That's true, but in 1999, a Swiss forensic odontologist compared the teeth in the Soviet archives to X-rays of Hitler's head, his dental records, and photoanalysis of his face, and declared them to be a match.
Given the uniformness of witnesses' statements (even Rochus Misch, the last surviving witness) about how Hitler died, where his body was cremated and buried, and its correspondence to where the Soviets found and autopsied the body, the likelihood that he survived is pretty much nil.
Rochus Misch has changed his story over the years though, contradicting his previous testimonies and known facts, and cannot be taken as a very reliable witness. Also, comparing the teeth the soviets had to 50+ years old dental records and photos is nowhere near as solid as DNA tests, which they more recently did on the skull those teeth came from. I suggest you watch the documentary Mysteryquest: Hitlers Escape. Very interesting watch.
No, the teeth were taken from the corpse they autopsied in 1945. The skull fragment was found in 1946 when they dug in the same area of the garden. Hugo Blaschke, Hitler's dentist, was presented with a box full of dental bridges and ID'd the one from they removed the corpse as Hitler's. Why the UConn scientists didn't analyze the teeth along with the skull fragment is the real mystery here.
