  • Big ben is the bell

  • also if you read its history the bell has cracked many times they had to replace thats not the old sound the old sound IS MUCH DIFFRENCE

  • WHY THE **** DO PEOPLE GET IT WRONG BIG BEN IS THE BELL the tower itself is just named after the person who desgined it

  • @MagpieEpicdude No it's not, it's called St Stephen's Tower, and the whole thing was designed by Pugin.

  • Imagine how the guy who built this felt when they invented the watch.

  • @leafblight27 Not too peeved. It's there as a national symbol, not just for function.

  • @leafblight27 The watch was invented in the 15th Century, the tower with big ben was erected in 1859

  • @shiptech2k9 ask how many fucks I give.

  • @leafblight27 I already know, a lot

  • @shiptech2k9 nope.avi

  • Imagine, those bells have been heard for centuries.

  • @Zizumia1 Not exactly. It's 150th anniversary was only celebrated in May 2009.

  • @troshs "O God keep safe our Queen Victoria the First"

  • @ni4221 thank you so much! awesome!

  • @troshs Oh Lord keep safe our Queen Victoria the first.

  • denn hab ich schon in echt gesehen :DDD

  • Big ben was originally the nick-name for bell, but the name Big Ben is now associated with the clock tower. Theres no law against calling it Big Ben. If people want to call it that let them. I do, more of a "ring" to it than "St. Stephen's tower". ;)

  • Big ben is a clock TOWER

  • The clock tower is not called St. Stephens tower its actually just known as The Clock Tower. 'ref. Stephen Fry 'on 'Robert Llwellyns Car Pool' podcast. And he knows everything!!!!

  • i love the big ben

  • Houses of Parliment = Entire Building

St. Stephen's Tower = Clock Tower

    Westminster Clock = Entire Clock

    Big Ben = Largest Bell

  • The second it started ringing my watch alarm went off O.o

  • @waypastthat They talk to each other

  • the twelve o´clock ,in the big benis a magic moment , thanks for this moment its very good

  • the twelve o´clock ,in the big benis a magic moment , thanks for this moment

  • We got a life size replica of this clock in our living room !!

  • @grooverheliboy uhh thats hard to believe i dont think its life size as

The tower is 96.3 metres (315.9 ft) high, 15 meters wide. It is the world's largest four-faced, chiming turret clock.I doubt that would fit in your living room

  • @landof101dreams As I live 10 minutes away from Big Ben I am well aware of its dimensions.

My previous comment was posted AS A JOKE!! Duuuuh

  • @grooverheliboy gd for u, i know where u live! :D and i was also aware it was a joke but had to inform you, as some people really are stupid and would think a piggy bank would be the right dimensions, glad your not dumb :)

  • @landof101dreams Well I guess that makes 2 of us then !! :>))))

  • @pettersson240 I think that is terrible what you have written. I myself do not believe it but people who are influenced easily probably would. I would like to say that what you have typed is very childish and the fact that you compared this to the horrible twin tower incident is just insane. so please delete you comment.

  • @pettersson240 well I wouldnt expect anything but stupidity coming from a hurdy nurdy cunt from shitty SWEDEN........THE SHIT HOLE OF EUROPE !!

  • I remember me and some friends visited london one time over the summer. My friend asked me what time it was, then the bell rang and I told her "It sounds like noon."

  • Big ben is the Bell inside the tower which is called St Stephens Tower

  • It's such a beautiful clock because of its chimes, design and character.

  • nice try from street level

  • Why the hell can't they design things as nice as this these days? The Westminster clock tower has to be one of the best of it's kind.

  • Every time It bongs I think of everything that reminds me of london like the taxis and red buses

  • i used to "sing" this meoldy..i never heard it before..

my colleague @ work was pretty surprised "u've been in london humm..?" "ää..no?!"

    :D

  • Q. what the difference between a man that robs 40k from a bank, and David Laws MP?

    A. One sits in a prison cell whilst the other stands at the despatch box in Westminster

  • @Tennessee44444

I feel sorry for people like you!

  • @Tennessee44444 Yankees don't even have a history... your buildings are mere imitations of others... Sorry for thee, US citizen from the British States of America...

  • @Tennessee44444 At least it isn't full of obese war mongers like yourself.

  • Bring Them Back - English Version

  • I WILL see this with my own eyes before I die ! I'm telling you world!

  • @Pattonfrodo

You better do it, i arrived from london about 4 hours ago and i watched big ben for the 2nd time and it s much more beautiful than in the videos. You gotta see with your own eyes, it s completely different! Good luck.

  • helo fellos i have herd thare is a Big Bun in london, its so big, but its not allow to eat it,

Only the queen can eat it. Is it true. Can we not enjoy like with tea, a little peice of the Bun.

  • mmmm this isbeatiful sight but quality is low

  • The main bell for the hour doesn't even sound like a bell... It sounds kind of demonic. I love it.

  • on wikipedia it says it used to have a 24 hour clock

  • it has a small one inside , but it is in the main mechanism room

  • I love the westminster chime...beautiful!

  • thnkks for the vid

  • que sonido mas agradable me encanta londres

  • "This...is London."

  • and now to our London Bureau, here is Edward R Murrow:

  • 150 year thats about (54750 day).woow congratulations London best luck to the 1000 year (^_^)

  • Hi,can anyone tell me does it ring loud?I will go to London in a mounth and I will stay in a area near the Big Ben,and I was wondering because i have hyperacusis :) (fear of sound). Thanks

  • Yeah, it's pretty loud. I've not stood next to it, but you can hear it from around london (Whitehall was where I was) clearly.

  • it's pretty loud if u stay next to it.

    but nothing u couldnt withstand

  • wat does twelve mean

  • did you fail to see the obvious

    (reply to doublekickster12)

  • It means one less than thirteen.

  • I saw big Ben when I went to London.

  • whats the tune called

  • west minster chimes

  • its known as the westminster chime, although it actually is called the Cambridge Chime, as it was first rung in Great St Mary's, Cambridge

  • i'm going next august. can't wait!!!!!!!!

  • I helped Augustic Pugin design Big Ben. We then had a London Pride in Annies Bar.

  • The sound of London;

  • That's quite a soothing sound, especially in contrast to all the hustle and bustle.

  • i have been inside the great clock tower and big ben( the bell) is HUGE IT WAS LIKE 10x THE SIZE OF ME!

  • lool .. it sure is grand :P

  • what how?

  • u can still hear the bell over all the noise of the modern city.

  • Ahhh, music to my ears, especially when I watch it in high-quality mode. I love the Great Clock and the sounds of the Big Ben bell.

I am also a fan of the photos taken from inside the clock tower, provided by UK Parliament on the Flickr website. Most of them are extremely high-res, and HUGE in file and pixel size. The clarity, though, is not all that great on some of the shots.

I'd love to go to London someday, though I doubt if I could ever afford the trip.

  • Yes, it's the first stroke after the melody. Otherwise at 12pm the clock would have to start chiming about a minute and a half before the hour!

  • He he, it was not until my trip to London that I realized where my Grandmother's doorbell chime comes from. She enjoyed finding out that it comes from Big Ben! That was a fantastic trip. I'm going back as soon as I can ;)

  • How much does it cost to fly to London these days? Probably a lot more than I'll ever be able to afford.

But seeing the Great Clock and hearing Big Ben in person would be a once-in-a-lifetime event for me.

  • まんま学校や会社のチャイム。社会人にとってせっかくの休暇を利用した旅行も、このメロディーは現実に引き戻されます(笑)

  • our school bell has this melody ^^

  • Notice that the chime starts at 11:59 and the first stroke of Big Ben actually marks the hour.

  • its actually the last stroke

  • It's the first stroke, as practised on New Years Eve.

  • I love this clock!

  • How beautiful, it brings a lump to my throat! The most impressive clock and bell in the world!

  • wow... i am... i just... wow... so beautiful...

  • I love London, i am going to move there one day!

  • Well, I hope you feel happy there. I have always wanted to move to Chicago because I would feel a lot safer there than in Madison, WI (i.e., where I live right now if not elsewhere yet).

  • Big Ben's not a clock, it's a bell.

  • big ben the nick name of the great bell

  • @162ALAN162 Yeah true it's the name of the bell, but the name can also refer to the clock and the tower as well. According to wikipedia.

  • @brats817 "According to Wikipedia." Wikipedia says a lot of things, many of them questionable.

Big Ben is the nickname given to the Great Bell, the tower is called the Clock Tower, nicknamed St. Stephen's Tower, and the clock is called the Great Clock. This is general knowledge but if you require a source it's all on Parliament's website.

  • @162ALAN162 I see. That is interesting info. I've never heard them referred to by those names. Most people and media I hear even called the tower and the clock as "Big Ben" too they must not be very knowledgable. XD

  • @brats817 Yes, it's quite common to call it all "Big Ben", but it's wrong. It's one of those common misconceptions. Like saying "pronounciation", I suppose.

  • @162ALAN162 Yes true. Lots of people use "incorrect" terms to refer to things. Like calling a tsunami a "tidal wave" is wrong because it has nothing to do with the tide at all. XD

  • @162ALAN162 I'm sure most people know that, but it takes less time to say than "Westminster Tower"

  • @162ALAN162 Its a clock tower.....

  • @GameTrailersHD1 Bet you love shoving it right up yer shit pipe.

  • Stupid arrogant american thinking you know all.

    Big Ben is a bell...

  • It was a joke. I was not trying to be a know it all, I was joking around.

  • If so I'll have to forgive you ;)

    would you forgive me also?

  • i will indeed

  • explended

  • pity the noise of the traffic is blocking the sound of the bells, but a very nice scene of big ben.

  • i heard thunder in the background

  • the trafic is very noisy.

  • Breathtaking!

  • big ben is truly britain's best landmark

  • hje
