I've grown to appreciate this film. Jimmy is a tragic hero. He takes things far too seriously, or maybe his shallow "friends" don't take things seriously enough.

I walked from Birling Gap to Beachy Head last Sunday. Blazing sun on white cliffs, one of the most beautiful areas in Britain.

What's worse is when jimmy takes Steph for a ride on his Lambretta, and it's obviously filmed on a trailer! He shifts from first gear into second, bit for some reason shifts back into first again!!! That is so "Daft, bloody daft!"

Miiwii: I agree. I personally never liked Tommy. I have always thought Quadrophenia was far better musically with a darker, deeper story. I know most will disagree because Tommy is a classic. It's just my own humble opinion.

My guess is that as James Michael Cooper stood up while riding toward the cliff, he was catapulted off of it into the ocean! He would pass for someone with Asperger's Syndrome. People with the condition do find themselves torn between fitting in and being themselves.

Also in the liner notes, it explains that in the original concept, Jimmy took a boat to a rock in order to think, but he fell asleep and the boat drifted off, so now he's stuff out on a rock in the middle of the ocean with nothing to do but think about the past weekend, tryiing to decide if he wants to be a Mod or not - "Had Enough" says it all.

In the liner notes, it explains that Jimmy is torn between being a Mod and just being himself. He wants to "move with the fashions" but he also knows it's not for him. Listin to "Helpless Dancer". At the end of the film, it says"...You stopped dancing".

The scooter symbolizes everything Mod. When it crashes, it means that Jimmy has decided to be himself.
