  • anyway way to get down into the drydock? can't climb down there or something?

  • @coldbrewbeer It's about 50 feet down! Each one of those 'steps' is about six feet high.

  • the titanic wasn't built in the dry dock. it was built in gantrys and then put in dry dock for maintenance and paint

  • I seen nomadic getting painted on saturday :D and Thomson dock

  • Dry?

  • Im guessing this dock is were the ship was fitted out. The titanis was built in solid earth

  • they said the iron that use to build the titanic is faulty..

  • @lukefernanalcorin The rivets were more faulty, they contained too much slag, hence they, popped like a zip, exposing the outer shell plates, to buckle and rip.Quick thinking & Its possible if the aft end was flooded the ship could have held an even keel thus the water would never have tripped over into each other at the foward compartments. Once the angle of decline became too steep, the leverage on the midship body was extensive and the vessel began to break up & her doom was sealed

  • man were could i get a picture of titanic at this doc

  • Was there last week myself its an amazing site , pictures and videos does not convey the sheer scale of this dock, one thing you didnt mention was the white star building in the background is actually built to the exact height that titanic sat outside the water.Truely breathtaking,

  • Wow that's a massive drydock.. I could only just see the mannequinn way down there. Gives a pretty good idea of how big the ship was

  • its hard to belive titanic the largest ship in its day once stood there thanks for shearing that

  • nice video G G amazing it still exisits, your country has fantastic history i respect that, and the memory of the titanic,,,thanks bp

  • i went there on wednesday (4/11/09) via a tour bus and we was told that for 2012 they building a life size replica of titanic as it will be 100 years since its sinking, just thought id let ya know, maybe something else for you to look forward to

  • I've certainly heard that mentioned, but I think that - although it was a plan once upon a time - it might well now be an urban myth. 'Pumphousecafe' is Colin Cobb, and there really are very few people who would know the plans better than he. He's in charge of the pumphouse on the left.

  • well i should kick yours. why did you not get in touch. I bloody run the place. And another thing just 20 feet from were you were filming is a plaque on the pump-house wall from 1889, dedicated to Prince Albert Victor who officially open the Alexandra dock on the other side of the pump-house. dedicated to his mother. The prince sailed into the dock on the teutonic in 1889 and opened the pump-house and dock. Yes ripper fame here. Next time ring me. 07904350339

  • of course jack the ripper hutchinson.

  • I'm glad you got that, for I was about to need to kick your Kray Twins arse!

  • Neither Titanic or Olympic were built in a dock. Like all ships of the time they were built on a flat concreate slipway covered with a gantry called the arrol gantrys.launched stern first into the sea. 62 seconds for Titanics Launch. Slipway still exists but the gantrys are gone in 1971. If you want to walk on the slips, see the drawing offices and access inside the Pump-house let me know. Im Colin Cobb Tour director for titanic walking tours and operate the Pump-House tours and Visitor Centre.

  • And I'm Philip Hutchinson who you happen to know!

  • enlighten me!!

  • Nice video Shame your Tour Guide didnt mention that Titanic wasnt built in the Dock. Thompson Dock is a graving dock. Too small for building. Cleaning, hull inspection and propellors fitted. Titanic was in the dock for 2 and a half weeks.

  • Ah, gutted. At least she was there at some point. To be honest, nearly all my tour was a political one. I just asked to come here as an extra, although this was the most important thing. Is the dock where she was built still extant? I thought it was odd, as I am familiar with pictures of the Olympic being built alongside and there was no sign of a second dry dock nearby.

  • Incredible! Thanks for Sharing, i did not know it still existed.
