and a thousand tries, I did ! :-)
Can you remember, you are not allowed to save when you are trying to kill an enemy lol :-)
is there an emulator for the sega saturn?? i would love to have the japanese version of the game. the volice acting in japanese seems to give the game a more realistic feel
Kenji Eno sure made games that were ahead of their time. I'm sure if D2 and Enemy Zero were re-released and updated (skippable cut scenes, graphics) for the Wii(motion controls and IR for shooting accuracy). It would sell much better than the Sega days.
This game had such a brilliant concept but ended up being really flawed...
The amount the camera bobbed while you were walking or running was excessive and made it feel like you were a volleyball bouncing though a hallway. Almost every hallway in the FPS sections looked the same and it was too damn easy to get lost, especially in the ventilation system which was a frikkin' nightmare to go through. etc, etc etc.
I really wanted to enjoy the game, too. It sounded so cool.
I knew D2 borrowed a few characters from this game, but...they borrowed THAT scene, too? I heard the ultra suggestive tentacle scene in D2 was cut, but the video might still be at IGN.

This is one of the worst games I played.
About everything sucks: idiot saving system, stupid weapons and ultra slow gameplay. Not to mention the boring level design with miles of empty hallways.
thankyou for sharing this precious clip, it makes me remember the good games from 90's. When I was playing this game, the most annoying is not the limited amount of saving slot or the invisible enemy that approach suddenly upon you, but the disturbing beeping noise makes my mind go nuts.
Somebody please tell me what's the purpose of having an emergency escape tunnel that's longer than the total length of the ship itself...Cripes, she must have gone around and around and around a million times before she got out!
The Saturn ripped the PSX a new one on the hardware front. Just the facts. While the PSuX could do better 3D, the Saturn was a 2D monster with way better movies and cut-scenes.
Warmachine300 the saturn could do better graphics than the play station because it had 3 CPU's in ot and a faster GPU that the Playstation but the saturn was very hard to program for thats why there was not as menty games on the system
Well, apart from wanting quality, not quantity, the main guy (forgot his name) felt he had done what he wanted in video games and moved on to other art media. But perhaps they are just waiting for inspiration in vgs.
Ahh I still have this beauty and play it every now and then. I remember showing my friend how to play it and him throwing the controller once he got killed. The intense dinging got to him..haha!
@ashwath123 Most of the game is just CGI rendering, pure video. Only the parts with corridors and hallways involving running and shooting are displayed by the Sega Saturn in real time.

The game is well made, just too much like Aliens for me.

@AxeBlack84 I'd say its more like Alien than Aliens.
It has the creepy atmosphere of Alien, as well as the sense of claustrophobia.

Still, interesting game :)

This still scares me now, about 12 years after I last played it. Seriously the scariest, spookiest game of ALL time.
