Perhaps the most distinquished voice we have every birthed. This is magic...Yet, he could not walk in the front door of restaurants and hotels all over America.
@helmet959 Agreed. Lovely song, just always could use a better recording. ;( So sad that this young generation knows nothing of these inspirational artists.
i wish more people my age (teen) would listen to this kind of music as much as the other kinds, i know i do. i have so much respect for music, I LOVE IT!
it sucks how they dont even know this kind of music exists..
My dad always played alot of Nat King Cole when i was little. even his songs in spanish. (im mexican) im glad my dad has an appreciation for this kind of music because it gave me a chance to know what real music really was. I listen to hip hop, always have always will but i MUST TAKE MY HAT OFF FOR MR. COLE. its because of him & other artist/musicians like him that i can bob my head to the beats that have been sampled from this genre! Im very glad that my dad played this music for me as a child!
Masterful! Classic song- awesome singing- superb playing- great arrangement, with the touches from the orchestra (and love the way the singing is in 3, then the swinging solo in 4). And this was on TV....
A kingship that has to be splitted without self-seekness.
They were and are indeed light beings of music who fulfilled their missions here on Earth, and presently are singing somehere beyond the sidereal space.
You don't think that Oscars 'more out front than accompaniment' role was agreed upon before hand? It sounds to me like Nat is singing the song gracefully and welcoming of Oscar's elegant yet impressive noodling. And than taking it into a double time during his solo.
It would be wonderful if music of this quality was presented more on mainstream TV in our present times. Bear in mind, back then, only 3 channels to choose from. I love it. 5 stars.
I was thinking the same thing as I was watching and listening before reading the comments. definitely too busy for an accompaniment. Just a hair though.
@jkoncz Agreed! I love Sinatra, but this guy's voice was about as smooth as it gets. I'm a rock musician, but I love listening to these old jazz standards. Between him on vocals and Coltrain on sax there's a world of jazz to keep me listening over and over.
@jkoncz I love all of the above, but that's not cool! You're disrespecting some really great people. So I love you and hate you all at the same time- can't we just love everybody? Stop picking favorites... i mean it's all an opinion but legends like these cannot live on forever if we're constantly narrow minded, closing off our point of view to those who we view as 'THE BEST' or from those who we view as 'THE WORST.' THe one nice thing about oldies is that there is such a variety, unlike 2day
He was Bill Evans's greatest influence. Two lovely men I'd wish to celebrate.
