I can't believe the Russians were able to hold out against the Germans for years all by themselves, taking as many losses as they did, it's absolutely astonishing they killed the most Germans and had the most people killed(in fact, nearly every single russian alive today has a relative who died in ww2) Thank you RUSSIA! Also the allies did very well too especially the Brits to hold the West for so long before the Americans got dragged in by Germany, fascinating history
@hooha96 yea I understand..I have heard similar music during most videos of those years but in todays time it just feels annoying. But then again...the documentary was good so I can live with that.
Per % of population. Canadians lost the most. Though, we were feared by the Nazis most than any other. I know. I am one of them and, though too young, I can understand.
We are a pacific people, but think no joke about war when we are stuck in it. No mercy for us, nor for the ennemy. This is the way it is.

~Had USA's Jews not interfered, St.Hitler's freedom-fighting WW2-Wehrmacht would have defeated the Jew-Bolshevik Commies, --and sadly USA would not now be a Jew-Bank'ster tyranny. Entering Germany, ethical Gen.Patton met with noble German officers & soldiers; realizing he'd been 'duped' by Pres.-FDR's stooge Gen.Eisenhower, he planned to enjoin the German-army to crush the Bolshevik-Jews; --thus enlightened, Patton was targeted by FDR's CIA/Jew-agent's Air-gun in a staged-accident and soon died!
@jkilla199 Just Ameicans? What about the British, Canadains, Australians, New Zeelanders, Poles, Czechs, French, or any other nationality that was part of the Allied Operations in France?
@11nytram11 well it seems i made a grave error by only acknowledging the American troops we can all agree that all allied troops who lost there lives should never be forgotten but remembered and remembered
Landing in normandy was a political necessity. The soviet army could win the war and without a second front. But we honor the memory of american guys. Thank you. Greetings from russia.
@0311SECFOR see RUSSIAN SNIPER RIFLES TAKE AIM AT US MARKET,and WOODSBALL-SNIPERS,BACKPLAYERS,DEFENSE.THIS DOUGSTERCANADA1 thought he can scare me attacking me personally.and laying out some of the comments i made in the past.i challenged him to a shooting match but no replies and instead began to enumerate my past comments.arrogant bitchass that he is.
winning an argument is putting even more glaring points to prove your side.personally attcking the other side is amateurish.you win?by whose judgement?your own?think all the fucks reading will agree?in your cretin mind maybe..but for any open minded reader, your just a punk trying to scare and bully opposition.if they get scared you win.what if they dont?so dougstercanada1,go fuck yourself.your no different than stalin or mao.a tyrant.
@0311SECFOR looks like the deluge of factual info had dougstercanada1 choked up he couldnt formulate an answer.way to go my friend...i like the wanker comment...hahahahaha
@0311SECFOR If I used Youtube to learn history, I would be as retarded as you! You watch 10 min videos on Youtube and you are now a historian? University of YouBoob! What am I even doing wasting my time with a moron like you anyway? LOL You win, the French owned the Germans. They always WIN! LOL Happy now putz? That is why they surrendered, they always win that way! You are proof that watching YouBoob and playing war games will always defeat historic fact. ROFLMAO
@0311SECFOR Well it looks like you went back and actually reread my comments for this one whereas before you were asking what my argument was. LOL Your making out that the French ground the Germans to a halt is moronic and as sophomoric as most of your posts. You sit there and say the French were the last to surrender... who was the last to be attacked? You didn't even know about the Phoney War until I told you! And with that background you aspire to be some military historian!
@0311SECFOR Videos on Youtube as historic fact? ROFLMAO You mean the narration drivel in half of them? Yes, I have seen plenty of BS too, like the conspiracy theory ones, the arguments about God & the Bible, yes even the ones that YOU engage in). How about the Holocaust, the videos that swear that it never happened? How about the raging battle about the Jews and Palestinians? And on and on and on...
@0311SECFOR It's common historic knowledge that the French don't fair well in war. Need facts, let me know. Those of us who have actually READ a book or two might be more in the know that those like you who when challenged for their "facts" spout off BS and then scream "Read a book!" (that little ploy of yours won't work here.. it works on the 10 year olds you game with online. As to saying they didn't fight, fine.. they BARELY FOUGHT, happy?
@0311SECFOR "For fun"? Well I suppose trolling and coming across as a "know it all" must be fun for you. I didn't comment on the BBC, I commented on your incorrect spouting of numbers as "fact" more like they were doubled.
@0311SECFOR OMG too funny, now you are playing what, End War, StarCraft (September), lets not forget "Shadow Raiders" (animated cartoons), Call of Duty, GoW, MW2, Doom, Alien Vs Predator? Wow, you really are a "player". I guess that makes you the expert on WWII. What with those little briefings at the beginnings of the missions and all. Hell, you probably fought more WWII than my dad and he was there in person.
@0311SECFOR "Ah, the Wikipedia wars", I had some difficulty checking your sources (just cause it's in print, doesn't make it a fact). I had not realized you were quoting out Wikipedia information. I am on to you now. *Sitting back flipping the pages of The Arms of Krupp, and sipping my coco* waiting for the next misstep. Any slowing of the Germans pretty much came from Hitler who was shocked at his amazing success. Keep reading junior, keep reading. France almost always folds.
@0311SECFOR You ignore my comment on the "phoney war" after saying the "French were the last to surrender". They were the LAST attacked, moron! How can that be a valid statement "last to surrender" if there was no real hostility regarding the French until the 10th? You simply cannot answer that can you? Now, either agree that they were swept aside and surrendered and in 6 weeks, or not, I could care. If you aren't French, you should be, maybe grandpa was. Hence your fussing here.
@0311SECFOR Actually it does have everything to do with what you do. If you want to sit there and play war games and make yourself out as some military expert then spout obviously error filled facts (like you find in games). Then you tell me I need to read some history books (and then start quoting and proffering videos), give me a break. I was reading military history 30 years before you were born. I simply refuse to debate the fall of France with a moron who pulls number out of his "arse".
@0311SECFOR Oh ya, the French fought, but I went to summer camp longer than that. LOL As to your incorrect facts on casualties, and the French grinding the Germans to a halt, were wrong, you are wrong and you will be wrong. Anyone can reference your "original" comments. I don't even know how the German tanks defeated the Allied tanks? Are you having some imaginary conversation somewhere else? We never discussed that. LOL Attacked you? Reread your posts junior. LOL Lamer, gamer, fantasy poser.
When you get older, you will realize that about this point in the conversation, you have lost it completely. You cannot proffer incorrect information and then dis the person who corrects you. Just because you scream and yell, doesn't make your incorrect facts on WWII true, accurate or even remotely "factual". The fact you quickly resort to adhomenum comments means you are out of "information" (despite your implying you read and studied and "knew" this subject.). It's your loss all the way around
@0311SECFOR "I win!" LOL, you sure you aren't French? They declare victory too. I am not the one having discussions and posting on fantasy game forums, you are. You will never win. "Depending on how many "fuckwitts" you talk to on YT?" I thought you read up and knew! LOL (Fail) Tired of swords and magic? Tell me you have left "fantasy" behind LOL. As to "fact" on YT, I see there are UFO videos too. As to personal comments, now you cry but you were the first to make adhomenum comments, "pussy".
@0311SECFOR Regarding the "Free French" I asked a question and got no answer. I just wanted to see where you get the BS about them too. Were there 4,000, 40,000, or 400,000 according to you was what I was getting at. And who "qualified" as "Free French" in your simple mind. You certainly could be French and least in ancestry as you have quite an imagination regarding their military "prowess" and an undeserved ego to match. Lame punk gamer know it all.
@0311SECFOR "300,000 casualties were sustained by Axis forces. - You dumb enough to think they dropped dead walking to Paris?" Is what you said. The fact the number you tossed out was over DOUBLE what happened indicates you have little respect for the truth & facts. I don't regard your "youth" as much as I regard your murdering the truth to suit your argument. Then again, we wont get into your belief system which no doubt helps you make things up. BS is BS no matter how often it's quoted.
@0311SECFOR Well what is it going to be, you call me a kid and then an adult who bullies kids in another. Are you some mature WWII expert, or a scared child in the dark? You cannot have it both ways, unless you are in one of your fantasy games. Life isn't like your fake games, you don't get to reset and reboot. You want to come here and spout BS like some expert, you are gonna get called on it. If you hate ignorant fucks, self-loathing must be full time for you, much like gaming in mom's cellar.
@0311SECFOR Still in mommy's basement, scared of the dark? I could give a hoot if you are or are not French, you are a lame gamer who thinks that some game tells you the "facts". It doesn't. I just wont abide some 20 something poser know it all BS that the French ground the Germans to a standstill when war diaries say Hitler was shocked by his success, actually held his forces back by order. Obviously you don't read! Six weeks is a classic French fail as is your knowledge of WWII. Go play kid.
@0311SECFOR SO, whom shall we count as Free French Forces? The ones who escaped the Germans and fled to England with their general, or, every country (colony) that chose not to surrender with France and fought on on their own, despite the collapse of France? I mean, even France had to make up rules who could claim "Free French" status after it was all over. LOL Everyone who objected (even verbally under their breath) was "Free French!" Of course after we liberated France ROFLMAO
@0311SECFOR 300,000 Axis dead? LOL Try this, 27,500 killed, 18,000 missing, and 111,000 or so wounded. (NOT DEAD) OK? Lying Vichy kid, go back to your Aliens vs Predator games your life is rooted in fantasy. I still maintain you folks cannot fight for beans. The only thing that never needs a bail out in French history of war is your egos. 2nd Crusade, Crecy, 100 years war, French and Indian War, Waterloo, Trafalgar, WW1 (bail out) & WW2 (once again) Oh, and Dien Bien Phu (your "Nam" too)
@0311SECFOR "Kid"? You are the one in their 20s who was afraid of the dark when you watched Alien. Now you fascinate in gaming all your fantasy games. You know how I know, so don't deny it. France's surrender after 6 weeks of battle hits pretty hard doesn't it? So, you are saying that the French fighting with superior weapons, were mauling the Germans right up to the point the French surrendered? LOL educated? I don't have some Vichy ego doubling numbers. LOL
@0311SECFOR Actually (and factually) France in 1939 had 41.6 vs. 76 million German population. Steel output was 6.2 vs. 23.1 million tonnes. So much for your historical "facts" (where do you get this BS?). Better equipped? More like never fired and dropped once weapons. You keep talking about the "Free French Forces", how about a number? What is depressing is, the other (Vichy) French were junior Nazis. Huge mistake but eventually you learned as well, better late I suppose.
@0311SECFOR LOL, I am Canadian. I guess the name wasn't enough of a clue. I seem to recall us showing up. Do you honestly think the French could have pulled their tit out of the ringer without help? I actually don't recall it being "America's" war in the beginning or for that matter Canada's either. Poland was invaded Sept 1, 1939, then the "Phoney War" until May 10, 1940. Last to surrender? What after 6 weeks of "real war"? Please, no more French history, it's depressing.
@Biloutemag Had the French defeated the Germans instead of surrendering, we wouldn't have needed to use your beach. Sorry if we got blood on your sand, next time we will try not to bleed so much, or you could win by yourselves for a shockingly refreshing change. Must have been confusing for you French too, what with the Vichy, 8th Sturmbrigade SS Frankreich, 33rd Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS Charlemagne, French Gestapo. Next time, do it yourself or learn German, I could care less.
Before D Day Starlin had been asking for a new front in Europe for quite sometime as he needed it too take the pressure off the eastern front and too buy him some time. If it hadn't been for D Day and the Axis troops that were pulled from Russia as reinforcements for the fight in France, Russia would have taken alot longer to beat the Axis force's that they were up against.
We can argue about whether the Russians needed help or if pre-invasion bombardament of Normandy was murder of the French. What is not arguable is the assertion by this narrator that the armies of the "United Nations" were going to be involved in D-Day. It was the "Allied Nations'" armies. Preserving history is one thing, mis-stating it in the attempt is recklessness. Lousy writing thru-out.
This is funny. Normandy landing is not a turning point. When the allied forces landed in Normandy, the outcome of the war had been decided earlier in Stalingrad.
...they need to help russians...shit!..it was a long discussion, Churchill did, to land in Balkans in order to limit the Stalin post war power. Eisenhower opposed...and Romania, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria were back fucked by fucking ruSSians for 45 years...I know what I'm saying...Maybe Stalin killed more ppl than any Hitler, SS or German war...
All those people died because of a sadistic psychopath. that aint gonna happen again.....soon their genetic fingerprint will be discovered and they will all go to where they belong....the pits of hell!!!!
I MEAN IF THE US LOST SO MANY TROOPS YOU MUST KNOW SOMEONE WHO FOUGHT ON THHAT DAY,I KNOW 2 OFF MY UNCLES WHO WHERE THERE ?one of my uncles rode a Tank into that mess, another liberated BELSON,
@Cottonboy88 Yeah, it provides very basic info. For somebody that didn't know about D-Day like little kids. But you gotta admit that it's at least put things in a positive light. Propaganda these days is always so negative. People hate eachother too much. This "documentary" does have some good footage.
We are losing a generation of people that could easily be considered a better generation. And for many reasons. And yes Russia would have taken the war out, just a numbers game. I salute them all.
The turning point of the war was not this it was Stalingrad. The normandy invasion helped end the war quicker but Russia was going to take Berlin regardless. We the US didnt even need to invade Europe, Russia was already doing a good job at this point of the war.
good to see some ppl know what their talking about...germans were pushed back at stalingrad and USA invaded only to get a piece of berlin...Russia was gonna defeat germany anyhow...but still.. allies are there to help each other and im sure by USA's participation in the war they saved lives...
@quest8899 not true if we didnt we still would have been able to give the russians support and it would have taken a hell of alot longer but to some degree you r right
@quest8899 Absolutely, but without the Western Allies supplying the Soviet Union, I believe the Germans would of taken more strategic points which would take maybe a couple more years to for the Soviets to fight off. (It is logistically impossible for Germany to take over all of the Soviet Union)
@jeffry477 See, here's a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation in Europe in WW2. Nazi-Germany lacked the air power, naval power and intelligence to ever successfully invade Britain. Thay proved this by being unable to break the RAF in the Battle of Britain and by being unable to mount a serious threat to the Royal Navy once the Bismarck was sunk. Germany could never have invaded Britain during WW2 - regardless of whether the actually wanted to or not - they simply lacked the capacity.
@jeffry477 By the time of Operation Overlord, Nazi-Germany had deployed most of its strenght to the Eastern Theater and could never hope to mount a serious threat as far as a cross-channel invasion went. Their only possible window of opportunity was after the battle of France in 1940 but they missed that window and allowed the British to recover. Nazi-Germany could have kept hold of continental Europe if they made peace with Britain but capturing the British Isles was beyond their capabilities.
@11nytram11 They didn't let the british recover, they were bombing their factories before they could even think about preparing for an invasion. When the Americans enterd the war, they started bombing germany with the help of the RAF. Germany had hundreds of opporunities. Making peace with the British wouldnt have done anything
@jeffry477 So Nazi-Germany didn't hesitate to attack at Dunkirk allowing 300,000 British, French and Belgian soliders to evacuate? The didn't shift their bombing from air bases to Cities just because the British bombed Berlin? They had the British basically beaten in France and had they captured the troops at Dunkirk Britian would have to had capitulated but they let them escape, they had the RAF on the ropes but gave them breathing space by shifting to attack cities.
@jeffry477 It has been argued that Hitler didn't want to invade Britain, that he was worried about America and Japan taking over British Overseas Territories if the UK was occupied so he let the British escape and deliberately made Sealion a half-assed plan that he never intended to use. Wether that's right or not the Germany took the pressure off of the British in two crucial occaisons and allowed them to recover their strength and continue the war.
@jeffry477 When Nazi-Germany were bombing towns and cities and factories if did nothing to stop the production of British War material. The rate of production for Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarie Spitfires increased when the Luftwaffe shifted their attacks from airbases, the British Army was resupplied with modern fire-arms and artillery, tanks were still produced and sent to the Mediterranean and lent to the Soviet Union. Britain continued to be productive throughout the Blitz.
@11nytram11 Yes but making peace with the British still wouldn't have done anything, After Nazi-Germany invaded Poland, Britain wasn't going to make a peace with germany until they were stopped.
@11nytram11 BECAUSE OF THE AMERICANS! The americans were making all the war supplies for europe at the time. why do you think America is the #1 world power Because our economy sky rocketed during ww2
@jeffry477 And exactly where did I say that America wasn't the top producer of war materials during the war years? Where, exactly, did I say that the American economy didn't sky rocket during WW2?
America did very well out of both WW1 and WW2, taking advantage of Britain's heavy involvement in those conflicts to surpass Britain as the top economic power in the world.
Still doesn't change the fact that Nazi-Germany never came close to invading the UK, let alone conquering it.
England would have starved even before Hitler invaded England without American intervention. We supplied ammo, food, medicine, and supplies long before we officially entered the war. Hitler had rockets and would continue to bomb England. It was only a matter of time before England surrendered. The United States did not "take advantage" of Britain, it was your war not ours. Britain has fought with other countries for centuries. Britain invaded poor countries and stole their resources.
@goombabear The US acted in its own self-interest. It's what it has always done and what it always will do. The US are not to be blamed for doing so however because it was natural thing to do. Had the situation been reversed the British would not have thought twice before manipulating the situation so it profitted from it. I'm not criticizing the US for doing this but what I am rallying against is this idea that the US acted out of charity and got nothing in return, because that's a lie.
@goombabear Furthermore the Nazi's were completely incapable of blocking the United Kingdom off from the rest of the world. They didn't have the strength at sea to do it. Their airforce was unable to secure superiority over the RAF in part due to bad command decision and in part through British technological superiority. They didn't develop rockets until 1944/1945 and rockets weren't going to win the war for them, they were a last ditch effort to avert the Allies conquest.
@goombabear You may want to criticise Britan for its imperial past but dont try to rewrite WW2. The fact is the Nazi's never came close to forcing Britain to surrender & the US were perfectly happy to sit on the sidelines without getting involved & trade war material and supplies for money, military bases & state secrets.
Before taking the moral high ground and criticizing the British for invading poor countries and stealing their resources look at US expanisist history. It's hardly any better.
@11nytram11 Why should we get involved in your war? In addition, Americans did help by sending supplies. You are the revisionist, get a college degree and maybe you will learn the facts. Our expansion involved buying land from France and Russia. We are not blameless, but your expansion involved invading the world. Britian has a long history of picking fights with France, Spain, Benelux, etc. I am not taking the moral high ground, however if you do not want to be judged, don't judge others.
@goombabear Ok. What part of this aren't you getting? I'm not criticising the US for not getting involved before Pearl Harbor. They were perfectly within their right to maintain the position of neutrality and isolation, and it was perfectly acceptable that they made the best of the circumstances to make as much money as they could out of Britain. What I criticise the modern Americans treating the material and supplies used by the British as a gift, it wasn't, the US got valuable things in return
@goombabear &the US expansion into Native American land and the Pacific was as bad as any British expansion into Africa or Asia - not on the same scale but still as bad - & it was illegal as per the the Treaty of Ghent signed after the War of 1812 which dictated that the US accepted the Indians rights to their land & wouldn't try to force them off it any more. My point was that you do not have the moral high ground to start bashing others for imperialism, you were just as bad as everyone else.
@goombabear An I didn't judge the US at all. I stated the fact that the US used the two world wars to gain financial superiority over the British, that they were perfectly within their rights and happy to remain neutral and profit from the conflicts and that the Nazi's never came close to invading Britain. You were the person who brought imperialism into this so dont try to pass the buck onto me. If you dont want your own dirty imperialist past to be mention dont criticise other nations for it.
@goombabear And for your information, I dont hate America. I'm critical of certain points in American history but I'm also critical of certain points in British history. I'm afraid the old American persecution complex is rearing its ugly head again. "He's said something unflattering about America therefore he must hate America". That's a really black and white perception you've got going there.
@11nytram11 You forget that after Dunkirk the was a small time window where UK was virtually defenceless since you left in France all your heavy stuff .The Wehrmacht suggested Hitler to land in England with airborne troops as they did later in CRete. But Hitler dismissed it.One of his many foolish decisions one major error was to let the BEF escape
@Ahornblatt2000 Nobody let the B.E.F escape, The Germans thought the Allies were trapped with no-escape, Nobody ever thought that 300,000 Allied troops would be evacuated in such short time. And Britain was never defenceless, The Royal navy made it impossible for any invasion of Britain. The British Industry were able to recover from Dunkirk very fast. It was impossible to even invade Britain, Never mind defeating the British Empire. Dunkirk was just a set back.
@martynrobin121 Off course let Hitler the BEF escape. His famous order to stop before Dunkurk is well known and nobody knows really the reasons behind.Second landing in England; How can the Royal Navy prevent an airborne attack, next time please read more carefully. And last;the British defence industry was a joke except for the Navy. You relied on the US,they eqipped you in every way.MOre than 50% of your gear was American made the Shermann Tank for example
@Ahornblatt2000 Hitler never let the Allies escape at Dunkirk, The Germans thought the Allies were trapped with no-escape, It was Goering who promised Hitler the Luftwaffe would take care of the trapped Allies. Nobody ever thought that 300,000 Allies troops could be evacuated in such short time, It was seen as impossible!!! And are you honestly trying to tell me that Airborne units could take Britain, Its insane! And the U.S didnt even give Britain a lendlease till 1941, They sold things MONEY!
@martynrobin121 Okay believe what you want.Maybe you want to hear what Christopher Foxley-Norris retired Air chief marshall of the RAF has to say about invading England with airborne units.Look here it starts at 7:min first the Germans then your Air Marshal
@Ahornblatt2000 You have to realise invading Britain by Air is just stupid, How could the Axis supply there troops? The British had over 400,000+ troops in England 1940, Invasion by Air was impossible and insane. The R.A.F could wipe out Axis invasion out the Air, Even if they got a successful landing they would last 10minutes before they ran out of Supplies. Invasion by Air is stupid when you think about it, Britain had access to endless resources, men from her Empire,Connections,ENGLISH NATIONS
@martynrobin121 I'm getting tired of your guys. Why don't you read more carefully so i don't have it to repeat me.That applies to you and all other guys who are to come after you.Watch "HOw Hitler lost the war".Watch part 3 and 4.There GErmans and British who lived and fought back then are talking about invading England.Just hear what your own Air marshall has to say what he says about in what condition UK had been in summer 1940.In a nutshell "We had nothing"
@Ahornblatt2000 Invading Britain by Air would be impossible due to many reason to think about it, Even if they got a successful landing they would be outnumbered and would run out supplies with 10minutes. Invading Britain by Sea was impossible due to the Royal Navy, The European Axis didnt even navy in the same league. British Industry produced 100 Spitfires, 100 Hurricanes every week, Supplies,Troops came from around the Empire. Invading Britain=IMPOSSIBLE just think about it,
@martynrobin121 You mean as impossible as beating the combined forces of France and Britain in 3 weeks? The channel is only 30-35 km wide and you want to tell me it's impossible to supply them by air?And they wouldn't be outnumbered unless you would send your men with nothing more than their bare hands on the battlefield. You left everything behind you in Dunkirk, remember? The Royal Navy is obselet on land and RAF alone wouldn't be able to prevent it.I was possible for a certain time!
@Ahornblatt2000 The British had half million troops in Britain 1940, Also thousand Air-craft, The British had tanks, etc and Industry to support there war-effort. Lets say by some miracle 100,000 Axis troops were able to invade by Air and got a successful landing, They would be outnumbered and would run out supplies, You say the Axis could supply there troops by Air? Whitch is impossible look at Stalingrad? Its impossible to invade Britain by Air or Sea, Hitler knew it!
@Ahornblatt2000 You do realise it was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain by Sea, Due to the Royal Navy. It was impossible to invade Britain by Air due to the R.A.F, You keep saying the Germans could have invaded by Air, THINK ABOUT IT, Thats foolish, Even with a successful landing, They would be outnumbered and would runout supplies within days. Just think about it, It was impossible to invade. Churchill knew it, And so did Hitler.
@Ahornblatt2000 The Kriegsmarine proved entirely incapable of gaining dominance over the Royal Navy, not once did the Nazis ever gain control of British waters. The Royal Navy was far from obsolete and posed a major challenge to any continental force that wanted to invade Britiain. Without dominance of the Channel - at least - the Nazis could not bring any heavy material to Britain and would not be able to supply and invasion force easilly or sent reinforcements quickly.
@Ahornblatt2000 The Luftwaffe proved incapable of neutralizing the RAF. They had the opportunity but Goering allowed Hitler to shift the focus from RAF Bases to Cities following a night-raid on Berlin & lost it. From that point on the RAF got stronger & stronger while the Luftwaffe weakened. Without the RAF being neutralized any air-bourne invasion of Britian would not go uncontested, nor would follow up drops of supplies or reinforcements. Aireal doiminace was key to any invasion of the UK.
@Ahornblatt2000 Certainly, even without neutralizing the RAF or gaining dominance over the Royal Navy, an invasion of the UK was possible but it would never be ultimately successful. The Nazis would struggle to reinforce or resupply any force they landing, there would be no great Panzer Division tearing up the British countryside nor would their be massed heavy artillery support for the Paratroopers and everyday that passed would make the invasion force weaker while strengthening the British.
@Ahornblatt2000 And not everything was left behind on Dunkirk. Much of the heavy material like tanks and field artillery were but most of the small-arms were brough back and there was enough heavy material in Britain to arm two divisions - a small amount really. The British industry to then driven into replacing the heavy material lost while the UK also bought heavy material off of the US. This re-armament would take a few months but even so it made the window of opporutinty very small.
@Ahornblatt2000 Actually, the order not to attack the BEF at Dunkirk came from Gerd von Rundstedt, not Hitler. He did this because he was not convinced that the Panzer Units could take the BEF positions without infantry support & when the British were retreating across the Channel he forbade any attack against the beaches both becuase he believed German resources would be better spent in an attack south to finish off the French & Georing was convinced the Luftwaffe could finish of the BEF alone.
@11nytram11 There are so many theories about the halt before Dunkirk.Which one is true?It doesn't matter.Look at Crete and check what happened there and you will see although the RN controlled the sea it couldn't prevent the attack and most important the subsequent GErman convoys. The Air Force has always the upper hand ina contest with the Navy. The Channel isn't wide some would have come through and with any airport captured in UK our chances for success would have risen and yours declined!
@Ahornblatt2000 Crete is a much smaller place than the UK and didn't need any heavy material to conquer it. Furthermore there was not even a quarter of the airial strenght available for the defense of Crete as there was for the defense of the UK. And the Germans lost a high percentage of their paratrooper forces in the Battle of Crete - paratrooper operations generally proved to be high casualty affiars.
@Ahornblatt2000 And you seemed to have missed my point. The Germans may be able to land on British soiled but they could never keep their supply routes open so long as the RAF and Royal Navy were not neutralized. Any SEALION type invasion of the UK was never going to be the Axis equivilent of OVERLORD. The Germans failed singularly in the two main areas they have to succeed to successful invade Britan and knock it out of the war - Airial Superiority and Naval Superiority.
@Ahornblatt2000 Since neither the Kreigsmarine nor the Luftwaffe were able to achieve their targets of neutralizing the RAF or Royal Navy there was no way to insure that German troops and equipment could be landed on the British mainland nor to insure that supplies or reinforcements could reach them. As such SEALION was scrapped. The failure of the German military and leadership during this time is clear for all to see.
@Ahornblatt2000 You cite the upper hand of the Air Force as a factor in the Nazis favor yet you seem to be overlooking the fact that the RAF was fully capable, since before even Dunkirk, of challenging the Luftwaffe's dominance, specifically over the UK, so any attempt by the Luftwaffe to attack RN ships in the Channel - in a Nazis invasion of the UK scenario - will be opposed by the RAF. If only the Rodney or King George V evaded the Luftwaffe then the Nazi invasion plans would be scuppered
@Ahornblatt2000 Since there were no proper troop transport ships in the Germans employ and the plan was for troops to be transported across the channel in river Barges just one of the Royal Navy's Battleships would be enough to overwhelm the invasion force and drive it back. And the British had more than enough Ships in the Home Fleet to risk some being damaged or sunk to prevent a German invasion, especially when the Germans had failed to get Aireal superiority.
@11nytram11 oh I believe that the UK could've been invaded if it hadn't been for their brave pilots... and if that had happened, the war might've gone in a different direction... Thankfully, they had those daredevils. But I'm no expert on the subject.
@jeffry477 .....No, you're wrong, the US wasn't making all the war supplies for Europe. Both the UK, USSR and Canada were producing war materials right up to the end of the war. Although the US was the major producer, lend lease to the USSR for instance never amounted to more than approx. 10% of total Soviet production. For example in 1944 the USSR had 62,000 tanks and self propelled guns of which only 6,500 were from lend-lease supplies.
@jeffry477 .....Really? Where did you go to school? Russia is a transcontinental state that is in both Europe and Asia. The land west of the Urals, including, Moscow, Stalingrad (Volgograd), Leningrad (St. Petersburg) are all part of Europe. 75% of the Russian population lives in Europe. The entire Germany-USSR war was fought in EUROPE.
I wouldn't say you are pathetic, but I know what ya mean. Every single one of these guys were heroes. If you haven't already check out the book "To hell and back" the Audie Murphy story. Great read!

ROFLMAO

@DougsterCanada1 looks like you choked up...hahahahaha...wanker...hahahaha
triggersafe 11 months ago
@0311SECFOR Well it looks like you went back and actually reread my comments for this one whereas before you were asking what my argument was. LOL Your making out that the French ground the Germans to a halt is moronic and as sophomoric as most of your posts. You sit there and say the French were the last to surrender... who was the last to be attacked? You didn't even know about the Phoney War until I told you! And with that background you aspire to be some military historian!
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Videos on Youtube as historic fact? ROFLMAO You mean the narration drivel in half of them? Yes, I have seen plenty of BS too, like the conspiracy theory ones, the arguments about God & the Bible, yes even the ones that YOU engage in). How about the Holocaust, the videos that swear that it never happened? How about the raging battle about the Jews and Palestinians? And on and on and on...
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR It's common historic knowledge that the French don't fair well in war. Need facts, let me know. Those of us who have actually READ a book or two might be more in the know that those like you who when challenged for their "facts" spout off BS and then scream "Read a book!" (that little ploy of yours won't work here.. it works on the 10 year olds you game with online. As to saying they didn't fight, fine.. they BARELY FOUGHT, happy?
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR "For fun"? Well I suppose trolling and coming across as a "know it all" must be fun for you. I didn't comment on the BBC, I commented on your incorrect spouting of numbers as "fact" more like they were doubled.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR OMG too funny, now you are playing what, End War, StarCraft (September), lets not forget "Shadow Raiders" (animated cartoons), Call of Duty, GoW, MW2, Doom, Alien Vs Predator? Wow, you really are a "player". I guess that makes you the expert on WWII. What with those little briefings at the beginnings of the missions and all. Hell, you probably fought more WWII than my dad and he was there in person.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR "Ah, the Wikipedia wars", I had some difficulty checking your sources (just cause it's in print, doesn't make it a fact). I had not realized you were quoting out Wikipedia information. I am on to you now. *Sitting back flipping the pages of The Arms of Krupp, and sipping my coco* waiting for the next misstep. Any slowing of the Germans pretty much came from Hitler who was shocked at his amazing success. Keep reading junior, keep reading. France almost always folds.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR You ignore my comment on the "phoney war" after saying the "French were the last to surrender". They were the LAST attacked, moron! How can that be a valid statement "last to surrender" if there was no real hostility regarding the French until the 10th? You simply cannot answer that can you? Now, either agree that they were swept aside and surrendered and in 6 weeks, or not, I could care. If you aren't French, you should be, maybe grandpa was. Hence your fussing here.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Actually it does have everything to do with what you do. If you want to sit there and play war games and make yourself out as some military expert then spout obviously error filled facts (like you find in games). Then you tell me I need to read some history books (and then start quoting and proffering videos), give me a break. I was reading military history 30 years before you were born. I simply refuse to debate the fall of France with a moron who pulls number out of his "arse".
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Oh ya, the French fought, but I went to summer camp longer than that. LOL As to your incorrect facts on casualties, and the French grinding the Germans to a halt, were wrong, you are wrong and you will be wrong. Anyone can reference your "original" comments. I don't even know how the German tanks defeated the Allied tanks? Are you having some imaginary conversation somewhere else? We never discussed that. LOL Attacked you? Reread your posts junior. LOL Lamer, gamer, fantasy poser.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
When you get older, you will realize that about this point in the conversation, you have lost it completely. You cannot proffer incorrect information and then dis the person who corrects you. Just because you scream and yell, doesn't make your incorrect facts on WWII true, accurate or even remotely "factual". The fact you quickly resort to adhomenum comments means you are out of "information" (despite your implying you read and studied and "knew" this subject.). It's your loss all the way around
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR "I win!" LOL, you sure you aren't French? They declare victory too. I am not the one having discussions and posting on fantasy game forums, you are. You will never win. "Depending on how many "fuckwitts" you talk to on YT?" I thought you read up and knew! LOL (Fail) Tired of swords and magic? Tell me you have left "fantasy" behind LOL. As to "fact" on YT, I see there are UFO videos too. As to personal comments, now you cry but you were the first to make adhomenum comments, "pussy".
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Regarding the "Free French" I asked a question and got no answer. I just wanted to see where you get the BS about them too. Were there 4,000, 40,000, or 400,000 according to you was what I was getting at. And who "qualified" as "Free French" in your simple mind. You certainly could be French and least in ancestry as you have quite an imagination regarding their military "prowess" and an undeserved ego to match. Lame punk gamer know it all.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR "300,000 casualties were sustained by Axis forces. - You dumb enough to think they dropped dead walking to Paris?" Is what you said. The fact the number you tossed out was over DOUBLE what happened indicates you have little respect for the truth & facts. I don't regard your "youth" as much as I regard your murdering the truth to suit your argument. Then again, we wont get into your belief system which no doubt helps you make things up. BS is BS no matter how often it's quoted.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Well what is it going to be, you call me a kid and then an adult who bullies kids in another. Are you some mature WWII expert, or a scared child in the dark? You cannot have it both ways, unless you are in one of your fantasy games. Life isn't like your fake games, you don't get to reset and reboot. You want to come here and spout BS like some expert, you are gonna get called on it. If you hate ignorant fucks, self-loathing must be full time for you, much like gaming in mom's cellar.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Still in mommy's basement, scared of the dark? I could give a hoot if you are or are not French, you are a lame gamer who thinks that some game tells you the "facts". It doesn't. I just wont abide some 20 something poser know it all BS that the French ground the Germans to a standstill when war diaries say Hitler was shocked by his success, actually held his forces back by order. Obviously you don't read! Six weeks is a classic French fail as is your knowledge of WWII. Go play kid.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR SO, whom shall we count as Free French Forces? The ones who escaped the Germans and fled to England with their general, or, every country (colony) that chose not to surrender with France and fought on on their own, despite the collapse of France? I mean, even France had to make up rules who could claim "Free French" status after it was all over. LOL Everyone who objected (even verbally under their breath) was "Free French!" Of course after we liberated France ROFLMAO
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR 300,000 Axis dead? LOL Try this, 27,500 killed, 18,000 missing, and 111,000 or so wounded. (NOT DEAD) OK? Lying Vichy kid, go back to your Aliens vs Predator games your life is rooted in fantasy. I still maintain you folks cannot fight for beans. The only thing that never needs a bail out in French history of war is your egos. 2nd Crusade, Crecy, 100 years war, French and Indian War, Waterloo, Trafalgar, WW1 (bail out) & WW2 (once again) Oh, and Dien Bien Phu (your "Nam" too)
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR "Kid"? You are the one in their 20s who was afraid of the dark when you watched Alien. Now you fascinate in gaming all your fantasy games. You know how I know, so don't deny it. France's surrender after 6 weeks of battle hits pretty hard doesn't it? So, you are saying that the French fighting with superior weapons, were mauling the Germans right up to the point the French surrendered? LOL educated? I don't have some Vichy ego doubling numbers. LOL
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR Actually (and factually) France in 1939 had 41.6 vs. 76 million German population. Steel output was 6.2 vs. 23.1 million tonnes. So much for your historical "facts" (where do you get this BS?). Better equipped? More like never fired and dropped once weapons. You keep talking about the "Free French Forces", how about a number? What is depressing is, the other (Vichy) French were junior Nazis. Huge mistake but eventually you learned as well, better late I suppose.
DougsterCanada1 1 year ago
@0311SECFOR LOL, I am Canadian. I guess the name wasn't enough of a clue. I seem to recall us showing up. Do you honestly think the French could have pulled their tit out of the ringer without help? I actually don't recall it being "America's" war in the beginning or for that matter Canada's either. Poland was invaded Sept 1, 1939, then the "Phoney War" until May 10, 1940. Last to surrender? What after 6 weeks of "real war"? Please, no more French history, it's depressing.

Next time, do it yourself or learn German, I could care less.

Before D Day Starlin had been asking for a new front in Europe for quite sometime as he needed it too take the pressure off the eastern front and too buy him some time. If it hadn't been for D Day and the Axis troops that were pulled from Russia as reinforcements for the fight in France, Russia would have taken alot longer to beat the Axis force's that they were up against.
anzacproud 1 year ago
We can argue about whether the Russians needed help or if pre-invasion bombardament of Normandy was murder of the French. What is not arguable is the assertion by this narrator that the armies of the "United Nations" were going to be involved in D-Day. It was the "Allied Nations'" armies. Preserving history is one thing, mis-stating it in the attempt is recklessness. Lousy writing thru-out.
clouser67 1 year ago

The turning point of the war was not this it was Stalingrad. The normandy invasion helped end the war quicker but Russia was going to take Berlin regardless. We the US didnt even need to invade Europe, Russia was already doing a good job at this point of the war.

There were numerous turning points in the war depending on which front you're talking about
Turning points on the Eastern Front: Stalingrad and Kursk
Turning points in North Africa: El Alamain and Operation: Torch
Turning points in the Pacific: Midway and Guadalcanal
Turning points on the Western Front: D-Day and the resulting Normandy Campaign

@quest8899 Absolutely, but without the Western Allies supplying the Soviet Union, I believe the Germans would of taken more strategic points which would take maybe a couple more years to for the Soviets to fight off. (It is logistically impossible for Germany to take over all of the Soviet Union)
Just playing devil's advocate.
rex22neo 10 months ago
@quest8899 yes but without the us. invasion of normandy germany would have taked britain and would have occupied Europes west coast
jeffry477 10 months ago
@jeffry477 See, here's a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation in Europe in WW2. Nazi-Germany lacked the air power, naval power and intelligence to ever successfully invade Britain. Thay proved this by being unable to break the RAF in the Battle of Britain and by being unable to mount a serious threat to the Royal Navy once the Bismarck was sunk. Germany could never have invaded Britain during WW2 - regardless of whether the actually wanted to or not - they simply lacked the capacity.
11nytram11 10 months ago
@jeffry477 By the time of Operation Overlord, Nazi-Germany had deployed most of its strenght to the Eastern Theater and could never hope to mount a serious threat as far as a cross-channel invasion went. Their only possible window of opportunity was after the battle of France in 1940 but they missed that window and allowed the British to recover. Nazi-Germany could have kept hold of continental Europe if they made peace with Britain but capturing the British Isles was beyond their capabilities.
11nytram11 10 months ago
@11nytram11 They didn't let the british recover, they were bombing their factories before they could even think about preparing for an invasion. When the Americans enterd the war, they started bombing germany with the help of the RAF. Germany had hundreds of opporunities. Making peace with the British wouldnt have done anything
jeffry477 10 months ago
@jeffry477 So Nazi-Germany didn't hesitate to attack at Dunkirk allowing 300,000 British, French and Belgian soliders to evacuate? The didn't shift their bombing from air bases to Cities just because the British bombed Berlin? They had the British basically beaten in France and had they captured the troops at Dunkirk Britian would have to had capitulated but they let them escape, they had the RAF on the ropes but gave them breathing space by shifting to attack cities.
11nytram11 10 months ago
@jeffry477 It has been argued that Hitler didn't want to invade Britain, that he was worried about America and Japan taking over British Overseas Territories if the UK was occupied so he let the British escape and deliberately made Sealion a half-assed plan that he never intended to use. Wether that's right or not the Germany took the pressure off of the British in two crucial occaisons and allowed them to recover their strength and continue the war.
11nytram11 10 months ago
@jeffry477 When Nazi-Germany were bombing towns and cities and factories if did nothing to stop the production of British War material. The rate of production for Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarie Spitfires increased when the Luftwaffe shifted their attacks from airbases, the British Army was resupplied with modern fire-arms and artillery, tanks were still produced and sent to the Mediterranean and lent to the Soviet Union. Britain continued to be productive throughout the Blitz.
11nytram11 10 months ago
@11nytram11 Yes but making peace with the British still wouldn't have done anything, After Nazi-Germany invaded Poland, Britain wasn't going to make a peace with germany until they were stopped.
jeffry477 10 months ago
@11nytram11 BECAUSE OF THE AMERICANS! The americans were making all the war supplies for europe at the time. why do you think America is the #1 world power Because our economy sky rocketed during ww2
jeffry477 9 months ago
@jeffry477 And exactly where did I say that America wasn't the top producer of war materials during the war years? Where, exactly, did I say that the American economy didn't sky rocket during WW2?
America did very well out of both WW1 and WW2, taking advantage of Britain's heavy involvement in those conflicts to surpass Britain as the top economic power in the world.
Still doesn't change the fact that Nazi-Germany never came close to invading the UK, let alone conquering it.
11nytram11 9 months ago 9
England would have starved even before Hitler invaded England without American intervention. We supplied ammo, food, medicine, and supplies long before we officially entered the war. Hitler had rockets and would continue to bomb England. It was only a matter of time before England surrendered. The United States did not "take advantage" of Britain, it was your war not ours. Britain has fought with other countries for centuries. Britain invaded poor countries and stole their resources.
goombabear 6 months ago
@goombabear The US acted in its own self-interest. It's what it has always done and what it always will do. The US are not to be blamed for doing so however because it was natural thing to do. Had the situation been reversed the British would not have thought twice before manipulating the situation so it profitted from it. I'm not criticizing the US for doing this but what I am rallying against is this idea that the US acted out of charity and got nothing in return, because that's a lie.
11nytram11 6 months ago
@goombabear Furthermore the Nazi's were completely incapable of blocking the United Kingdom off from the rest of the world. They didn't have the strength at sea to do it. Their airforce was unable to secure superiority over the RAF in part due to bad command decision and in part through British technological superiority. They didn't develop rockets until 1944/1945 and rockets weren't going to win the war for them, they were a last ditch effort to avert the Allies conquest.
11nytram11 6 months ago
@goombabear You may want to criticise Britan for its imperial past but dont try to rewrite WW2. The fact is the Nazi's never came close to forcing Britain to surrender & the US were perfectly happy to sit on the sidelines without getting involved & trade war material and supplies for money, military bases & state secrets.
Before taking the moral high ground and criticizing the British for invading poor countries and stealing their resources look at US expanisist history. It's hardly any better.
11nytram11 6 months ago
@11nytram11 Why should we get involved in your war? In addition, Americans did help by sending supplies. You are the revisionist, get a college degree and maybe you will learn the facts. Our expansion involved buying land from France and Russia. We are not blameless, but your expansion involved invading the world. Britian has a long history of picking fights with France, Spain, Benelux, etc. I am not taking the moral high ground, however if you do not want to be judged, don't judge others.
goombabear 6 months ago

11nytram11 6 months ago
@goombabear An I didn't judge the US at all. I stated the fact that the US used the two world wars to gain financial superiority over the British, that they were perfectly within their rights and happy to remain neutral and profit from the conflicts and that the Nazi's never came close to invading Britain. You were the person who brought imperialism into this so dont try to pass the buck onto me. If you dont want your own dirty imperialist past to be mention dont criticise other nations for it.
11nytram11 6 months ago

Ahornblatt2000 5 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Nobody let the B.E.F escape, The Germans thought the Allies were trapped with no-escape, Nobody ever thought that 300,000 Allied troops would be evacuated in such short time. And Britain was never defenceless, The Royal navy made it impossible for any invasion of Britain. The British Industry were able to recover from Dunkirk very fast. It was impossible to even invade Britain, Never mind defeating the British Empire. Dunkirk was just a set back.
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 Off course let Hitler the BEF escape. His famous order to stop before Dunkurk is well known and nobody knows really the reasons behind.Second landing in England; How can the Royal Navy prevent an airborne attack, next time please read more carefully. And last;the British defence industry was a joke except for the Navy. You relied on the US,they eqipped you in every way.MOre than 50% of your gear was American made the Shermann Tank for example
Ahornblatt2000 5 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Hitler never let the Allies escape at Dunkirk, The Germans thought the Allies were trapped with no-escape, It was Goering who promised Hitler the Luftwaffe would take care of the trapped Allies. Nobody ever thought that 300,000 Allies troops could be evacuated in such short time, It was seen as impossible!!! And are you honestly trying to tell me that Airborne units could take Britain, Its insane! And the U.S didnt even give Britain a lendlease till 1941, They sold things MONEY!
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 Okay believe what you want.Maybe you want to hear what Christopher Foxley-Norris retired Air chief marshall of the RAF has to say about invading England with airborne units.Look here it starts at 7:min first the Germans then your Air Marshal
How hitler lost the war Part 3
/watch?v=UF6eDVypUEc&feature=related
And think of Crete it was taken airborne too
Ahornblatt2000 5 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 You have to realise invading Britain by Air is just stupid, How could the Axis supply there troops? The British had over 400,000+ troops in England 1940, Invasion by Air was impossible and insane. The R.A.F could wipe out Axis invasion out the Air, Even if they got a successful landing they would last 10minutes before they ran out of Supplies. Invasion by Air is stupid when you think about it, Britain had access to endless resources, men from her Empire,Connections,ENGLISH NATIONS
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 I'm getting tired of your guys. Why don't you read more carefully so i don't have it to repeat me.That applies to you and all other guys who are to come after you.Watch "HOw Hitler lost the war".Watch part 3 and 4.There GErmans and British who lived and fought back then are talking about invading England.Just hear what your own Air marshall has to say what he says about in what condition UK had been in summer 1940.In a nutshell "We had nothing"
Ahornblatt2000 5 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Invading Britain by Air would be impossible due to many reason to think about it, Even if they got a successful landing they would be outnumbered and would run out supplies with 10minutes. Invading Britain by Sea was impossible due to the Royal Navy, The European Axis didnt even navy in the same league. British Industry produced 100 Spitfires, 100 Hurricanes every week, Supplies,Troops came from around the Empire. Invading Britain=IMPOSSIBLE just think about it,
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 You mean as impossible as beating the combined forces of France and Britain in 3 weeks? The channel is only 30-35 km wide and you want to tell me it's impossible to supply them by air?And they wouldn't be outnumbered unless you would send your men with nothing more than their bare hands on the battlefield. You left everything behind you in Dunkirk, remember? The Royal Navy is obselet on land and RAF alone wouldn't be able to prevent it.I was possible for a certain time!
Ahornblatt2000 5 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 The British had half million troops in Britain 1940, Also thousand Air-craft, The British had tanks, etc and Industry to support there war-effort. Lets say by some miracle 100,000 Axis troops were able to invade by Air and got a successful landing, They would be outnumbered and would run out supplies, You say the Axis could supply there troops by Air? Whitch is impossible look at Stalingrad? Its impossible to invade Britain by Air or Sea, Hitler knew it!
martynrobin121 5 months ago
@martynrobin121 You know what?Believe what you want i don't care.Don't bother me anymore!
Ahornblatt2000 5 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 You do realise it was impossible for the Axis to invade Britain by Sea, Due to the Royal Navy. It was impossible to invade Britain by Air due to the R.A.F, You keep saying the Germans could have invaded by Air, THINK ABOUT IT, Thats foolish, Even with a successful landing, They would be outnumbered and would runout supplies within days. Just think about it, It was impossible to invade. Churchill knew it, And so did Hitler.
martynrobin121 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 The Kriegsmarine proved entirely incapable of gaining dominance over the Royal Navy, not once did the Nazis ever gain control of British waters. The Royal Navy was far from obsolete and posed a major challenge to any continental force that wanted to invade Britiain. Without dominance of the Channel - at least - the Nazis could not bring any heavy material to Britain and would not be able to supply and invasion force easilly or sent reinforcements quickly.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 The Luftwaffe proved incapable of neutralizing the RAF. They had the opportunity but Goering allowed Hitler to shift the focus from RAF Bases to Cities following a night-raid on Berlin & lost it. From that point on the RAF got stronger & stronger while the Luftwaffe weakened. Without the RAF being neutralized any air-bourne invasion of Britian would not go uncontested, nor would follow up drops of supplies or reinforcements. Aireal doiminace was key to any invasion of the UK.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Certainly, even without neutralizing the RAF or gaining dominance over the Royal Navy, an invasion of the UK was possible but it would never be ultimately successful. The Nazis would struggle to reinforce or resupply any force they landing, there would be no great Panzer Division tearing up the British countryside nor would their be massed heavy artillery support for the Paratroopers and everyday that passed would make the invasion force weaker while strengthening the British.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 And not everything was left behind on Dunkirk. Much of the heavy material like tanks and field artillery were but most of the small-arms were brough back and there was enough heavy material in Britain to arm two divisions - a small amount really. The British industry to then driven into replacing the heavy material lost while the UK also bought heavy material off of the US. This re-armament would take a few months but even so it made the window of opporutinty very small.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Actually, the order not to attack the BEF at Dunkirk came from Gerd von Rundstedt, not Hitler. He did this because he was not convinced that the Panzer Units could take the BEF positions without infantry support & when the British were retreating across the Channel he forbade any attack against the beaches both becuase he believed German resources would be better spent in an attack south to finish off the French & Georing was convinced the Luftwaffe could finish of the BEF alone.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@11nytram11 There are so many theories about the halt before Dunkirk.Which one is true?It doesn't matter.Look at Crete and check what happened there and you will see although the RN controlled the sea it couldn't prevent the attack and most important the subsequent GErman convoys. The Air Force has always the upper hand ina contest with the Navy. The Channel isn't wide some would have come through and with any airport captured in UK our chances for success would have risen and yours declined!
Ahornblatt2000 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Crete is a much smaller place than the UK and didn't need any heavy material to conquer it. Furthermore there was not even a quarter of the airial strenght available for the defense of Crete as there was for the defense of the UK. And the Germans lost a high percentage of their paratrooper forces in the Battle of Crete - paratrooper operations generally proved to be high casualty affiars.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 And you seemed to have missed my point. The Germans may be able to land on British soiled but they could never keep their supply routes open so long as the RAF and Royal Navy were not neutralized. Any SEALION type invasion of the UK was never going to be the Axis equivilent of OVERLORD. The Germans failed singularly in the two main areas they have to succeed to successful invade Britan and knock it out of the war - Airial Superiority and Naval Superiority.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Since neither the Kreigsmarine nor the Luftwaffe were able to achieve their targets of neutralizing the RAF or Royal Navy there was no way to insure that German troops and equipment could be landed on the British mainland nor to insure that supplies or reinforcements could reach them. As such SEALION was scrapped. The failure of the German military and leadership during this time is clear for all to see.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 You cite the upper hand of the Air Force as a factor in the Nazis favor yet you seem to be overlooking the fact that the RAF was fully capable, since before even Dunkirk, of challenging the Luftwaffe's dominance, specifically over the UK, so any attempt by the Luftwaffe to attack RN ships in the Channel - in a Nazis invasion of the UK scenario - will be opposed by the RAF. If only the Rodney or King George V evaded the Luftwaffe then the Nazi invasion plans would be scuppered
11nytram11 4 months ago
@Ahornblatt2000 Since there were no proper troop transport ships in the Germans employ and the plan was for troops to be transported across the channel in river Barges just one of the Royal Navy's Battleships would be enough to overwhelm the invasion force and drive it back. And the British had more than enough Ships in the Home Fleet to risk some being damaged or sunk to prevent a German invasion, especially when the Germans had failed to get Aireal superiority.
11nytram11 4 months ago
@11nytram11 oh I believe that the UK could've been invaded if it hadn't been for their brave pilots... and if that had happened, the war might've gone in a different direction... Thankfully, they had those daredevils. But I'm no expert on the subject.

Ironknucks 1 month ago
