Profit in private insurance accounts for 2% of total spending on health care. It is disingenuous to blame "profit" for the high costs or to believe that the gov. will make any positive improvement by eliminating the "profit motive".

The system itself is what is forcing prices higher each year. We need to allow employees to take their health care benefits out as cash, tax free, and put them into a Medical Savings Account. That way THEY have the $ and hospitals have to be honest about price.

Why hasn't anyone addressed the relationship between hospitals and insurance companies. Insurance companies dictate what doctors are reimbursed based only on location. The worst dr makes the same as the best dr., but when it comes to hospitals, the ins co's pay whatever the hospitals charge. So a PCP will be paid $135 to deliver a child, while the hospital gets upward of $7500 for a room with an exam table. Why?

My mother was a Virginia state employee when she was diagnosed with Cancer. I was serving in Iraq when I heard they had fired her and dropped her healthcare coverage. I was on my way back to Iraq when she died and I still can't figure how they can sleep at night. She worked there for over 20 years and should have been allowed to retire, but that would have meant full medical. After she was fired cancer was a pre-existing condition and no one would cover it.

Our health care system is not private. This guy is blaming privatization for socializations symptoms. This is a misdiagnosis of what's wrong in our system. If any doctor could charge whatever they wanted, than you could go to one and pay 20 bucks. Government makes the docs have to charge what they charge. The "National Initiative for Democracy" is a two part process that calls for a constitutional amendment (Democracy Amendment) & a new federal law (Democracy Act). Both would have to emerge from the current corrupt legislative process and be passed into law by a corrupt congress. If enacted it would permit the People to make or change laws by initiative.
