@kagthetank I suppose you are right. Really, thank you. I was just trying to voice an opinion about this song. I will think about that next time, and about where I post it.
all i want to do when i'm older is travel, be free, and fall in love. so this is a little depressing, however, i know it's true and this song is beautiful and raw. it's just different names for the same thing.
I like this band so much and they from Washington state. There is no band in the pass or in the future will be like Beatles no matter how much they try :)
I think the song is about religion/the afterlife. Outdated map= Religious text. Different names (different religious views) for the same place (the afterlife). Boundaries of language can be related to the differing religions; all believing in life after life, just have different ideas on the specifics of it.
These lyrics always sounded vague to me, but I think DCFC is just really good at making all their songs mean something to everyone, no matter who it is.
@HallySaysHallo true. so many people have mentioned they think the song too simple; to me it can be so much deeper than what is first perceived by it. it's like dancing around coming out with how you feel, you can be friends with a person and yet your words towards them can have multiple meanings. there are a lot of different words and ways to express 'love.'
I've listened to this song about 10+ times today. It really makes me think. :] And I have to agree, it does have a little of that Beatles essence to it.
I love this band. Especially their ability to repeat a phrase a bunch of times and not have to lose any weight. I don't know how they do that but it's awesome
I don't know why or what I'm thinking of, but the beginning of this song with the solo piano and Ben's voice remind me so much of something John Lennon would have done. It's definitely something he would have loved. I think Ben is channeling a little John here. Has anyone ever read that Ben (or the rest) is inspired by The Beatles?
@gibsonesc89 This is not true... Maybe the intentions are there, but that does not mean that they will 'all' be represented or remembered in the same ways....The Beatles will always be remembered, as they were a new beginning of rock - they changed rock bands forever. But not all of the bands today are like that at all... They must have their own style, and that is exactly what DCFC is representing themselves for here. They love playing music. And their words are one of a kind...
@jjp009 Well obviously they must've been somewhat inspired by The Beatles - after all, the band-name "Death Cab For Cutie" comes from The Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" film!
@pretzelpimp Yes, you are 100% correct about the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band (to use the band's full name)...
However my point was that it's very likely that Ben Gibbard became aware of the aforementioned band's song DUE TO being a fan of the Beatles. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@jjp009 Well, the name Death Cab for Cutie came from The Beatles film The Magical Mystery Tour, so yeah, I'd guess they're influenced by The Beatles just a little. :)
@casith181 Sorry. My mistake - but the song WAS featured in Magical Mystery Tour, which is where the Beatles reference came in. I just got it confused.
@jjp009 Maybe it was just from reading your comment, and thinking abut your comment, but while singing along (at the beginning), I accidentaly sang some of "Yellow Submarine" to this tune, lol!
@Jimiller1eight7 Actually it was on the Beatles' television film Magical Mystery Tour performed and composed by Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. The song is on youtube.
