I hate how the cops keep saying "deceased body." What other kind of a body would it have been? A person who's laying down for a nap isn't usually referred to as "a body."
She (survivor) was lucky to be pregnant, the increased amount of blood in her body to feed the baby is probably all that kept her from bleeding to death.
I know he killed all those women and thats also a tragedy, but what kind of monster attacks a pregnant woman?!! absolutely no reverence for life no remorse a pure psychopath. it sometimes seems like there's no punishment enough for monsters like that!
The sad truth is that there will be no police around when you need them. So the answer is to learn how best to avoid confrontation or abduction and if it is unavoidable to have in your mind actions you are prepared to take to survive. Learn how to use and apply weapons and be fully ready and prepared to use them. I'm 5ft tall and 97 lbs and I would have no problem in defending myself because I am not a victim type. You should always know your surroundings, always have an escape route.
I remember when the survivor got attacked. I worked in the area and will never forget reading about her in the paper (Keene Sentinel). I'm glad she and her baby made it. I was in shock when I saw this program. I remember thinking about the fear she must have felt. :-(
I think there is a grave lesson here and it's just this; Never Hitch hike! Do not talk to people on the phone at 2 AM and do not stop at rest stops! I hate rest stops! Weirdos are everywhere, be aware of your surroundings, if you feel like you're in danger high tail it the heck outta there!
All very good points. But in the case of these poor women, you have to take into account that this was a very different time. In the early to mid-1980's, it was very common for people in small towns like this to hitchhike. Crime was next to non-existent. People didn't even lock their doors back in those days.
And in the case of Ellen Fried, she didn't even have a phone in her house. That's why she was talking on a payphone.
@Andymmb Hell, I live in a small New England town and I still don't know anybody who locks their doors. I think people in small towns just don't have that fear because there isn't any anonymity like in a city, you don't think anybody you know is going to hurt you, so if you know everyone in your town you believe you're safe. Luckily crimes like these are usually the exception and not the rule.
@Jessabelle2188 good advice- i once watched a show like this and the serial killer said they way he was able to kill so easily is the fact that most people have "tunnel vision" being so caught up in the own personal business, that they tend not to be aware of their surroundings. check under yourcar and in your car's back seat before you get in, and personally, every single time I enter my home, I make a conscious scan of my surroundings, be it nighttime or daytime.
I hear that. I was reading some articles on this case and it said Barbara Agnew was just several miles from her home when she pulled into this rest stop and met up with the killer. Crazy.
What really is strange to me, is that the attempted murder in the parking lot, occurred at my families convenience store, they have operated it for decades, and to this day, it is still in operation.
It makes you wonder about a person who kills for fun!! It's one thing to have a fight with someone & things go too far. But to stalk & kill women that's just really, really sick! I say a group of women need to get together & stalk this f&*ker & give him a taste of his own medicine, slowly.
"The grandkids are great but Michelle was a slut!"
Hmm...yeah... That's not suspicious-sounding at all.... *rolls eyes*

A pregnant mother and her unborn child survived 27 stab wounds!? And I thought 50cent was a bad ass for surviving 9 shots.
