I never watched the 80's/90's version since I was way to young...but I can see that the classic Mickey wasn't as annoying. My favorite will always be Raphael and the 2003 version since that is what I grew up with. And personally even if I didn't I'd probably like the newer one because I generally like a darker feel to things but that's just me. Still yes Raphael is the badass! And always will be.
I DO like the Turtle Van more than the Battle Shell, for a lot of the reasons you stated, but the NEW Battle Shell is my favorite vehicle of all time. I have always loved big trucks, and seeing a hotrodded moving truck is just really cool. Also, unlike the Turtle Van, it's able to look interesting without drawing attention, as everyone expects moving trucks to have company logos. The name "Tortuga Bros" is neat, as is "Since 1984" nod to the comics.

I believe that the animators of the classic series got the idea for a grappling hook for Michelangelo was from the second Ninja Turtles film when Mikey fights some guys with a yo-yo. If the animators had to censor the weapons of Raphael and Leonardo, the weapons could have been tonfas and three-section staff. One good reason for the animators to replace Leo's swords and Raph's sais was to prevent kids from playing with knives, screwdrivers and other sharp and pointed objects.
In terms of animation, I prefer The Red Sky era and the first 4 seasons of the 2k3 series... Back to the Sewers animation reminds me of the 2007 film and the 2nd-7th seasons of the classic TMNT... Fast Forward looked TOO MUCH like the 2007 film

Something I find strange: in the classics the turtles called eachother by their full names. In the newer one, the turtles had nicknames (Leo, Raph, Raphy Boy, Don, Donny, Mikey) Its a little weird since the lighter hearted series used full names while the darker one had nicknames. Just something i noticed.
My favourite turtle as a kid is Raphael and still my favourite today. I prefer the 2K3 a lot more than the classic Raph, mostly on how they updated his character and give him character development.

@jo67445 I think it mainly had to do with people being able to tell them apart, plus it kind of became a staple/trademark tradition that would stay with ninja turtles for year to come. The 1st movie was based off the comics, yet they still used the masks from the cartoon. It's hard enough to tell the turtles apart sometimes, making different colored masks makes it easier XP

Peter Laird IS an asshole. He has no regard for the TMNT franchise. They were SO close to finally having a big enough fan-base to put out a live-action movie TRUE to the comic produced by the guys from 300. They were going to reproduce the first few issues of the comic books. Do you know how amazing that would have been? PL ruined it for everyone. We will never see a true-to-comic Turtle movie. The 80s cartoon gets the last laugh because of PL's asshole character.

I rarely ever laugh out loud when watching shows by myself, but I fucking cracked up the first time I watched that episode. I really did say, "Oh no, he didn't!" It's kind of a now used and generic comeback, but hearing it come from Raph was just priceless!

Not to blast you or anything; but you keep leaving out the most important aspect of the comparison: One was made as a comedic show and the other was made as an action show. What you are doing is like comparing "Sonic the Hedgehog show" to "Sonic Underground". It's kinda pointless in the way you're comparing them.
Also the 80's Turtles was truer to their comic book selves. The Turtles started out in Arche comics, then years later came the dark arch (after they left Arche) with Laird writing it.

Nunchucks was consider a illegal weapons in most countries including New York during the 80's and 90's which is why they replace Mikey's weapon with a grabbing hook.
the first 4 episodes from the classic cartoons was abit realistic and darker then the other seasons. Bebop and Rocksteady was actually gona rape April in the first episode.
okay, as much as I LOVE the 2003 Donatello, you have a point; the 80's version's inventions did seem a little more realistic in the fact they were made from actual junk. Although a few did seem a little high budgeted (like the wave generator and the interdimensional portal) Although I'm gonna have to argue that the 2003 Donatello did have alot more development in his character as the seasons progressed.
Sorry to say that, but I guess you can only compare the two Mikey´s, because there charing at least some personalities like the enjoying of making jokes and be the party dude. But as for the other three you can only say that they have the same role in the team, but that is all. Especially at Leo and Raph it is some kind of rape to compare them to those "characters" of the 80´s and 90´s.

Raphs my favorite turtle but I like the comic/movie and new series Raph the one from the animated 80s/90s cartoon was terrible. Raph was suppose to be the angry turtle with a chip on his shoulder. That is a far more interesting character the a lazy one liner from the orginal show imo.
Only one I didn't agree with is Mike. The reason for this is because in the old series that all he was, the comic center point. In the 4Kids series he does get character growth (before Fast Forward). It shows his other interests, and he really does come through for the group with his growth.
It's fun to have a goof ball Mike, and trust me I do love the original series Mike, he's always been my fav. Though I just felt besides for a few episodes 4Kids gave more respect.
I noticed 2k3 Mikey's character seemed to be an amalgram of both Classic Mikey and Classic Raph. He's a joker, wise guy, lazy, cowardly, fun loving, junk food scarfing cross dresser. I also noticed his lack of surfer slang, only acting like one rarely, probably because Laird didn't want that much cowabunga...
I had a question no one apparently asks... Where did the Surfer accent come from? They're no where near California and last I check, Mahattan had no beaches...
Sad thing is that well,Turtles Forever went almost as well as DNF. Yeah,that bad.

I can't believe you said all that stuff about the classic Raphael! I really like him & his funny jokes, I practically memorized all of them & recite some of them in my head from time to time. He was my favorite out of the 4 turtles. I guess different people have different opinions about their favorite turtle. I just like classic Raphael better because he was funny.

I rarely ever laugh out loud when watching shows by myself, but I fucking cracked up the first time I watched that episode. I really did say, "Oh no, he didn't!" It's kind of a now used and generic comeback, but hearing it come from Raph was just priceless!

Not to blast you or anything; but you keep leaving out the most important aspect of the comparison: One was made as a comedic show and the other was made as an action show. What you are doing is like comparing "Sonic the Hedgehog show" to "Sonic Underground". It's kinda pointless in the way you're comparing them.
Also the 80's Turtles was truer to their comic book selves. The Turtles started out in Arche comics, then years later came the dark arch (after they left Arche) with Laird writing it.

@BlueMageWithSoulEdge You got the comic book origin reversed. Eastman and Laird wrote the first comics of TMNT under Mirage. Archie comics cashed in on the show.

the first 4 episodes from the classic cartoons was abit realistic and darker then the other seasons. Bebop and Rocksteady was actually gona rape April in the first episode.

okay, as much as I LOVE the 2003 Donatello, you have a point; the 80's version's inventions did seem a little more realistic in the fact they were made from actual junk. Although a few did seem a little high budgeted (like the wave generator and the interdimensional portal) Although I'm gonna have to argue that the 2003 Donatello did have alot more development in his character as the seasons progressed.

Sorry to say that, but I guess you can only compare the two Mikey´s, because there charing at least some personalities like the enjoying of making jokes and be the party dude. But as for the other three you can only say that they have the same role in the team, but that is all. Especially at Leo and Raph it is some kind of rape to compare them to those "characters" of the 80´s and 90´s.
But of course, that just my opinion. ;)

Raphs my favorite turtle but I like the comic/movie and new series Raph the one from the animated 80s/90s cartoon was terrible. Raph was suppose to be the angry turtle with a chip on his shoulder. That is a far more interesting character the a lazy one liner from the orginal show imo.

Only one I didn't agree with is Mike. The reason for this is because in the old series that all he was, the comic center point. In the 4Kids series he does get character growth (before Fast Forward). It shows his other interests, and he really does come through for the group with his growth.
It's fun to have a goof ball Mike, and trust me I do love the original series Mike, he's always been my fav. Though I just felt besides for a few episodes 4Kids gave more respect.
