  • well its a song that will he in my heart forever and always you make us manx people proud bee gees manx through and trhough

  • ¡¡¡ QUE CANCIÒN MÀS HERMOSA,...Y ROBIN LA CANTA QUE ES "UNA MARAVILLA" !!!

CONGRATULATIONS A LOS "BEE GEES" (EN ESPECIAL A ROBIN GIBB)!!!!

  • wow! this is such a beautiful song and with that voice, a perfect combination. I love you Robin.

  • merry christmas guys and all the best for 2012 :-)

  • Robin's singing is unique, no equal - whether you like it or not.

God bless him through his today's struggles. I do hope he'll make it.

  • I was 7 when this show aired but i still remember watching the whole thing with my mum and i watched it countless times on vhs. I do love the bee gees, people just don't make music like this anymore. Its so true and heartfelt.

  • What a great song.

  • Les annees DISCO....... Magnifique !!!!

  • I'm not from IOM and I've no connection to it, but this song, with those lyrics and that God given voice have been enough to bring the hairs up on the back of my neck. Absolutely astounding.

  • They said unofficial anthem, if that makes a difference.

Love the Gibb brothers. Beautiful voices and music.

  • Brings back so many memories of a close friend John who sadly passed in the IOM in a bike crash, so long missed so much

  • this is not the National anthem of the isle of man.. the manx National anthem is Oh Land Of Our Birth..

  • lol @ "Where ever you throw us we land on our feet"

  • Happy memories of my childhood living in Peel Isle of Man in 1953.

  • this reminds me or my grandma :'( it was played at her funeral.......sent off like a true manxie!

  • This performance from Robin makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand.

He is arguably one of the greatest male vocalists of all time.

His voice is godgiven and heaven sent. What a performance,What a voice.

This ranks as one of the greatest vocal displays ive ever seen.Pure class

    From London - UK

  • This song makes me proud to be manx (and so does our proper national anthem XD) thumbs up if your manx and you agree =3

  • can you get ellan vannin on cd

    cs1

  • I remember Watching this whole show with my Mum and Dad back in 1998 :) an Awesome Show, I think My Dad may also have it on VHS somewhere

  • Para sempre Bee Gees......para sempre..

  • lovely place, this brings back many memories of my time stationed at jurby

  • the bee gees flat in the isle of man is at the end of my road, tiny place really.

  • love this song i am irish but my young lad is manx i lived there for 6 years and loved it

  • love this song i am irish but i lived in isle of man for 6 years and i have a young lad and i am proud he is manx

  • For the record.... Ellan Vannin is not the Manx National Anthem; not even the unofficial anthem. The Manx national anthem is "Land of our Birth". Ellan Vannin is sometimes referred to as our national hymn. Nice that the Bee Gees brought it to a broad audience, but they did change the words. It's the sea, nor the ocean. Cringe. Nice try,

  • Have I missed something or did not Robin say it's the 'Unofficial' National Anthem???

  • @gk954183 Actually, this song isn't the anthem. The Isle of Man's anthem is "O Land Of Our Birth."

  • This song makes me proud to be Manx.

  • This heart- rendering version reminded me of my music lessons at Murray's Rd School in Douglas, where we would occasionally sing it, but in no way as passionate or as meaningful as Robin Gibbs....I shall make sure it is played at my dismissal, when the time comes.......Thank you the Bee Gees!

  • I'll keep on searching ... It's a must-have !!!!

    Thx for re.

  • I am looking for this dvd, is there one ? I think it's called "an audience with"

    Can't find it ......

  • @wolfje1962

Only a limited amount of this on cd including a set of Bee Gee stamps and could have only been bought on the Isle of Man, I have tried to get An audience with the Bee Gee's but sadly this song is missing from the dvd and my original from the tv prog. has been "accidentally" overwrittien by my husband. If anyone can tell me where I can get the full version of that show please let me know.

  • my paternal grandfather was manx also his 13 bros and sisters so i am part manx/english i have listened to the instrumental tune of ellan vannin for years but when this first came on the tv it was actually the first time i had heard the words sung, i had them written down but never heard it, i am proud to be part Manx and i have the 3 legs of Man tattooed on my back (the only tattoo my mum approves of!!) great performance xx

  • Best group, best voice, best music ever!

  • I have my Family on the Aisle of Man. It's not that large, and am sure the Bee Gees are looked Highly upon. Love this Anthem.

  • Are you kidding me? Holy crap! Two notes in, Robin had tears streaming down my face. Lord, what a song. . . what a singer...

  • Beautiful.

  • Primo Bee Gees. Wonderful song. I purchased the special disc and commenorative stamp set when they were issued. First time I heard this song, it gave me chills. And I fell in love all over again.

  • Ever since I heard this played on manx radio years ago, I've been searching for it (now If I could just get it on MP3 I'd be all set) - thanks for sharing this its appreciated!

  • @Nyxks If you want, I will send you an MP3 of it, ripped from my CD. Give me an email address and it's yours.

  • Love this song!

  • Yes ,Ive looked for this song for a long time years ago,,and finally found it. Saw the Bee Gees in Canada many years ago,my favourite group . love them...

  • Absolutely lovely tune. My favorite of their tunes and i love the boyz loads

  • Will someone from IOM please explain the significance of the name "Ellan Vannin?" This is a beautiful, powerful song and Robin's rendition is touching. ~from Maine, USA

  • The Isle of Man is known as Ellan Vannin

Ellan is Manx for island; Vannin is the genitive case of Mannin, and means of Mann. in manx

  • Manx Gaelic for Isle of Man

  • Thank you both for responding.

  • I've been looking for this song for years. Thanks very much for sharing.

  • Robin did come back and now lives just outside of Peel (Peel mean a defensive tower) I prefer the Manks (Port of the Island)

Gothic Diamond. I assume you are not that old so I may have missed you at Yn Chruinnaght.

    Gothic diamond =sintia

  • then it rises like a vision " brilliant

  • I cried through this video. My grandmother was also born on the Isle of Man in 1886 and left her childhood home when she was 16 to come to America. She lived to be 98, and yes the Manx are tough and sturdy folk. She frequently spoke of the Isle of Man. She always longed to return to her homeland. Thank you to the Bee Gees for singing this wonderful song and remembering their homeland.

  • Definitely THE voice of the Beegees.

  • Comment removed

  • Hello.

Just to clarify - this song is not the Manx National Anthem - it is the Manx National Song (quite close to the hearts of the manx) - i see how it could be confused so i thought i'd clear it up.

I love this song and have performed it many times when i was a little girl in the Celtic festival - Yn Chruinnaght.

    x

    Celtic festival Yn Chruinnaght

  • I love this song.Have the BeeGees ever recorded it?

  • magnificent the voice of the bee gees

  • What a lovely song and Robin's voice is so amazing it gives me chills. Love this vid.

  • reply to 24257180- the Spinners song is about the tragedy of the Ellan Vannin shipwreck in 1909,a completely different song.

  • No arguments there just pointing out that there are two songs with the same title so people don't get mixed up, both stand on there own merit

  • Is going to see Robin Gibb in 10 days and I am sooo excited.

He's got one the most amazing voices in the world.

    Snug, Denmark

  • The Ellan Vannin was a sailing ship that sank in the early part of the last century - see the spinners original version of this song

  • Not from Isle of Man but it is a beautiful place and a perfect national anthem(unofficial for all you wierdos)

  • they went to my primary school

  • Born in Douglas, lived in Kirk Michael, moved over to Liverpool, but going back "Home" tomorrow to see my nan. Best place in the world. Laa mie!

  • Robins voice is simply entrancing. Thank you for this beautiful song

  • couldnt have said it better myself

  • Great song from beegees.

  • woo Ramsey forever

  • Awesome song!

Great national anthem and superb performed by the Gibbs!!

  • It is not the Isle of Man's National Anthem. 'Oh Land of Our Birth' is the National Anthem of the Isle of Mam.

  • I love this tune - Robins voice is so touching!

  • leandrofador, ¿do you know where can i find an old demo of ellan vannin one which was sung by the three not only for robin and with the complete lyrics??????

  • Robins voice is so touching!

  • I'd love to tho their VIP concert like this..where we could ask them question..ah its just a dream now..Mo is gone

  • robin gibb is relaseing a cd next year with this song on it

  • Lovely song. Though the lyrics they sing are slightly different to what we learnt at school.

  • has to be the best natinal athman i have ever heard...its cool powerfull and just the right speed...if it was a normal song it would be Ace!!!

  • Scots and Welsh regiments fly their respective national flags on tanks and in parade grounds. That dosnt make them the Welsh army or the Scots army..So if you have a coastal ship flying the manx flag so does the cornish and welsh ,scots coast guard.Oh and we have east mids airlines and Britania in the mids so maybe we are independant as well!

  • telstar9, you really need to learn your facts! The Isle of Man is not in any way (culturally, linguistically or indeed politically) a part of the U.K.. We are not like other nations such as scotland, who are striving for independace, we have it!

  • The only ties we have are that Your Queen effectively owns us.Apart from that we have a seperate government (Tynwald (the oldest parliment in th world), a seperate language (Manx gailic) and a seperate ethnicity, and therefore, quite obviously, we are a seperate country! This is not in any way wishful thinking, it is just FACT!

  • Maybe you need to not see things through red tinted glasses. We are not as independant as you would like, neither are we culturally different from the UK and from what i last noticed the Manx language was more of a hobby of a few people than anything else. Politically we have the final say, but its rarely that different from what Westminster have already introduced. Grow up

  • I really don't think that is your place to tell me to 'grow up', I was only giving someone what i perceive as facts, and this is just rude. Many different areas of the UK and the whole of the british isles are very different culturally, and I believe that ours is, in many ways, unique. I'm sorry if you disagree, but this does not therefore mean that I am being immature!

  • How are we culturally different from the whole of the UK? How are we linguistically different from the UK (apart from a few people).

  • You have a British passport issued by the British goverment. (it may say isle of man somewhere inside it )When people from the isle of man join the forces they join either the Royal Navy or RAF or British Army.I`m English , your manx we are both British.Trying to stretch facts to make your point dosnt work i`m afriad

  • I am Manx and have lived in England for a number of years now. By the way my passport is Manx I got it from the Manx passport agency although it's also British and I am I am foremost Manx.

It's like asking a Scot if he is British or Scottish, they will say Scottish. Besides there isn't much Great in Britain left successive Labour governments ruined it, debt, recession, immigration, and the way British army wanted to treat the Gurka's !

  • Bagbag the comment you have posted says nothing!, your passport is identical to mine, i`m British but foremost i`m English. Do you think many people are happy at the way the country is now ?. Of course not but political correctness stops people from speaking up. BTW the Isle of Man wouldnt last 5 mins on its own, so you should wave the union flag more fervently than anyone of us Brits

  • Well as I said my passport is British but issued in the Isle Of Man which is why it says British Isles Of Man. We just had independancy for longer than Scotland and Wales. And sorry who's going to invade ??

Immigrants, Recession and a country ruined by the Labour party. There is nothing Great in Britain anymore, the World War veterans who gave their lives for Britain are probably turning in their graves, while we fund a war against terror because the Labour party were in bed with bush !

  • The Isle of Man passport is almost identical to any other British passport. Its differences are the same as for Gibraltor, Jersey etc basically cosmetic. I suppose you want to feel different in some way to other Brits and you look for any small way to do that but your differences are no greater than Cornwall or the outer Hebrides Shetland etc.

  • By the way do you see the Triskelion flying on your parade grounds ??

  • Neither do i see the Cornish flag flying either or the flags of the channel isles or indeed the Scilly Isles, whats your point?

  • Sorry a response to telestar9 maybe Cornwall should go for their independancy, as one of the 5 Celtic nations !

  • What are you talking about bagbag? you don`t have any idea do you ?

  • I think baghead would be a better name for you mate

  • Sorry these were responses to telstars questions. I know my stuff but people like that are clearly only fit for cannon fodder !

  • SO you have no responce then baghead? if you know your stuff then come back on my points!

  • Well they are technically british nationals because of their connection the the british crown, but they are a special type - they aren't EU citizens, they don't vote in UK elections, they don't pay tax to the UK, they have no legal obligations to the UK government, in fact they can live their entire lives without any connection or contact with the UK at any time. When you ask a manx person if they are british they will usually answer 'no', or 'sort of'.

Unless they are immigrants from the UK.

  • where to get Ellan Vannin on CD OR WHAT BEE GEES CD is it on ,it does not appear on One night only play list

  • Absolutely cla song, i'm so proud to be manx!

  • i have this as a mp3 if u want it n as a avi

  • i have this as a mp3

  • this is an exallent song

  • fantastic brings a tear to my eye every time

  • they went to my primary school - murrays road

  • i bet you wouldnt send me a couple, id pay for them

  • does the manx still do there wonderful kippers?

  • Yes we do.

  • would you send me a couple, of course id pay first?theyre the best

  • I dont think i could do that since i hate the bloody things and fish shops. I can however ask around and see if i can find anyone who you can buy them off, They'd probally need an address but i'll ask for that if i can find someone.

  • Did you ever get your kippers?

  • perfection

  • We should make this the national anthem of the whole of uk

  • Should we? Considering the Isle of Man is not part of the UK, You'd want to use a manx song singing about the Isle of Man. For the UK >_>

  • Yes wthy not just change a few words, the isle of man might not be Part of uk echnicaly but in spirit they are, Same passports same head of state same armed forces and same foriegn policy plus other stuff i`m sure. The bee gees class themselves as british as well.

  • We govern ourselves our parliment is older than the british one itself, The only thing we have in common with the British is our head of state although your goverment has no power here.

  • so you have an isle of man passport and an Army ,Navy and Airforce.?

  • I believe that Robin Gibb now lives back on the Isle of Man.

  • Robins voice is just pure magic! Very moving sound.

  • great voice Robin!

  • best ever thank you

  • I had the pleasure of hearing them ( as in Robin) sing this at their Western Springs concert in New Zealand. Love it and totally respect it as an anthem.

To those who criticise - stick it in your ear from 12000 Km away - it should clear your head for a day or two.

  • Really Lovely! Many Thanks, leandrofador . .

  • Ellan Vannin is the Manx Name for the Isle of Man. This song is based on a poem written by Eliza Craven Green in 1854. The words were later put to music (pre 1896).The Bee Gees recorded their version of this song in 1998 for the Manx Children in Need charity, which is NOT connected to the UK/BBC charity. The CD singles were originally limited to 1000copies and were sold off to listeners of Manx Radio who invited donations for the singles. It later came as part of a BeeGee Stamp set from IOM Post

  • Ellan Vannin is the Manx for Isle of Man - I do know that, being Manx. And the reason they make so many references to Ellan Vannin is quite simple - it's a song about the Isle of Man...

Sorry, but I think you'll find they DID release it for Children in Need in 1998. Like I said, it was only available on the Island. I can offer proof if you like...

  • Shamraig-get a life.

  • I'm sure this was released as a single for Children in Need... maybe it was only available on the Island, but they definitely released it. I've got it on my laptop anyway, if anyone would like it, send me a message - more than happy to share!

  • an Amazing song which is worthy of any official anthem. My only regret is not being able to share this. I therefor wish that the Bee Gees would release this as a single and present this to the Isle of Man Museum. The sales would be fantastic and would honour Robin at the same time.

  • I think the Bee Gees should move back to their native land, not meaning this offensively, because it would also be better for their finances. Did they at least start somewhat of a Manx Awareness there in Australia?

  • Lord Robin complementing this ancient song that touches everyone's heart and soul which quite naturally he does!!!!thanks leandrofador!!!!!! Excellent and Brilliant!!!!!!!

  • Ancient song!?!?

  • if you ask a manxman if they are briitish most if not all of them would not say sort of they would say there are manx and proud of it

  • That was almost an intelligible sentence, but not quite. Try again.

  • P.S. I recommend punctuation, I know it can be difficult for the mentally enfeebled, but it's worth the effort.

  • I am manx and proud. Born Douglas live in Onchan :)

  • A vel Gaelg ayd?

  • great song. been looking for years for this, ever since seeing it on tv (2)

  • great song. been looking for years for this, ever since seeing it on tv

  • Beautiful music and beautiful words are beautiful in any language and this version is clearly sung with great feeling and emotion. I've just watched the sun go down over the Isle of Mann from Whitehaven in Cumbria while listening to this song.

  • manx song but his voice is all shakey and he makes the i.o.m sound like retards are the start 'most people dont no they have a anthem'

  • Robin was referring to people not from I.O.M.

  • Just about the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

  • Beautiful song and words

  • Yindyssagh!

  • isle of man should be proud of this song

  • You sing it luv...

  • i like this song, gave me goosebumps! robin's voice fits it so well...

  • Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce it?
