No american car will come close? I can name three. The '08 Viper (600 HP), a stock Z06 will run all day with that car, and an S7 would embarass that car. (FYI) Nothing against euro cars, I love'em, but American cars hold their own for way less money and sweet sounding exhausts.

the r8 is starting with the 4.2 liter v8 from the audi rs4 putting out 420 HP on all 4 wheels.

the v10 will have around 550 HP and will be launched including the new LED Headlights around middle of 2007.

also. audi doesnt own vw, vw owns audi. porsche owns around 39% of vw.

Looks like a nice car. The V8 from the RS4 isn't enough for this car though . The V10 was the way to go, but then that puts the car in another class. Anyhow, price range-wise, the Audi R8 is affordable. Nice and cheap car. The Carrera GT is the medium priced, while the Enzo is a little expensive. What more can you want? You basically get what you pay for. It's just that some things are worth getting more than others. Anyhow, if you are really looking for a car to tune, try an NSX-R :).

First of all, Audi owns, yes literally OWNS Lamborghini. It also bought VW out quite sometime ago, and added MG to its collection. I think to be able to create supercars like Lamborghini, Audi does have technology. Combining fuel efficiency, power, and handling gave birth to the Audi R8. Nuff said.

Hmmm...all I am saying is that the R8 is nasty! You can get it in a V8 for like 70K with 450HP and they have a v10 for 120K with 610HP....neither of them I can afford, but the car is ground breaking for its style and race aspects. A one of a kind that no one can touch as far as performance and power for the price. Quattro will conquer all!! Victory!!
