  • I'm thinking you might hold the camera steady instead of trying to follow the plane ??

  • Going see how it;s done northern cal soon looks like fun

  • What is it?

  • @musiceuphony

This is a 100" wingspan radio controlled glider (no motor) called the Kinetic doing a type of flying known as dynamic soaring at 392mph. The new record speed is 468mph. You can find that video here on youtube also if you search '468mph'.

  • Sounds like a crow who keeps swooping on me.

  • Incredible. Certainly doesn't look real - but it is, and more - the world record is now 468mph according to Wikipedia. There's something slightly nauseating about its speed - my brain just can't process it :S

  • I see nothing

  • The worlds fastest rc plane has no engine kinda sad.

  • Who would have thought that the world's fastest rc plane would be a glider? It's pretty incredible - you guys must really keep these planes in top condition and have nerves of steel. Thanks for sharing.

  • 目が追いつきません・・・

  • it needs to be covered in tin foil

  • Is there such thing as a cheap thing like this? But I do want it to have good "handling" I guess you could call it as well. I'm sure getting hit buy something like this would easily kill me.

  • you need to put a little camera on it and put that on youtube sick!!

  • @fatqwert200

See the last of my videos for some on-board DS footage...

  • I didn't see anything that indicates the speed is in mph.

  • @Spashdown

We had (3) guns on the hill that day and they were all set to mph and all in good agreement. I'm 100% certain the settings were correct. Old news now anyway, search 446mph (yes, mph...) on youtube for video of the current record flight.

  • wow you dont want that thing hitting you!!

  • i have calculated 40-45G from the video with around 2.5rad/s and 70m radius if the speed in the video is 392mph(175m/s).still incredible =)

  • doesnt float my boat this kinda sloping but still cool

  • HOW?!?!?!

  • mind blowing. I built and flew a Wanderer when I was a kid. flew great, but this.. this is flying

  • maybe 392 KPH

  • That's 630 kph, for the rest of the world.

Always baffles me how American engineers still won't use SI.

  • wheres the slo mo button

  • What servos are being used? i want some!

  • @paulkazjack

I'm using JR DS3421 and DS9411 servos with a 3rd external bearing to help take the loads

  • @sll914 Thanks. Hey wish i was there to see 392mph oh and hear it too.!

  • @sll914

Hey, you should make a video of the plane sitting on a table, just so people can get a good upclose view of the whole thing...

I'm very interested (and I'm sure many other enthusiasts are too) in its design!

Thanks for the vids, very cool by the way..and I usually don't thank people for posting vids haha.

    So..THANKS! =b

  • @sll914 Wheww thats good to know. I would hate to be behind that radar gun knowing that the glider was full of Parkzones or Towerpro's :)

  • @Blaze1024 wow thats a scary thought,EEKK

  • Looks almost fake. ; )

  • I remember when Joe Wurts was describing DS in a video I remember him describing his calculations for DS and saying that something in 500 mph range was possible. I questioned that but I knew Joe was a very smart man but I just could wrap my head around it.

  • amazing little plane, how can it handle so many Gs!

  • @keeevan

    Lots of carbon!

Come back in a couple days to see a new video of the new record 446mph run!

  • @sll914 will do. you guys should strap a video cam to it and see what it looks like

  • @sll914

OK, the new video is up. Search 446mph here on Youtube and its the first one to come up. Posted by Daemn42

  • fastest ive ever gone is about forty with my weasle evo at daves beach THIS IS MADNESS!

  • wow. Talk about reaction time. At almost 400mph you have like 1/10 of a second to react if the glider dips a wing. I never thought I'd say these two words together, but that is some hardcore gliding.

  • i have a easy e.p foam glider & this is like gliders on steroids , amazingly wonderful

  • holy shit you would definetely die if that hit you

  • OMG. why dont ppl keep the damn camera still !!!

  • @ddavis510

This was filmed at Weldon, CA.

  • What are the G forces those gliders are having to endure?

  • @xoio

We have calculated around 50G continuous and up to 70G max!

  • @sll914

    That is just crazy!! LOL

And just how the heck do you 'calm down; the plane out of those kind of manouevres so you can land?

  • @sll914 I'd like to see your calculations. Seems to me around 20 G. How big is the radius of the circle? 100 meters?

  • @sll914 pfff, I could handle 70G if I was sittin in that plane...

  • What's the price of that plane?

  • @maw28gizmo

The Kinetic sells for $2,900. You can see more at DSKinetic dot c o m

  • what's the price of that plane (ready to fly)?

  • why are there 5 dislikes? wtf?

  • A plus from me !

  • How in the world do you stop one of those puppies when your finished?

  • @mattrjim Stop flying in circles and randomly fly around until the plane has slowed down enough. Then just do a belly landing :)

  • I wish I could do DS here at Germany. It must be the most fun!

    Very nice :)

  • Yeap "au natural" the terminal velocity of those babies is pretty high...

  • i dont wana get that thing in my eye.

  • 357...MAGNUM!!

  • OH GET A LIFE LOSERS

  • One way of imagining it: every time it comes around into the rising air, the glider adds a few degrees to a "virtual" dive. Every time it passes into calm air on the lee side, it converts the altitude boost into additional velocity. It's essential that it pass into relatively calm air, otherwise it would just go up and up. As it emerges back into the lift zone, it's still in a diving attitude. After several revolutions, it's as if it's diving far past vertical- even past terminal velocity.

  • I guess it's understandable that people who don't know anything about this would think it's fake. It's f...ing amazing speeds, and not immediately obvious to people how it works.

  • Things have come a long way since the sheet balsa chuck glider :)

  • THIS JUST IN!!! John Buxton has just upped the world record to 445mph flying the KENETIC 100. (5-21-2010)

  • THIS JUST IN!!!!!! 5-21-2010 John Buxton has set a new world record of 445mph flying a KINETIC 100 !

  • That is bloody scary fast! I have never even heard of this, which kind of engine or thrust is being used?

  • @HyperColours

No engine or thrust is being used, only a clever manipulation of wind and gravity! Thats the simple beauty of Dynamic Soaring. If you are interested in it, you really should give it a go, it's hands down the most fun you can have with an RC airplane!

The new record is 428mph set again by the 100" Kinetic DP.

  • The more you say its fake is the more we get entertainment. Because it shows how ignorant and dumbass you are. Yes, its a hobby you dont know nothing about. Hahahahaha!

  • @h2oreactor Get up him mate lol

    Long live DS

  • The more you say its fake is the more we get entertainment. Because it shows how ignorant and dumbass you are. Hahahahaha!

  • FAKE - only kidding just seems to be the theme most kids write on Youtube.

Nice work Guys, exceptional speed. Better check the Kinetic for stress after those runs.

  • This is faster than bugatti veyron

  • @cybertron1000s That's more than 100 mph than a Veyron

  • In the start i thought it was a real glider plane, until i saw the RC models on the ground :)

  • I believe since they are one of the soaring theory that human can take and use to be the RC Jet.

  • This is not fake... it's an hobby that you don't know nothing about, keep leaving in a small world!

  • Not fake of course, fake its for people that doesn´t understand a sh** about this. This is state of the art in aeromodelism! congrats for the video

  • how is that possible?

  • @scmbyhbk A strong airframe, the right updrafts, and a good pilot. Using the differences in air velocity and circling around in a dynamic soaring pattern with far more force than a human pilot could probably take, you can go significantly faster than you'd think a glider can.

  • watch?v=6i8Byufd3go&NR=1 from down under! fiest your eyes!

  • I have been a video producer for more than 25 years, I also fly RC turbine powered jet models and make videos of them. There is nothing fake about this video.

  • I would not want to be hit by that. ;)

  • All you are calling bullshit are full of shit i know this guy, have been to his house and have a 60" of the same plane. you really should look up DSing want what it really is. this plan is unpowered!!!!!! i dont think thecharliewatts knows his ass from his hand when is comes to this kind of sport. nothing is altered on this video furthermore the radar gun shows the speed ASS. check yourself before you reck yourself

  • Yes... you are right.

  • I guess the video of the new record of 399mph on Vimeo a fake too? Just search '399mph' and it's the only video that comes up... Enjoy!

  • Charlie, I couldn't agree with you more and your comments illustrate your point precisely. In this case, however, you are mistaken. I suggest that you google 'dynamic soaring' and do some reading before you embarrass yourself any further.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheCharliewatts

its a hobby you know nothing about. don't embarass yourself, stop posting and do some more reading.

  • @TheCharliewatts

    sorry buddy, its real.

do some digging... Its called dynamic soaring, and its off the hook!

  • I stand corrected! You're right, Wikipedia lists 392 mph as the record. I'd love to see it, but your video is not real, so I'll have to look elsewhere. I still know from experience in the film business that your video was hopped up. Good job though.

  • until you have been on the ridge with a glider slicing in and out of the shear layer at these speeds its not fair to claim this definately a fake... Its not, this is for real and that glider is seeing rediculous G forces that nothing alive could survive (70+), which is why the video looks so accelerated. That sound is real too, its the percusion of the shear layer snapping that glider like a huge catapult!

    Happy Landings!

  • I suggest you go and actually watch people doing dynamic soaring with your own eyes.

And let me tell you, from experience in the film business, I know that there is nothing at all to indicate this video being sped up.

  • Oh please, you've got to be kidding me. It's so noticeable it even looks skip framed.

  • You are so eager to see stuff that you see it even when it's not there.

It has low framerate. That's all. Look at the people and how they move.

Clearly your story about having experience in the film business was either a lie, or the experience is from something that has absolutely nothing to do with knowing how real and fake video is made or looks.

Just the fact that you use the term "skip framed" shows you don't know what you are talking about.

  • I have produced 5 movies. (I'd give you my name and let you check on ImdB but it has my e-mail) Clearly you don't know film if you don't know skip framed. Now it is digital. To speed it up, the editing platform (probably Final Cut Pro) uses every third frame twice which eliminates a frame and gives the illusion of high speed.

  • 1 - I didn't say I didn't know the term. I said that you using it shows you don't know what you are talking about.

2 - That has got to be the dumbest reason for not giving the name I have ever heard. You don't need to try to explain how you can speed up videos.

3 - There isn't one single thing in this video to indicate it being sped up, other than people not knowing anything about DS have a hard time understanding how fast this stuff really looks.

  • Homeboy: I had a professor at a college that teaches video, and the head of production at a major video production company look at the video: Here is one of their comments: " There is no reasonable judgment that can be made from this video." So! Spend some of this anger-energy and do the flight again. It is not a new world record unless it can be repeated or documented by an independent source. I don't doubt the speed of DS, I told you to begin with that was never my argument.

  • 1 - You seem to not understand that I didn't make this video.

2 - This professor seems to agree with me. There is nothing to indicate that the video is sped up.

3 - Why should the author bother to remake it for you. The rest of us that know what we are talking about and how this stuff looks don't have a problem with the video.

4 - Why would you think someone knows about this just because they are a professor teaching video?

  • If you didn't make the video, why are you defending it so? What DID you do? Obviously not go to college or you'd at least respect what a doctorate of media says. You say a world record does not need to be repeated. If DS is as possible as you say, this shouldn't be such a fluke. My professor friend wants the URL to another DS video for comparison.

  • Because despite you claiming it's obviously fake, there is nothing in the video to indicate that it should be. When you write such stuff, why shouldn't I argue against it?

I have a university degree in physics. It qualifies me as much or as little as a professor in media. A professor in media does not need to know anything about this.

And besides, the guy agreed with me. There is nothing to indicate that it's fake.

Just search in youtube for dynamic soaring if you want more vids.

  • You could also go out to a place where someone flies DS. I recommend it. Even at speeds much lower, it looks and sounds incredible. You wouldn't think a glider would be that noisy. and remember the planes are not that big, so even at just 100 mph it looks really really fast, and it's not easy. I can't fly it like that.

Records are never required to be duplicated. That would be impossible in sports. Remember this is just a youtube video. It doesn't need to be official.

  • The people present can vouch for it though and that might be enough to make it official.

If they wanted to fake it, they could just fake the readout of the radargun. No need to tamper with the video.

  • I used to spend plenty of time on making and editing video on my computer, just for my own enjoyment, making funny effects and fake stuff. No degree in anything qualifies you more than that.

  • obviously, you dont know anything about dynamic soaring because there's no computer involve in it, it came first before your PC was ever invented.

  • lol, what the hell are you talking about? I have never said anything about any computer being involved. Try to read what you reply to.

  • People believe what they want and it's your right to believe in this and mine not to. So I'll keep looking at DS videos because it interests me,, and if you have other URL's of some, I'd like to see them. Good luck in your flying.

  • 5 - Not being official is not what keeps it from being a world record. A world record does not need to be able to be repeated.

Final, there is nothing to indicate that this video is sped up or tampered with, and the comments you got from your professors agrees with this (not that their opinion matters so much, but you seem to value them). The movement looks incredible even when you fly at lower speed than claimed, so there wouldn't even be any need to tamper with the video.

  • It's not called skip framed. I know plenty of ways you could speed up a video, you don't need to try to explain. Nobody would call any of them "skip framed".

What you need to learn about now, is how compressed videos end up looking when there is fast movement. Then maybe you can understand why this video seems jerky at times. Had it just been every eg. 3 frames that was skipped, it would not have looked like this.

Clearly you don't understand what you are talking about.

  • Also the compression of the video makes it jerky when there's a lot of movement in the video. Just go see how it looks at lots and lots of other youtube videos when the camera is being moved fast.

You simply need to go look at some DS for yourself and see that it really moves that fast.

  • Your quote: "Also the compression of the video makes it jerky when there's a lot of movement in the video," is wrong. If you were not bullshitting, you wouldn't be protesting so much, you'd let it drop. I'd give you my name on ImDb but like I said, my e-mail is on that site. And I never said the plane COULDN'T do 392mph, because you were right about that and I was wrong - I looked it up on Wikipedia. I'm just simply saying the plane in your video is not doing 392mph.

  • ALSO - if it was a compression issue like you say, then re-render it at a higher rate and show me.

  • Comment removed

  • Click on HQ by the way to see it in better quality!

Higher bitrate is not all it's about though. Different codecs handle fast movement differently, and also whatever camera this was recorded with might have produce poor quality video.

Why should he waste his time on redoing it?

It's irrelevant that you know it's possible. This is about this video, and if you went to see this in real life, you'd see how fast it looks, even at way lower speeds that this. It really looks awesome.

  • Comment removed

  • It's a really really weird excuse dude. Why would your email show on imdb? And why would that be what you would worry about. You should worry more about giving out your name. It makes no difference anyway. Whatever experience you might have had in a movie, clearly didn't teach you how to spot a fake video.

  • @TheCharliewatts no the shame part is on your mother for giving birth to a narrow minded dumb fuck! do me and the rest of the world a favour and fuck off

  • Non believers obviously have no knowledge of what they are looking at. I wish people would go away and do a little research before they shoot their mouths off. Unfortunately, ignorance and jealousy are the only assets of many whom frequent the internet. Well done guys, just awesome and just a bit scary.... Would hate to see the result of an airframe versus modellor (or worse, innocent bystander) at those speeds. Go faster, Stay Safe!

    LanzBdog

  • im also now where close to as good as these pros. keep up the good work!!!

  • this is not fake at all what so ever. i tried it on my real flight g4 simulator. with winds that where i much hire then this and it got well over 400 miles an hour acording to the nave guides. so you non believers out there cant say that its not possible with physics or that the film is speed up.

  • haha you're just jealous you could not even fly that fast even in kilometers :P thbthbt

  • i dont understand what is that flying?

  • It's a remote control glider, as in unpowered apart from the control surfaces. It's an unpowered toy travelling at nearly 400 mph, which is fairly ridiculous.

  • @vitotiv Check the video at 1:45 and maybe you can figure it out :P

  • Where is this?

  • It's a hill in Weldon, CA near Lake Isabella.

  • shit ! it's hard to belive...

  • Lol I don't even do this and I can tell it's real. REAL FREAKIN SWEET! Anybody who thinks this is fake has no inspiration in their life.

  • ever seen DS in real life? It's real.

I flew my plane to 165mph before I moved to a part of the world where the terrain doesn't support this kind of flying. Yes, it's mind blowing that they're now up to these speeds, but it's absolutely possible. You just need a glider that can sustain 40g and beyond in the turns. Many a glider has been turned into confetti doing this type of flying, it's very much real.

  • Obviously, you dont know anything about Dynamic Soaring, educate first yourself before posting.

  • Oh by the way... It is actually Physics !

  • moJoCooki sounds official.....

  • dude you have no idea what your talking about, this is the real deal. Ive seen DS upclose and personal and you have too see it too believe it.

  • Actually, it's very flattering that you think this is fake. This is actual footage of a real flight in the California desert with an R/C sailplane called the 100" Kinetic DP. I'm the designer and builder of the plane so no replicas. No tricks here. Its the eye popping speeds that make DS so fun and addictive. Perhaps you can come out to the hill sometime to witness DS firsthand.

  • Respect !!

  • - @MoJoCooki -

Your entire life is a hoax.

Sailplanes can go this fast if they're well designed.

I've never flown anything above 150 miles per hour and that scared the crap out of me.

  • Only a dummy will say Dynamic Soaring is fake. Obviously you have 0 knowledge of it, educate yourself first before posting.

  • @MoJoCooki 1) There isn't any commerciual gain. 2) Unless you've tried dynamic soaring, shut up and go away.

  • I'm not sure that plane can be called a glider. UFO comes to mind.

  • I think it's definitely identified.

  • free energy, very nice, the G loading on it must be very high,

  • Nice Record.. Glad to see how the previous record that has been smashed. Whats the specs of that glider ??

How many servos have stripped their gears or burnt their motors ?? Have the aileron control surfaces cracked/warped under the intense forces ??

  • How are thy powered?

  • That's just the thing. They aren't.

  • Natural power? Where can I do more research on this wind energy thing?

  • It's called "Ridge Lift"

    Where was this?

  • They ARE!!!! ... powered by the Wind!

  • they are powered, but its not by any production motor, and the power is both free and invisble, now guess :D

  • BLACK Magic????

  • dang, i never knew that was possible with a glider... pretty neat

  • excellent!!!!!!!

  • This is awesome.

Assuming the glider follows a circular path. Velocity 175 m/s. From watchin the video I say the glider does one full revolution in about 3 seconds (possible faster). This gives us a turn-radius of only ~80 metres.

Centripetal force required to keep an object with speed v in a circular motion with radius r is:

    F = m * v^2 / r

Putting in the numbers, and dividing by the mass gives us an inwards accelleration of a whopping 382 m/s^2. Or in terms of G-force:

    39 G

  • Yup! 30-40Gs average, but I've figured since I usually pull the top turn much harder, It's likely seeing 50-60Gs at that point! Hence the copius amounts of exotic carbon fibers inside... ;o)

  • w...o...w ive never seen anything like that in my life

  • more info on Kinetic Sailplanes at

    DSKineticDOTcom

  • That is awesome! I"v been flying R/C for 16 years and I have never seen anything like that in my life. lol. How is it ,it is able to go that fast?

  • The plane moves in and out of low air pressure areas, and the angle/placement of the loop allows you to damn near ignore gravity. Something like that. I'm just a drunk.

  • haha

  • pretty impressive!!

Where is the fastest point ?(relative to the ground)

If that is not square "On column" at that point with the radar gun, that would yield would yield a lower reading.

Not criticizing, just wondering if you could get an even higher reading from the same flight? radar gun on a mast etc?

  • Good observation! The fastest groundspeed is when the plane is headed down into the backside. Logistically, it's not practical to set up something as elaborate as a boom, etc so DSers have adopted the standard of measuring the up leg as shown.

There is still cosine error on almost every pass because the gun and plane are never perfectly aligned. I'm pretty certain we've beat 400mph but not officially as we measure it...

  • Thanks for the info !!

I have flown (in and on) all sorts of things since 1982 , and only heard of DS this weekend from a hanglider friend....VERY cool, I will be you-tubing away a few hours on this....

Congradulations on the great speed !!!

  • DS is very cool . If you like gliders maybe you can also look into DLG gliders . They are not ment for DS but rather to find thermic activity (lift) . I'm just starting into DLG after beeing into rc for as long as you and it's so fun cause weight is crutial. Brings a totally new spin to rc. Check it out.

  • Cool, my friend owns one of the record holding planes now. I got to hold it :D

  • do you know whats it made out of CF i would think?

  • The wings are made of carbon fiber like a helicopter rotor blade, u think the fusalage is too.

  • yeah i would imagine at those speeds it would have to be pretty cool stuff wouldnt wanna crash that doing almost 400mph there wouldnt be any thing to salvage lol

  • Mr Noem read how it is done here

VV VV VV geocities, com/soaringbythebay/dsoar, htm

  • How is that work ?

  • How is that possible?

  • It looks like whatever is flying is disappearing.

  • Freaking crazy.. scary though since its hard to see considering size and speed. Sorta like playing Russian Roulette.

  • FAKE!

    .

    .

    .

    .

LOL, just kidding! Can't believe the usual YouTube retards haven't posted that yet.

    Man, that is HAULIN!!!

I wonder what speed you would get on a face like Blowing Rock, NC where you can get 70mph in decent weather.

Also, what reinforcing to the wings was done on the glider... I imagine the G's are pushing the envelope of the model's structural integrity.

  • Holy crap! Makes my turbine jet look like it's standing still!!!!

  • Where was this taken. Looks like a cool place to go
