  • He was Bill Evans's greatest influence. Two lovely men I'd wish to celebrate.

  • the greatest voice that ever lived!

  • @nkcbrazil

I'd be a fool, not to agree.

  • Perhaps the most distinquished voice we have every birthed. This is magic...Yet, he could not walk in the front door of restaurants and hotels all over America.

  • I love his performance and the song as well......so melanccholy

  • i love this vperformance. but i wish there was higher fidelity recording....

  • @helmet959 Agreed. Lovely song, just always could use a better recording. ;( So sad that this young generation knows nothing of these inspirational artists.

  • He did more than justice to this song.

  • Yow! Oscar Peterson was musical royalty, as well...

  • Como pode um piano ser tão melodioso e nervoso ao mesmo tempo?

  • @Edgarmatos Magic!

  • So was I. Beautiful music....

  • I was born in the wrong decade...

  • @The882mel seriously now!!!!!

  • One of my favorites singer ever. Thanks a lots for sharing!!!

  • ISTO E O QUE CHAMAMOS DE UMA VOZ PERFEITA, FANTÁSTICA, DIVINA....

  • Solo fantástico do Oscar Peterson em 1957; Até desanima...

  • such a voice. there is nothing that he sings that I don't like. Such ease.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • I can dig it.

  • i am 19 and obsessed! and have been since the first time my dad played his cd! love it

  • Heavenly. Sorry to seem a grumpy old man but class like this doesn't exist today.... and that includes Oscar's piano

  • what a golden age !!!!!!!!!

  • Well, TerryC . . . Love Your Comment!!! Try to think a good thought for me when you walk through the lobby!!!

    This music IS Heavenly!

    Gary---Arizona's #1 Atheist

  • check out the ben webster version, to die for

  • How cool can it get? No cooler I suspect.

  • i wish more people my age (teen) would listen to this kind of music as much as the other kinds, i know i do. i have so much respect for music, I LOVE IT!

it sucks how they dont even know this kind of music exists..

  • @elchillipicante I am well aware of it as well, and I am a teen. I enjoy Nat King Cole very, very much.

  • @elchillipicante im here with ya!

  • My dad always played alot of Nat King Cole when i was little. even his songs in spanish. (im mexican) im glad my dad has an appreciation for this kind of music because it gave me a chance to know what real music really was. I listen to hip hop, always have always will but i MUST TAKE MY HAT OFF FOR MR. COLE. its because of him & other artist/musicians like him that i can bob my head to the beats that have been sampled from this genre! Im very glad that my dad played this music for me as a child!

  • i know Nat King Cole influenced Oscar Peterson, but I must say. I prefer Nat King Cole's playing

  • Lindo

  • This is the group that plays in the lobby when you enter Heaven......

  • I'm too old! I can listen to him anymore without crying tenderly.

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO MEN THEY USED TO BE SMOOTH, CLEAN CUT AND GENTLE NOWS NOTHING BUT SAGGING PANTS AND PROFANITY USED IN THE PURSUIT OF WOMEN

  • Shiniest piano ever!

  • Masterful! Classic song- awesome singing- superb playing- great arrangement, with the touches from the orchestra (and love the way the singing is in 3, then the swinging solo in 4). And this was on TV....

  • Oi...that voice could melt away a week's worth of trouble in seconds. Sweet piano too.

  • A kingship that has to be splitted without self-seekness.

They were and are indeed light beings of music who fulfilled their missions here on Earth, and presently are singing somehere beyond the sidereal space.

Imortals who sings all over the universes.

  • Wonderful Nat King Cole!

  • Mind boggling! Nat with Oscar!

  • There just is no comparison to the smooth, effortless flowing music that this man produced.

It's hard to grasp the fact that he smoked and was still able to make such swwet music!

  • Favorite performance of the song. Well, outside of the Electric Mayhem, naturally.

  • oh if we only had music like this today......

such beautiful bittersweet memories in these songs of the past

  • "...then you and I came wandering by, and lost in a sigh were we..."

some of the most romantic lyrics I've ever heard.

  • Your aaaarrrrrmmms opened wiiiiidddde. And closed me insiiiiiiiiiiide. You took my lips, you took my loooove. Soo Tenderlyyyyyyyy.

  • ...beautiful lyrics. Makes you think of meeting your true love on a random stroll through the park on a summer's day.

  • Ray Brown on Bass

    Herb Ellis on Guitar

Wasnt that Ben Webster on Sax?

  • Effortless and relaxed was Mr. Cole

  • This is too riche- the best voice & the best piano accompaniment, it can cause gout!

  • You are so right a joyful overload for the senses, but too addictive to obstain!!

  • I was born in 1956, reared in Alabama & one of the few pleasures of coming from there, was knowing that the King was also!

  • Oscar Peterson trio feature

  • Perfecto!

  • You don't think that Oscars 'more out front than accompaniment' role was agreed upon before hand? It sounds to me like Nat is singing the song gracefully and welcoming of Oscar's elegant yet impressive noodling. And than taking it into a double time during his solo.

It would be wonderful if music of this quality was presented more on mainstream TV in our present times. Bear in mind, back then, only 3 channels to choose from. I love it. 5 stars.

  • One of my favorite songs! I love the Jackie Gleason version the best, but this version is awesome too!

  • Mr. Cole was/is velvet.

  • Never noticed Oscar Peterson was a freakn' giant

  • Oscar's a bit too busy behind the vocal. But that was his nature. Anyway, an indeed magical moment in jazz.

Thanks so much for posting it.

    Bruno

  • I was thinking the same thing as I was watching and listening before reading the comments. definitely too busy for an accompaniment. Just a hair though.

  • Thanks for putting this video up, I love to see Nat Sing every chance I get.

  • there was only one King and its not elvis or frank or michael jackson it Nat King Cole...

  • @jkoncz there is BB King ..

  • @joy1ess sorry bb couldn't carry nat's cigarettes!!

  • @jkoncz I think the same.Pienso lo mismo. I love Frank Sinatra and Michael jackson but I think the bestt singer int all the world is Nat King Cole

  • @lauradicommo you are so young yet you know wonderful talent when you hear it. Congrats my dear keep up the good work!!

  • @jkoncz And that king is B.B. King.

  • @jkoncz Agreed! I love Sinatra, but this guy's voice was about as smooth as it gets. I'm a rock musician, but I love listening to these old jazz standards. Between him on vocals and Coltrain on sax there's a world of jazz to keep me listening over and over.

  • @jkoncz I love all of the above, but that's not cool! You're disrespecting some really great people. So I love you and hate you all at the same time- can't we just love everybody? Stop picking favorites... i mean it's all an opinion but legends like these cannot live on forever if we're constantly narrow minded, closing off our point of view to those who we view as 'THE BEST' or from those who we view as 'THE WORST.' THe one nice thing about oldies is that there is such a variety, unlike 2day

  • you are absolutely right ;)

  • magical moments.
