  • i love the tools kids have today. when i was young we had hooked on phonics which was good because you heard the words over and over. in primary school i was reading at a 5th grade level. so i have faith in the newer generation products. i have a baby due in 8 weeks and i am going to try this new method out with her too.

  • @mzkay478 There is so much you can do just on your own (without Your Baby Can Read) too.... basically the memorization of the symbols is a good start like I did here. I never had to teach my older one phonics at ALL (this one's older sister). My older one is now in 2nd grade and was recently assessed at an 11th grade comprehension for reading. This, though, is not a blessing... haha!! She's smarter than I am! I think early reading helps them understand their world in a way we never could.

  • either today's kids are very smart or we were really dumb !

  • I think about all the slow learners out there and how this might have helped if they were given opportunities like this when they were babies. I see it as very honoring to the child. Good stuff!!

  • that was so awesome!

  • I agree with you...but the program does not teach a baby to "read" every video of this series is the same....same words same actions. Its like asking the baby "what does the dog say" children at this age are not mentally able ot comprehend reading. They are mimic's the real benifit comes from reading to the child...and encouraging it

  • The baby is shown the word and given an action to do. This is repeated.

  • @ipodkrzy Yes, duh. The child is memorizing sight words. It's a precursor to real reading. Why start early? It sure makes life more fun when you can spend your time outside playing instead of learning the mechanics of reading in kindergarten. My older one (first grade now... in the other videos) is reading at a middle school level... and reads for leisure all the time. Reading is as natural as breathing for her... no phonics necessary.

  • *sigh* people, the child isn't "reading" the parent writes the word and does the action-such as clap-over and over again

  • cute but is a one year old reading really that important and beneficial?? what happened to normal milestones of development

  • I believe the key to this success is not the baby, It is more about the support of the parents. How much patience they have and how much they want their baby to succeed. How they teach the baby. Of cause you need a smart baby, but I am sure at least 50 % of todays babies have an IQ of 120.

  • Don't forget the Chess lessons! It is the greatest gift you can give a child.

I am a sportsman, yet do not sweat. I will never crash my race car into a wall at 200MPH because it is not racing. I will never break a bone kicking or jumping for a ball.

Chess masters have the highest respect of the only community that really matters. The intellectual community.
