  • I love to hear this, especially the interlude where they don't sing. The announcer would come on and talk about bargains, bargains, and how you'd save yourself a lot of dollars, dollars, etc. When I was a very small child I thought it was "Royal Brian," the name of a king. I had no idea what it meant when the car drove in an s-curve then crossed it to make a dollar sign. I didn't know what a dollar sign was because I was two.

  • My dad, William Warfield, was a Roy O'Brien salesman for over 30 years.

  • Indeed. One of the catchiest jingles. ever.

  • When was this recorded, and how long did it run on TV?

  • I wish I had the original video to this: it showed a car driving in an S shape, then straight down to make a dollar sign! When I was a kid, I thought it was "Royal Brien" and he was some sort of king. I had no idea what they were selling. This played for years and years, from the time I was maybe 2 to age 7 or 8.

  • If ever a commercial jingle espoused good will for a company for more than 55 years, this is it. Loved it then, love it now!

  • I have been buying cars there since 2000,great jingle and great people too.Greg H is my sales person:)

  • I recall this jingle.................great !

  • Actually, I was once told by someone who says he was there that this was the Gaylords before they WERE the Gaylords.

  • @AudioTech50 - That is correct. It was the Gaylords before they became famous!

  • I grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods and Shores very close to the dealership and fondly remember this jingle all the way back to 1959. About two years ago I phoned them and they gave me the name of the Gaylords. I dropped the ball but will try again to get the arrangement. I could transcribe most of it but getting the vocal harmonies would be difficult for me.

  • My Grandpa wrote this jingle. James Mowbray.

  • I grew up hearing that on the radio and tv. Glad someone uploaded it.

  • The cartoonist who did much of the animation for the old Roy O'Brien commercial is Ken Muse.

Unfortunately, Ken is ill with cancer in the hospital right now. (He's my Dad)

  • Thanks for this post RIP

  • This is TOTALLY awesome! The best jingle ever- -- - - sung by the Gaylords! Can't wait to see that original commercial with the guy in the spaceship coming down to 9 mile and Mack! Oh and BTW, yes the jingle is great, but the service at Roy O'Brien is OUTSTANDING, and that is why they have been in business all of these years!

  • @dfszczepan: We found the old footage and we'll get it up as soon as we can! : )

  • @RoyOBrienFord 7 months and still no footage - don't drop the ball on your legacy

  • Hope you can get the full commercial!

  • I love it! I sang it all the time as a child : ) My Dad was a foreman at the Ford Rouge Plant and we kids loved to see Ford dealerships. We held our breath any time we passed a Chevy dealership (or any that wasn't a Ford). Fun memory.

  • Wish you had the animation, too.

  • @misterarthur: We are currently working on getting everything transfered to a digital format from the original tapes. Hopefully we'll have the original TV commercials up very soon!

  • @RoyOBrienFord how much longer will it be till we see the old animation that played on tv in the detroit area from the late 50s throughout the 60s and beyond ?

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 We haven't been able to find the original footage, and we've looked all over the dealership. Mr O'Brien may have taken it home sometime before he passed away. Hopefully Roy P. will come across it one day. I'll keep looking though!

  • Actually, we have been a Ford dealership for 64 years, and the jingle hasn't changed. If you're thinking of the cowboy and the dog cartoon commercial, that was Ray Whitfield Ford on Telegraph Rd. They are no longer in business.

  • Hey! Thanks for posting this great jingle! It does take me back, and I do remember the actual comercial with the martian in the spaceship coming down, and then getting on the train tracks to 9 mile & Mack. And as I said before, the jingle is great, but your service is OUTSTANDING! And that is why you have been in business for 64 years. And that is why I keep coming back to 9 mile & Mack. Best wishes for continued success!

  • Not the original as I remember it. There was a Roy O'Brien commercial with a similar jingle that had a crudely animated black & white cartoon. That was for Roy O'Brien Chevrolet, though. I guess he must have jumped ship sometime after my childhood.

  • Nice
