If you are on an old dialup connection it depends on your ISP, if you have a broadband USB modem this is also the same, but usually it’s OK go. but the end of this video still the same, unblocking port 80 in the firewall then check to see if your port 80 has connected. You can run an online port scan from t1shopper on your public IP address to confirm. NOTE I assume this is on the computer with the direct connection.

@backbreaker95 the 2 wire router is not that dificalt to program, I have sent you a link that shows you how to port foward. when it comes to define port just make it 80. I still recomend you make the server have a static IP address, this can be found in the advanced section of the router, look for DHCP.

@stxyzth I can’t find how to setup a static IP for your router, but if you change your DHCP setting you can tell windows to give its self a manual IP address. This video is now very old and now I recommend you use port forwarding, this can be found in Advanced> Advanced> Port Forwarding.

@erikblazer13 The MAC address is the unique identifier for the Ethernet card. if you are struggling to find it then in the command line type ipconfig /all. Look for physical address, and then enter that code into your router static IP address list. If you are struggling with that consult your routers manual or search for your router online.

@erikblazer13 The URL will be created when you create one with DYN DNS. The reason for not having a step on the DYN DNS setup is because they will and have changed the way you setup an account, they have done this 3 times since this video appeared on youtube. Look in the Myhosts in your account to create the free sub domain.

@Check that you are port fowarding 80 to the computers local IP address or as shown in the video DMZ. you need to make sure that the IP is for the computer running the apache service and that it is on all the time.

@vaibzzz123 I don’t really understand what you mean. The hardware you need is the computer, laptop or desktop it does not matter. The same can be said for the OS it could be windows 98, as long as your software (in this case Apache) works on your OS. Then the computer must be connected to the network wired or wireless.

@pimpfimaik If you are refering to 2:50 that is part of the DynDNS settings. this is because the router will login to the account and update the DynDNS name when my public IP address changes. this is the same with the installer file from DynDNS if you do not put that domain in your domain wont be able to point people to your server. NOTE the domain must be set to what you created in your DynDNS account. if you used the installer you will have a checkbox.

@AlexRaGeAHoLiC this is a common problem I get. this is caused by the way the router detects its network traffic. if you are getting your router from a computer inside your local network, then your setup is working. the only thing to look at would be "Make Your DNS Name Work In Your Local Network " the only routers I have found that do not do this are netgear routers.

Hey. I have made my apache web server live but it loads slow and stops outside my lan. On my network, it works fine but when someone with other network connection visit my site it says that it timed out. What causes the problem?

The only thing I think is the problem is your broadband connection, ADSL is very good for download but very poor for uploads. When you are on your local network you will get a very high speed connection, but most ADSL lines are about 6511kbps download and 320kbps upload. So when some one is connecting to the server the numbers are reversed. That is why when people outside your network connect to it it will be very slow, and if a lot of people try to connect then it will time out.

I to had this problem so what I did was to host larger pictures and flash files on places like Google and link them into the page, though that was a few years back now. I might be possible to do so with yours.

if your router will not do multi DNS then you can download the DYNdns auto updater and thet will update more than one DNS name for you.

I do not understand the "same thing". if its to do with the public dynamic IP address, then that is why we use DynDNS, if its to do with the DMZ setting the you could use port forwarding, the port for apache is 80 then the rest is basicaly the same as DMZ.

Well yes... that happens... that is why we use DynDNS witch keeps the domain or sub domain pointing to the right IP address. if your router does not support the DynDNS update you can download a updater at their web site and install it on your server.

you can configure dynamic ip's in your router but you can also use DynDNS's dynamic updater client software; it's much easier to use than the dynamic update client in most routers and almost zero config.

And for those who don't have a router with a dynamic update client, they will have to use DynDNS's software.

wtf... when i went to my default gateway, it brought me to a verizon page cause my internet is verizon...anyway, it brings me to 192.168.1.1/edit_user_settings­.htm, which is to change your username and password. when i click to go to the main page, or anything else, like the actual settings on the router, it just refreshes the page...?!?

Making the server live to the internet is legal. But, the content of the server has to be taken into consideration, like illegal file sharing.

If your modem is connected to your computer via a USB or COM port then you can basically, if your server is connected to the USB modem skip the router section. Remember to unblock the port 80. DynDNS have a program for the IP update as well.

If you have not changed the password it will be the maker's default password. In the case of netgear they may be different from the username and password here. (it would be better to look at the manual for your particular model that came with it.) The default username is admin and the password is either password, admin, 12345 or 1234. If this does not work consult the netgear website.

It's just a server in the picture. in it is a Pentium 3 800mhz 256mb ram 2 hard drives 1 4gb & the other 320gb. The reason for it having a large hard disk is because it also holds backup images and large video files etc. Its just one of the many computers in the network as it is plugged into a small technical business.

if you mean typing in the DNS name when you are in the local network, no it won't work. but in some places the name of the server (the Windows name EG SERVER2) has been typed into a web browser and it has come up with the page. you can find out or change the of your computer by right clicking on my computer and clicking on the Computer name tab. to change the name just click the change button.

when you say its not working do you meen the DNS name inside your network. unfortunately the DNS name only works outside you local network. as long as your SB4100 supports port forwarding it should work wireless or not.
