@dinkipooxa,I am a classical guitar concert artist. I hate speed just for the sake of speed. Most of the times I prefer slow music where each note is expressed with care. However, this piece requires speed and more or less evenness of rhythm, other ways it stop sounding like ... the bees. And yes, I have played this piece in concerts. Enno does a wonderful rendition. Berta's version is nice too but for this piece I prefer Enno's more even rythm and bees like color of sound.
@dinkipooxa I do not agree with your comment. This piece is supposed to be played fast, very fast and Enno does a wonderful job with the clear notes and with the expression of the piece. Comparisons like the one you made (Berta Rojas Vs Enno) or comments like "nobody does it like such..." are childish and ridiculous.
Thats the best performance of this piece i've heard... so far, great technique, and i think is just the right tempo... he captures the escense of this Amazig piece and one of the best latin-american composers from the XX century ;)
he plays awesome. That took care of my first impression of him being a sleezy charmer that would go on a date with a rose between his teeth. and right at the end he shakes his head so that the image sticks >.<
Excellent! I just found your video and I am impressed with your artistry and technique. I used to be a concert guitarist (until tendinitis damaged my arm) and because of that I can appreciate your amazing level of playing. Thanks for the wonderful music.
Esta bueno como toca el maestro, Agustin Barrios nacio en Paraguay, pero de padres argentinos,un genio. It's good like the master plays, don't say boludeces, it's so hard to get that level, if you search musica argentina billoni on you tube, will find a gato, play by my father and follow by me, badly, thanks saludos a todos desde cordoba
Las Abejas is supposed to "sound like a group of bees hovering around a beautiful sunflower field to take nectar." Did the "spirit" of Barrios tell you that? Do you have a Ouija board to summon the ghosts of various dead (yes they are DEAD) composers to tell you how a piece should go? I think its much more likely thou art nothing but the composition of a knave, beggar, coward, pandar, and the son and heir of a mungril bitch. But Shakespeare composed the words, i am just the performer.
Sorry...but your notion of a good performer is just WRONG. A good performer is the one who understands and follows the spirit of the composer...it is not up to you how you play Chopin or Mozart or Beethoven...it is up to them...they are the artists not you. And FYI Barrios IS NOT DEAD. He is very alive in the hearts of the thousands of paraguayans and non-paraguayans who love and appreciate his productions. Anyone who thinks like you shouldn't be playing his works in the first place.
A performer is not an artist? Did you learn about music from reading Mussolini? What authority do you have to tell others whether their interpretations are legit or not? You insist that if people don't play music by YOUR standards, its "just an interpretation." what do you mean "just?" Your idea of how a piece should sound is "just" another interpretation. Anyone who attempts to dictate interpretation down the throat of a performer is not a very good composer anyway. Music needs to breathe.
@Hektor88 it is not MY standards...it is the COMPOSER standards, the way he meant the piece to be played...it's not my authority, it's the COMPOSER's authority, he has the right to tell other whether their interpretations are legit or not...
@iamreallyfree But if the composer is dead, how are you supposed to know how he wanted it played or not? Regardless of how Barrios may have wanted this piece to be played, a performer is perfectly within his authority to add his own touches. The difference of iterpretation is what makes music worth listening too.
@Hektor88 for 2 reasons...one the composer doesnt just whistle the song and then its played...he formally writes a piece of music on paper with specific instructions on how it has to be played...second...he had friends...people he used to talk to who knew him and the way he wanted his music to be played. A performer may add his touches but that doesnt make the intrepretation good..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
and I don' t think it was great at all...it's way too fast..it is supposed to sound like a group of bees hovering around a beautiful sunflower field to take nectar and not like a swarm of killer bees ready to attack.
Anyone who knows the story of this piece and Agustin Barrios knows how it is expected to sound. It is definitely not up to the performer how to play it, there is a composer who created the piece and decided how it should be played....if you don't play it that way it's just an adaptation.
How a performer interprets a piece is just as important as how the composer writes it. A good performer isn't just a robot that spits back out the notes on the page anymore than a good actor simply recites the lines. It's up to them to bring it to life and to add humanity to it. To put it bluntly, Barrios is long dead, and doesn't care anymore. Don't get all butt-hurt because YOU would play it differently. Different interpretations are what make music worth listening too.
this makes me regret I didn't play classical guitar for so long .. really miss to play this piece
