@giopagoda Thank you very much. If you go to my channel and search "homemade guitar"...I have an 8 part series on how I built my latest guitar. Thanks for watching!
Ok no probs they r awsome lol yeh ive subscribed anyway so ill keep checking your vids and thanks for replying back and all the best for the future ;) take care
Have u got stock left I looked on your website and evrything is sold im interested in the guitar amp combo whats the price? It dont say and Do u ship to the u.k? Thanks
@ospreys17 I've stopped selling them at the moment. I may begin producing more in the future, but I'm pretty busy with other things at the moment. I have shipped my guitars all over, but insured shipping to the UK is very pricey. It can add a couple hundred dollars to the cost. I'll post a video and update my website when I get back to building. Thanks for your interest!
Your job is absolutely awesome! I love the way this guitar sounds, it's rude, raw, so natural and wild. Tastes of freedom! What strings are you using? And have you changed some settings on the amp to obtain that sound?
Hahaha! I had cheked out your Studebaker vids! was'nt expecting to see you w/ a sgr box gtr!! How common humans are! its a good thing!! Keep up the good work!!
Man, that's awesome! When you plugged that in the karaoke machine, I was expecting it to sound like an AM radio with a 1 inch speaker. Then, when you cranked it up, it sounded like the roar of satan! I jumped out of my skin! You've got some really awesome ideas there man! Thanks for sharing.
I tried using wiper blade inserts. They're pretty sharp when you first cut them off. I did a test run to see if it fit in the fret saw channel I cut. It fit really well. Couldn't get it back out. I tried different methods, was in a hurry. Managed to sent the little stainless steel piece right though the tip of my thumb. It bottomed out on my nail. Bled all over the dang place. I bought some fret wire.
How did you fasten the neck to the body? Do you glue the neck to the lid on the inside? Or do you use screws to fasten the neck? If so, where did you put the screws?
@heshmuffinsvideo It depends on the guitar, but in this case the neck is glued to the lid of the box. This is a semi-hollow body and really wasn't intended to produce much acoustic sound. In my acoustic cigar box guitars, I cut a relief into the neck so that it doesn't touch the lid. That way it is free to vibrate more freely. Some people do attach the necks to the box with screws. There are numerous ways to go about it. Check out the website cigarboxnation if you want to get some ideas.
I just saw your sons steampunk gun video and I really liked it, this is kinda steampunk too though! you know putting things together that are lying around , I REALLY like it! keep up the good work
that is the 1st box guitar i have ever seen in my entire life i swear it is so frigging neat-o.... you amaze me truly ...just when i think i have seen all you can do u surprise me with another cool thing...if your married tell your wife she is a lucky lady ;)
@shartne Thanks. It's right about where I like it right now. There is no fret buzz and it's set up a bit high to allow for aggressive slide play. It's still low enough to allow for finger tapping and quick movement. It's not perfect, but it's definitely very playable.
Those Guitar are even more awesome up close. Superb Craftsmanship Jeff. I had my volume all the way up to hear you speak and then when you started playing, it almost blew the speakers out of my computer.
@smashygadge Thanks, I noticed that you have gotten into cigar box guitars as well. They really are a lot of fun to build and play. People are always amazed that they actually work.
jeff, this is really amazing! i thought they were pretty cool when i saw them in the other vid but this close-up is soooo cool! .. =D .. the best part is that they are functional!!! loved the demo at the end!! awesome!! my question is: how long does it take to make one?? .. =D
@oopspaw Thanks, I'm glad you like the closer look. I have to admit that I can't really give you an exact labor time. i could build a very crude version in an afternoon, but mine are assembled over 3 to 4 days. I do all the cutting, sanding, and painting by hand. You also have to allow for drying times on the glue, paint, and varnish. I try not to think about them in parts and labor terms. I just build each one the best that I can with what I have.
That certainly sounded better then your trumpet did... lol... kidding Beautiful, thanks for the more in depth look. I have to assume the lower black part of the neck goes right on through the cigar box to the butt for strength and the top with the frets was affixed to it after? What does your average guitar go for? I know it will change with styles and such... just curious what a base impact may be on my wallet if I ever wanted to order one.
@Goregoon You're correct that it is a neck-through design. It gives it strength and excellent sustain. Most of my guitars sell for between $300 - $500. I've recently shut down my online store for a bit. With all that I have going on, I was having trouble keeping up with it. I'll let everyone know when I add the purchase buttons back to my site. Thanks for the interest, I appreciate it.
@RamblinAround WoW, glad to hear you have too many orders to keep up with... tells me you're a hit!! I can't afford to splurge these days but I tell you this... IF I ever find I can spare it without starving myself for a month (LoL) I would buy one of those beauties in a heartbeat! I consider that a bargooooooon for such a playable piece of art!!!
