California had a lot of rail systems serving their cities and it was a shame they were dismantled. Key System was one of the best but Pacific Electric was better with a bone thrown to Sacramento Northern.
Before the war many companys dumped their rail systems. They knew once the war started they'd have to run the old things. Then during the war, the equipment was reduced to scrap. And much of it was sold overseas, which helped other countries with their war effort! Kind of like us buying a trillion dollars a year in imported oil(because we got rid of rail systems) today helps alot of countries with their war effort!
