i found a Samoyed on the streets I was 9 yrs old and he was about 1 or 2, i was riding my bike and he started to fallow me so brough him home and since then he was like my shadow, my buddy, almost like another brother but he died about 8 yrs later and i was so so so sad, but at the same time happy because i know he left happy.

I just wanted you to know that Misha saved my life today, or at least my brain! Five minutes ago I accidentally opened a REALLY DISTURBING image -- I'll spare you the details -- and as a half-joke to my roommates I went "OMG NEED TO SEE HAPPY PUPPIES _NOW_."

you must always have to wash your dog with such a white fur...

You know, Samoyeds stay surprising clean. I only have to wash him every three months or so. It 's the brushing that's killer. Constant grooming, or the coat will mat. I brush him myself, and put the fur out for the birds to take for nesting material. They love it!

Where do u live? I mean Samoyeds like cold weather and how is it in your place? I am thinking of getting one but i am not sure because of the weather i live in. I always have the AC on and its always cold in our house tho. I also have a male golden and having a female sammy would be great what do u say?

We're in Southern California, but our breeder was in Phoenix AZ. They seem to be able to handle warm weather well. When it's really hot, Misha stays inside with me in the AC, but doesn't seem to mind going out. I've been told the coat insulates them from heat as well as cold. If I touch his skin on a hot day, it is actually cool underneath the fur. Our vet advised against shaving for the summer, as the coat doesn't always grow back properly after being shaved.

They are definitely high energy dogs. I think you could have one in an apartment, but would need to walk him a LOT, give him plenty of exercise, trips to dog park, etc.

I have been blessed to have 3 in my life so far..all have been rescued. My first was a puppy mill mom who I only had for 16 months, she was so over bred she got "breast" cancer and I could not save her. The second was Raja and he died from complications of diabetes..he was 90lbs when I got him! Now I have jack who is 3 and is a darling and so smart. They are such wonderful dogs and great companions.

Sammie works :) It's a very common shorter term. Or Sam-oy-ed. Although all over pronunciation is different so you'd probably be fine. :)

Sammies are working dogs. i heard that working dogs are very independent, and need lots of attentions, otherwise they are destructive. Is that true? my friend has a husky which is a working dog, and he is very destructive. I love to have a sammie, but afraid that i can't handle them

Yes, it is totally true. But if a Samoyed has enough physical any psychical activities, he can be a great companion dog. So, if you don't have enough time, choose another breed or don't even buy a dog. And good luck!

He is beautiful. We just lost our girl Samoyed, First Autumn Snow a/k/a Snowy. She became a diabetic, blind, had cataract surgery, got breast cancer, ruptured before surgery could be performed and never recovered. She was very much loved and is missed.

I had to diagnose Snowy on my own. He was saying she had Rocky Mountain Tick Fever. I research the internet and ask that he check her blood sugar level. And sure enough, she was a diabetic. That taught me to research on my own, don't take anyone's word on it. Thanks for the encouragement!
